This update could add many aspects to the game. It could introduce growth speeds for certain crops, how much sheep grow their wool, or when certain animals spawn due to "hibernation" times in winter. many things can be updated as well as introduced like in vegetation variation. not only would this make survival have a more varied experience but could also make creative builds more unique with vegetation designs.

An option to change how long the seasons are, from every in-game day, all the way to pair with irl

This would be fun to one day come out and find your house buried in snow

They should add fall or autumn as it's own biome it would be better and also they should add change sessions button to keep that biome permanently or change it.

Just a reminder for people who suggest tracking real-world seasons: July is a winter month in some parts of the world. In other parts of the world, it's the wet season or the dry season. How would you account for that?

This is why adding seasons to a world would require an option to be selected somewhere, either as a global option or when creating or editing a world. Some pre-configuration of seasons is inevitable, even with real-world seasons. The game won't necessarily know where you are (think global VPNs), or what your seasonal preferences are. You would need to tell it. That doesn't mean real-world seasons shouldn't be considered, but they need to be considered really carefully.

Having a range of configurable seasonal options has merit and should be considered.

    • Does the world have a warm climate or a cold climate?
    • Are the seasons extreme (continental) or moderate (maritime)?
    • Are real world seasons followed?

    If so:

    • What part of the real world?

    If not:

    • How long is a year? What time of the year does the game start?
    • Do seasons progress or is the game locked to a single season? If so, what season?
    • What is the latitude of the game world?
    • What is the axial tilt?

Personally, I wouldn't really like this feature. Seasons wouldn't make much sense in minecraft, I'd prefer getting themed biomes instead such as more snowy biomes; a biome with cherry blossom trees and so on. I'd like more biomes instead that represent a season.

yes this goes with another post I read that told to add apple trees. so if both of these would come to Minecraft then apples will be able to be farmed at spring? I don't know my country has a tropical climate.

This I believe this is an awful idea as it would ruin pretty much every farm in existence

I love this idea, although, because of all the different biomes, I feel the only necessary season would be fall (but only for biomes that are mostly neutral). Trees could change color and the grass could be covered in leaves which would add lots of vibrancy to the game. The sun could also become dimmer and once fall is over, brighter.

Maybe you combine more tress with food and the seasons.I think that would be a cool combination. Sorry for my bad English im from Germany.

Seasons should affect the player's play style to adapt and survive.  Seasons should transition like real life to get a realistic and game changing experience. If they transition quickly, it will get boring real quick and the player will just wait it out.

Also before creating a world, you should get the option to choose the season you want to start with

I think this is a good idea. The one issue I have with it is that if three moon cycles is one full season, that is eight hours. This wouldn't be too bad on a singleplayer world, but if someone on your realm/server decides to afk overnight, it will have advanced to the next season by morning. It might not be too bad, but it is something to keep in mind.

Yes, and it would be great if there was a logo for each station, also if they changed in a period of 120 minutes (not linked to those that already exist in the real world).

    Every so often in winter

there could be blizzards that would affect your sight give you slowness and a frostbite affect that turns your hearts white and slowly kills you. To stop this you could use goat hide to craft a full set of woolly armour/clothing to prevent the effects of a blizzard. However certain mobs would still spawn alot.

I'm behind this if there is a way to shut it off using a game rule command. Having control over the atmosphere of a build by just moving to another biome is something I love about minecraft. I'd be very dissapointed if it started snowing in my plains biome

This sounds like a great idea for those who want a bit more dynamic environment, however, I think it should be something that can only be enabled/disabled when creating a new world. I think seasons as a permanent feature could be a very divided subject between players so giving people an option would solve that.

    • Worlds created with seasons enabled could have access to a seasonal clock which goes through a full cycle every 48 Minecraft days (12 days for each season), or
    • You could select 'Northern Hemisphere' or 'Southern Hemisphere' and it follows the date and time settings on the host players computer (this function is already used for Christmas chests for example).

Love this idea, I think it just needs to be an additional optional feature rather than a permanent one.

This would make a great addition to the game. This could be added in the smaller update that they’re trying to start doing annually.

and environment (cold fog, dense clouds, and few animals in winter; heat distortion, lots of sun, etc. in summer; as they did in nether update).

Adding this feature would entice players to invest into bees. As bees stand in the game right now, players might get bees just because it is a new feature, but they can make do with crops without bees. The harsh winters could possibly make players want bees to sustain food through winter.

Fantastic idea (though cave update is better, Mojang stop ignoring people's suggestions already).

Perhaps if willow trees were added, in a specific season, willows start flying around (kind of like the particles in the basalt deltas and crimson/warped forests.

This is a great idea! To ensure the whole world isn’t one season (I can’t imagine the whole world with snow in the winter, maybe the seasons could be based on where you are in the world in “season chunks”. Each season chunk of the world should have different seasons, so the whole world isn’t just one season. An alternative would be for only specific biomes to experience seasons at different rates to make it more diverse.
