Backpacks in minecraft
Because minecraft is making more and more blocks and variants, inventories are getting extremely quickly full. Therefore I suggest a backpack that you can make before defeating the ender dragon.
I would suggest that you need to equip it on your chest plate slot so that you can’t fly and have a big backpack on at the same time. It may encourage people to use minecarts and horses more often. It would keep people from flying constantly.
The backpack would only expand your inventory when equipped and when unequipped it can’t carry anyting, it would drop the items on the ground. This would make chulkerboxes still a valued storage container.
I suggest only making one variant of the backpack so that it keeps the vanilla feel, maybe give it colors similar to dying leather armor. I would craft it using a chest, a crafting table and some leather and string. A 3x3 crafting table would make the backpack that smidge more interesting.
It would be a great opportunity to make this a feature in the mountain update. As it would invite you to make hikes in the mountains with your new adventure backpack.
Backpacks should definitely be added. I always need extra storage space when going on a long expedition when I don’t want the hassle of a donkey/ mule. Also backpacks could explain Steve’s ability to carry so much with only his hands. Maybe you could start a game with just a hot bar and the inventory with no storage space until you have crafted (using leather and possibly string) a small backpack; then for extra storage maybe a large backpack could be crafted with possible iron or wool to craft as well as leather. Chest plates should be able to fit over a small backpack but not a large one, also a large backpack should not be fitted at the same time as elytra. Or maybe the backpack could go over the chest plate. Sorry for the long comment but please consider it! Backpacks would be so nice!
I keep seeing mention of shulker boxes but I am nowhere near that level for one of those. A backpack would be so wonderful to have when adventuring - I feel like weapons, food and some basic supplies alone takes up half of your inventory and I love the donkeys with a chest on their back but sometimes in caves it is just not practical!
Great idea man!
should just add 9 slots to the inventory though.
I think a backpack would be cool, and I think a way to make it reasonable is to make it go in the chest plate slot, and have it be crafted with leather or something like that. And I would say it only adds 9 slots, any more than that would be too much, and any less would be weird. It being in the chest plate slot makes it realistic, because you can’t have elytra or chestplate on while wearing it, which is a good way to make it balanced
The only weird thing about having a backpack in the game is that Enderchests already exist.
They already said no.
If we do backpacks.... we should be able to dye them. Also, it can be made out of shulker boxes (or chest) with leather/string (crafting receipt), and add extra inventory space when equipped.
I think its a great idea! If you craft it with a shulker box you get more inventory space than crafted with a chest
I feel the player’s inventory has 2 much space and backpacks could have 10 slots in a 2 by 5 formation 2 replace the player’s inventory
What if you made them out of leather?
I could see backpacks adding on to your inventory space, so if your inventory is full items will be picked up automatically and stored in your backpack. Kind of like the void vault from terraria.
I don't agree with this because we have them already like an ender chest.
A craftable item. You put leather all around the crafting table, and then you get a backpack! The backpack goes into a backpack slot, it gives you more inventory slots, and if you take it off, all the items remain in that backpack.
A backpack would be a great addition. Something you have to construct for example leather and string. Equip it by placing it in you off hand and have it take normal damage like other items or have a step limit before it breaks. This way it is useful for long Journeys early in the game.
Backs will help miners carry ores or help farmers or any mind of Minecraft user should use a backpack. That’s why we need one. I feel like there’s a reason for Mojang to not include backpacks but that time is over WE NEED BACKPACKS !!
I feel that we can put them down and not just keep them in my inventory and I feel that there should be 20 slots and I feel that we should be able to craft them and not just find them in dungeons.
I think we should have backpacks my inventory get so full and then I have to throw something out and I can’t because I need everything in my inventory.
What if they made the inventory space a row or 2 smaller and added a backpack slot that doesn't interfere with your armor? A backpack or an arrow quiver could go there to store arrows without taking up inventory space or something, and it would take longer to draw an arrow from an inventory than if it was in your quiver. And in order to access the backpack, you have to place it on the ground or something. And if you carry a lot in the backpack, maybe you get a little bit slower? Or your hunger decreases a little faster when running and jumping. I think this would make how you store items in your inventory a bit more immersive.
This could make room for new enchantment. Like an enchantment that adds more space. Or an enchantment that makes it lighter. And along with the quiver idea, it might be cool to see upgrading a backpack to attach a quiver to the side of it. So that you could wear both. But doing that could increase your carrying weight or decrease the number of arrows you can carry than you could if it were just the quiver alone. I don't know, there has to be a penalty because a backpack + a quiver at the same time sounds too OP.
The backpack slot could lead to other inventory slots like weapon/tool holsters that can only be bought from villagers. These slots would leave room for other things that could go in your inventory and some kind of benefit other than seeing the tool on you.
Just some ideas that I think would add more depth than Shulker boxes could.
Good ideas but we should be able to dye backpacks as well as add them in the game
Maybe you could craft a backpack and craft it with your chestplate so if you put your chestplate on you can have access to you backpack and piglins won’t get mad also it could be a chest in the mid surrounded by leather to craft.Last to separate them just put it in the table with nothing else.
And to the people who say enter chest and shucker boxes exist well yes but shulker boxes is after the dragon and ended chest you need to have a diomond pick at the least or find it in structures
Many people are saying that shulker boxes are backpacks, the thing is, you need to beat the game and then fight in end cities to get one. I think there should be an item made of leather (or something like that) that you would be able to make earlier in the game. It should have quite a bit less storage than a shulker box, or there would be no point in crafting one.
So since the deves added Striders and not lava boats, I don't think they will add backpacks.
Shulker Chests already have a functionality similar to a backpack, except you have to place it to access its inventory.
If Minecraft were to add backpacks, they could be accessed by right clicking while holding it, but only limited at nine slots of storage. It would be a good early game solution for expanding inventory but shulker chests may still be a better investment in the endgame.
Shulker boxes are already backpacks
Perhaps backpacks should take up the chest armor slot like elytras, that would be fairly balanced and has precedent. Assuming it goes over the armor instead then whether it is unbalanced or OP as some claim depends simply on how much additional inventory space is offered.
I would like to have backpacks in Minecraft so you don't have to put a chest down
When your invintory is full so you can grab another block
I think backpacks should be easy crafting of some amount of leather and maybe string and adds 3 to 6 spaces of inventory right next to the regular inventory on the right, though it’s a trade off because it takes up the chest slot so you can’t use elytra or chest plate, and if you remove it from the chest slot, all the items drop so you can’t just keep it in the inventory. Also you could craft with extra leather up to two pockets for 2 extra slots, or you could make it just the without pockets. Picture added, sry for sloppyness
