This is a great idea! I was thinking about asking for them also! I’m always going on trips and never having enough space to continue my trip so I have to go back home! Backpacks would be life savers!!!!

The backpack should be limited to tools only, so picks and swords and bows, things like that, times that you can’t stack. And if it was only 9 slots then it would be a small amount of room. At this point, I’m not end ready, but I have a crossbow, sword, 2 tridents, bow, pick, axe, a shovel, a clock and compass on me at all times, that’s 10 items, and it would be great if they could be put somewhere out of my carry space but easy to access

I think a backpack is a great idea for early game when you are still looking for horses or donkeys.  It should not replace shulker boxes for late game.  My recommendation is 9 leather to craft, and you have to equip it in your offhand to carry it,  it can’t be placed in the other inventory slots for example. it would only give 9 extra inventory slots (an extra row) when equipped and you can’t carry more than one at a time.  The items in it stay in it, when it is placed in a chest or dropped.  So you can use it like a small shulker for early game when portable organization is needed for adventuring but it doesn’t interfere with already existing game mechanics in later game and it doesn’t become OP.

I agree with shulker boxes being like backpack BUT you have to kill the ender dragon or tp so backpacks would be easier to get so i would say yes to backpack

We already have backpacks in the form of shulker boxes. I really don't think we need another thing which does the same thing but worse. No vote from me, sorry.

It might be useful to have a Tool Belt instead of a backpack. This way you can store 3 or 4 (non stackable items) like weapons and tools, e.g. your pickaxe, sword, bow and shovel and have more slots available for building blocks without defeating the purpose of the mass-storage of shulker-boxes. Might also look very nice!

since we already have shulker boxes, backpacks would need to be weaker or fill another spot. Hence it should be something that has to be worn in the chestplate slot and give an extra row in your inventory. However, the things wouldnt be stored in the backpack when remove, extra items would just be dropped from the inventory when removed.

Maybe when your inventory is full and you're wearing your backpack, you can pick up more stuff and it puts that stuff in the backpacks inventory automatically without the player going into the backpacks inventory manually! Oh my gord!

I think it could work, you would need leather and a chest and you could open it by putting it in your off-hand and pressing E. It could hold an extra 9 slots with a max 16 stack

Shulker Boxes are great but they are a pain to get backpacks would be nice even if they just added another 1-2 rows.

Honestly I don't understand how your character can know how to make a sword from iron with technically no blacksmith but not know how to make a backpack even if its a small one.

I want backpacks because firstly, I think Shulker boxes aren’t a thing we should consider when talking about backpacks, Shulker Boxes are end-game stuff, and don’t have a real use after beating the game, Backpacks could be an item that you can get to expand your storage.

How could you implement it? It could be an early game item crafted with leather and one iron or gold ingot that can be easily obtainable, it could have a 3x6 slot capacity, that means it would be less than a normal chest, and half of normal inventory, it could be dye-able so you can customize it a bit, and it could have its proper slot in the inventory, so you can’t carry backpacks inside backpacks, or 2 backpacks because they could not be placed inside normal inventory but only inside chests, it could be seen on the player's back as a cosmetic item.

And why I want it? Minecraft its a game about exploring however you are sometimes limited from the amount of items that you can carry, that’s what I think we need a not so over powered way of carrying items.

We all know that the Schuller boxes give you more space, but the backpack could be equipped replacing the chestplate and could have like 9 extra spaces (enough for tolls etc) and could slow you a little bit the full like 1,2 times slower

I like the idea of backpacks since they would be much easier to obtain than shulker boxes for early and mid-game players. However, there is one important feature that I think the game needs to support this and that would be the separation of the "body" item slot (e.g. Diamond Chestplate) vs. the "back" slot (e.g. Elytra). Players really should be able to wear both items simultaneously. This would also open up potential for backpacks and other back slot items ideas players might have.

Here were two ideas I had for the backpacks:

    1. Backpack - The traditional backpack that adds 9 additional slots to your inventory and is worn in this new "back" item slot mentioned above. Crafted with, say, 8 leather and a Chest in the middle. Expands the player's inventory early game, but doesn't feel overpowered. More items = more risk upon death.
    2. Crafting Backpack - A unique spin on the backpack that does not offer any additional storage space for the player, but instead expands the player's crafting grid to 3x3 as long as they're wearing it! Crafted with 8 leather and a Crafting Table. Offers a unique trade-off compared with the regular backpack.

Maybe you could have a backpack and it would be a cheap shulker box w/ 30 or 31 (depending on how many pockets they want to add to the backpack) to have an early game cheap shulker box, but you can only put it where a chest plate can go. This would give the item some risk and reward features. :) Hope you agree...

In my opinion, if backpacks were added to the game, they should not be craftable, such as saddles, they could be obtained as a rare loot within dungeons, from fishing, or as a leatherworker trade.
They would add 3 extra slots to the player's inventory and could be expanded in a crafting table when surrounded with leather, for each expansion 3 slots would be added and the maximum capacity of the backpack would be 9.
The slots are only acessable when the backpack is on the player's chest slot.
Shulker boxes could be placed within backpacks for the item to be useful even during the lategame.
You can fastly change backpacks from your chest by right-clicking another from your hotbar.
Backpacks would be dyable such as leather armor.
And lastly if filled with ammonition for ranged weapons, whenever you shoot, the items in your backpack are choosen first, bringing back a little of the quiver's functionality.

What if you equip it in the chest armour slot and it adds an extra row of space to your inventory or something.

I think this is a great idea! Maybe have different tiers of backpack that hold more or less items. Also, backpacks should probably be able to be accessed from your inventory or maybe even add a few slots onto your hot bar. You’ve got my support! Maybe, you could sorround the backpack in string and make a quiver out of it, however, when doing so it only holds arrows and nothing more.

Could be good. Could be made from leather/wool, more beginner friendly than shulkers and could be unable to wear a chest plate (and probably elytra) for balance and already existing logic

I actually support this. There are many people claiming the shulker box already has this purpose, which is true, but shulker boxes are FAR too expensive and hard to obtain, only obtainable AFTER killing the ender dragon...go figure. I would think it would be nice to craft a backpack similar to crafting leather pants, but upside down, and they could be used by placing on the ground and would be broken by hand quickly. They could have a single chest's inventory.

I don't understand everyone saying that backpacks would replace shulker boxes. The two are nothing alike. Shulker boxes need to be placed an picked up, and you can carry a lot of them. With backpacks, you get to wear one at a time, with easy access to it without setting it down. Plus, casual survival players, like me, who don't have much interest in the end or big fights, have no access to shulker boxes. I just want to build my little house and farm in the overworld, and I want a storage add-on to go exploring. Also, since when did we care about having only one type of something? Pandas can give slime, but slimes give us slime too! I think backpacks would be perfect for anyone who plays on peaceful mode, where shulkers aren't even in their game. I vote for backpacks!

Backpacks made from leather should be possible in survival to have extra space. If this makes the game too easy then it should be a cheat option
