I personally agree with the idea of backpacks. Being able to have more space during mining adventures. And being able to get them before going to the end. I do feel like being able to dye them as well would be a nice personal touch to them.

I'd rather use shulker boxes, Minecraft has many layers on it to make it more naturally challenging, limited inventory space and storage management is one part of this... Otherwise we wouldn't need huge bulk storage contraptions, we would just make backpacks... shulker boxes are allowed because they are a late-game hard to mass produce item! And I really enjoy it! It's amazing! but a backpack would be useless, EXCEPT FOR A SHULKER BACKPACK! With a couple of string and it would take up your chestplate slot so you give up armour for inv space! Your inv UI would just be enlarged!

I love this idea, and make it so when you die, that you will keep the backpack that has all of your valuables that you don't wanna lose when you die.

The trade off more more storage could be no Chestplate or another debuff depending the amount of items

What people do not seem to understand about backpacks vs. shulker boxes is that backpacks would function more as extra inventory space rather then needing to place down an inventory to access it. Shulker boxes are useful for bulk item transfer such as through sending them into item streams, hoppers, and dispensers/droppers.

Specifically with backpacks they might be a separate tab in your inventory like other mods do, similar to the creative mode inventory.

I think backpacks are a great idea because its more inventory space. Also, they could be made with leather/wool, etc, this means they would be easier to get than shulker boxes, so in that case I totally agree with adding backpacks.

Mid-term item, crafted with leather, moderately expands inventory, could also introduce a new armor slow that could also be used for Elytras and banners while keeping a chestplate

I like this idea, as long as it doesn't get too op.

My thoughts are that they should be in the game, but have less inventory space than a shulker box so it doesn't replace it. entirely.

It’d be cool, but craft of this backpacks must be so hard (expensive)

A backpack should be added so when you inventory is full you can fill it up and put it on you chest plate spot

Shulker boxes are late game items, we need an early game inventory expansion

It could be have the same space than the barrels or maybe three spaces less. Cause i suppose that they don't put it because they think that the player have already a lot of space (which obviously is not true, but maybe they want to be a little realistic with this thing, i suppose).

Backpacks sound like a good way for early-game inventory expansion since shulker boxes are an end-game item. Of course, it must be balanced so it does not replace shulker boxes.
Backpacks (or satchels, pouches, block bags, etc.) should be a temporary solution for more space until the player can obtain shulker boxes.
It could work like CuteScroll45388 and SpecialisToL mentioned: it will expand the inventory by 9 slots and when unequipped items will go back into the inventory (or drop when inventory is full).
If the player’s body slot is used for the item, I think that would be a fine trade off between armor and inventory. If the inventory UI gets updated and adds extra equipment slots like in CuteScroll45388‘s picture, the new slot shouldn’t be exclusive for backpacks but be a slot for things like an Elytra OR a backpack. That way a player will decide whether they want to fly or have extra inventory space. The extra slot could also be used for future additions if necessary.
For crafting using a 3x3 grid, I thought that it would be a string on the top right and left corners, leather on the middle left, middle right, and bottom middle (a “v” shape), and a chest in the center. A possible addition to the crafting recipe is to add an iron bar or tripwire hook to the top middle to act as the “sealing” nature of the backpack and to add iron as a requirement of obtaining the item.

If you’re without a house, it’s very difficult to carry all the necessary items to kill the ender dragon. An option to have an extra row in the inventory would really help, not just with having the items you need, but also for builders who need to have many stacks of blocks, a scaffolding block, and all their tools and weapons.

i feel like backpacks would be a cool way of making it so that the player could have an extra line or two of inventory space by having the back pack either as a separate item or an enchantment sort of thing which can be applied to chest armour

I think backpacks add another layer to the game (for me, at least) as I feel more like an adventurer. So many new items have been added (and will) to the game as well...

Something that would be cool, but probably wouldn't happen:

-Decrease of starting inventory making getting leather and making yourself a backpack an important step.

Something that is less cool, but more likely to happen:

-A small leather backpack that increases your inventory space by another row.

While we do have shulker boxes, it would be nice to have a method to move lots of things earlier in the game, maybe just make it less "slots" so the shulker box still has a use. I know people who hate the end and will never go there, but they still want a way to move many items conveniently.

We need bagpacks because shulker box could be only obtained in the end of the game.

There should be slot for bagpack in inventory (like armour or shield slot). When bagpack equipped you have additional row for items in your inventory.

There must be different kinds of bagpacks adding different amount of additional slots.

Have the backpack be very limited. Have it be 9 slots (i'd recommend less) and sacrifice the chest slot. It would be there for early game, but you would have to remove it for elytra or armor. even steven.

It's not getting my vote because of shulker boxes, but if this were to be implemented this is my suggestion: It should be only available as a find in dungeons/mineshafts, as rare fishing treasure, and one of the trades of the leatherworker.  It can only be placed in the chest armor slot or in chests/shulker boxes when items are in it (if dropped while items are inside the player's chest slot must be empty to pick it up).    The backpack should only be able to provide 9 or less space for items.  Each item slot filled should reduce player speed by about %5.  In my mind this would make shulker boxes still relevant.  Especially in late game when you want to transport a lot of stuff for larger builds or adventures.

Here's how backpacks would be different from shulker boxes.
    Early Game Item
Worn insted of Chestplate w/ sole purpose of traveling/exploring
You can either put it on leave it on the ground like a block. Not possible to stack in the inventory. Can only have one on.
Considering options above backpacks could be really useful.

Maybe there could be different kinds of back packs with different uses. For example a crafting table book bag which just lets you use a 3x3 table in your inventory. Or one where you can 5 extra slots but only for food. Or 3 extra slots but only tools

Backpacks are an easy way for extra storage in your inventory. If you want extra space you'll have to get a donkey, find a saddle ,and makea chest. Then if you want a lot of space you'd have to get a shulker box and they are reallly hard to get.
