maybe backpacks like wearable backapcks? you can put them on by shifting and breaking the backpack and they take up a armor slot (you can turn it off in config to were you can have a chestplate and a backpack but the packpack wouldent give any armor) you would also be able to place it down pick it up with all the items still in it or have it like a grave stone for wen you die all your items go in it unless its full then it just scatters everywear how much the backpack takes up could be be 18 slots smaller then the inventory but still have quite a bit of space and would be cool if you can place it down for camping since there is the campfire

    I don't see a need for backpacks

How about wearing Shulker Boxes on your back, and a button above the crafting book or something to access it?

Great idea! I've always wanted something like this in Minecraft BE.

@MacchuPicchu96 I agree, Shulker Boxes are very hard to get, though. I would like something easy to obtain/craft that you can dye (Oh I just remembered you can dye Shulker Boxes. XD).

I guess you could use shulker boxes in a crafting recipe with leather, (and maybe a bit of iron or string) to create an inventory extension.

Rather than how shulker boxes are a virtual portable secondary inventory where you have to place down to use, this backpack could be similar to the elytra, as the elytra takes up the chestplate slot, and the backpack can also do this, your inventory when opened with "e" will probably be the size of a large chest or just smaller. I personally don't mind sacrificing a chestplate slot for elytra, so why not add another thing that can use that slot for?

After all the likely hood of having both armour and elytra on at the same time is A LOT LOWER now that the 10th Anniversary Teaser image has been confirmed as a mistake.

The GUI for accessing the backpack doesn't even have to be an enlargement of the original inventory space, it could have tabs like in creative mode or pocket edition.

I made a quick Concept Image to show what I mean:

"B"- Represents the backpack, as I have no idea what it will eventually look like if one were to be made.

I think after the shulker box is crafted into a backpack, it should substitute its status as a block into an item, which can no longer be placed on the ground, but, you can put it on an armour stand.

    Lol has anyone ever used images on a thread before? I'm afraid I might stand out too much (^^;

EDIT: Reading a lot more comments, I've thought of very similar things to what other people have, I want to be clear, no I don't want all credit to go to me, after all, this is a community ;) although I don't mind allowing my image to be the base of eveyone's ideas put together.

Just throwing this out there, but I would like to see 2 backpacks.

    1) Leather Backpack that adds a fourth row of 9 inventory slots, but it can only contain stackable items.
    - Crafted from earlier game resources like leather, chests, string, etc. Not sure on the exact recipe.

    2) Shulker Backpack that adds 27 inventory slots that can contain anything except shulker boxes.
    - Crafted via combining a backpack and a shulker box.

Here's a potential idea to implement backpacks without making Shulker boxes useless.

1: Only have as as much space as a chest placed on a Donkey

2: You can't put backpacks inside backpacks

3: You can only store items in it if it's on your chest plate slot in your inventory. If you take it off, all the items fall out.

Personally i think the back pack is a great idea, it would be an early game way to extend your storage and could also could add some unique style to every player if you wear them, change the colors of your bags or maybe if they implemented different shaped bags with different storage levels based on the items used to craft the bag. These shouldn't allow bag inside bag interaction, nor should they reach the same power level as something such as the Shulker boxes but for those times where you have to travel a long ways away in the early/mid point of the game where you may not have access to Shulker boxes yet is where i believe backpacks would really shine.

Also a separate slot on your player for backpacks similar to the shield slot would be nice if they were implemented and were wearable so you could sport Elytra's with your bag.

Maybe the backpack could only be held in the inventory In the offhand making the offhand the trade off for the backpack?

@MindBlown101, if Mojang added backpacks they would have 5-9 spaces and go in the chest plate/offhand slot and NOT be upgradable. Many mods have a storage solution for how much they have. Minecraft needs an early-game storage solution, because we have added lots of early-game things.

I love the idea, limit the amount of storage, like has been suggested it adds 9 slots to your inventory, you wear them in your chest slot. so you can only wear one. they would be useless end game because you would trade up to shulker boxes and elytra on the chest slot. but for someone who is still collecting raw resources in the over world a few extra storage slots for cobble, coal, an extra pickaxe, the look out of the mineshaft they just cleared, or iron would be amazing!

    2 things

    1. I think a specific slot should be added to the inventory for a backpack, or you could equip it in place of a chestplate

    2. If you combined a shulker box and a backpack, it could increase the size of the backpack.

Maybe it adds a bit of inventory space

maybe like crazy craft where it just has like 6 -9 more hotbar slots except it's implemented with backpacks

(I'd like the first one better)

There should definitely be more than one tiers. 5 should be a safe number.

You should have a special spot in your inventory for backpacks so that they can go over top of armour. It would let you carry more without taking up inventory space

I think if backpack is added to the game, it will kill shulker boxes(because nobody will prefer to use it instead of shulker box). But this idea is not bad at all. I would like if shulker boxes have more advanteges compare to backpacks that will not make players leave it, and backpacks will get disadvantages that will make players consider to upgrade(to chest, shulker box, etc.)

So what I would like to happen if backpacks were added to the game is

    • It won't gonna replace shulker box.
    • It must be easier to obtain/craft.

That's all what i thought about this idea, I'm not a big fan of backpacks addition idea, but i think it would be nice if we have more easier ways to transport items or just to expand our inventory.

yes would like to see some kind of backpacks.

i dont want to have to always go to end world to get shulker boxes.

i like adventuring around the world.

finding mineshafts and jungles and ect.

going to end world isnt one of my main adjectives.

i like playing surival and building at same time. getting to shulker boxes takes away from

    adventure time.

I say this is a great idea but it probably just be like the shulker boxes put probably not able to place it could hv less room and easier crafting...

Shulker boxes are like backpacks but way harder to get so a backpack you can upgrade and get it bigger would be amazing

How about chest helmets? Just a piece of armour that adds a few slots to your inventory.

@yifo123, you would just be wasting a large storage on a smaller one.

Perhaps as a balance, Backpacks could have less inventory space than Shulker boxes, making Shulker Boxes more of an 'Upgrade' that you can only get after defeating the final boss. So maybe Backpacks could have similar space that llama chests have, and it also enables you to wear it.
