the player is gaining new spaces on the right side of his character on the inventory screen, they could take advantage and give the player a backpack to expand the capacity that the player can carry
1-basic backpack 9 slots (not craftable) obtained through exchanges with vilage leather lv max
2-advanced backpack 18 slots obtained through many exchanges with pinglins
3-end backpack 27 slots (made with a shuker box using the advanced backpack
giving more utility to the leather village, making the pinglis farm consistent because the 2 is used in the 3.

in my mind it would be ideal

I 100% agree. However I think as we already have shulkers, the backpack should be somewhat limited in extra storage. Say 5 extra slots of storage. I see many people disagree due to the existence of shulkers, but I think the backpack would serve the same purpose as wooden tools do to diamond tools. Shulkers are the "diamond tools" of chests, and the backpack would be the "starter-chest" as wooden tools are, as well as I think the backpacks design should give the two somewhat different purposes. Shulkers need to be placed before they can be opened, I think the backpack should always be "open" and accessible using your inventory. I also think the extra storage slots supplied by the backpack should be added to you hotbar. Normally you have 9 slots, so say the backpack add 3-5 extra slots to your hotbar?

I was hoping that backpacks could be added and the way that it works would be that You can put it in the chest plate section

Backpacks could work like early-mid game storage expansion, here's my idea of how they would work:

They would be craftable using 6 leather and 2 string in a chestpiece pattern, with string at the top. They would be equippable in the chest slot and would give 1 extra row of inventory space (9 slots). If the backpack is removed, all the items that were in that row would spill onto the ground.

The thing a lot of people here don't seem to realize is that shulker boxes are end-game items, and are really hard to get. This would offer some early-mid game inventory expansion without being too overpowered.

MacchuPicchu888 lAmNumbr7 a simple solution would be to Make the Shulker Boxes inventories Accesible without having to place them down it would be the best of both worlds and would be more convenient

Backpacks should only hold 9 items but it can hold shulkerboxes it can be pleased on your back and you can put it in your off hand. And your able to use the arrows from the backpack. Idk im just spit balling here it would be nice though.

I think 5 item slots should suffice for backpacks and shulker boxes can not be put in them and vice versa.

There is a mod where backpacks can hold water and lava and have an included crafting table and pull out sleeping bags make it with those specks and that would be great!

You can have backpack have like 6 or 8 more slots but not like a normal chest or shulker boxes and try to maybe make it a bit rare too

I don't think backpacks are needed because your inventory is basically a backpack while your hotbar is your pockets

The main critisism here is that shulker boxes will become less prominent because I assume backpacks would be cheaper. Maybe instead of backpacks havung an interface, it could add some slots to your inventory when it's in your inventory or maybe even in place of your chestplate. And when you take it out of the inventory the slot are removed and items in those slots are thrown into the ground. That way its good early game and will not make shulker boxes useless

The reason I want to see backpacks added in Minecraft is simple. More storage. I absolutely love to go exploring around my Minecraft world very far away from my home, and I’ve noticed that my inventory fills up very quickly, so sometimes I have to give stuff up, to bring back other stuff, and I don’t like doing that, so I’m really hoping backpacks could be added so that we can carry more things. I was thinking of maybe leather surrounding a chest with an iron ingot on top for the latch, or maybe just leather surrounding an empty space with a gold or iron ingot for the latch. I’m sure lots of people have suggested this and I think it would be a really nice addition, it would definitely make exploring and gathering materials or stuff a little easier, but overall this is just my opinion and I love to see anything added to Minecraft from a new mod or a whole game update, thank you for considering ☺️

Simply put: Minecraft needs an inventory update. Thier system needs some adding too. One of those things is a Back slot for things you wear on your back. This could be used for Elytra and the Backpacks. In an attempt not to make Shulker Boxes irrelevant, Backpacks should increase your inventory by 2 columns at the left. They should also have durability that suffers when you take damage. This opens the opportunity for unqiue Backpack enchants like increasing storage size and functioning like Shulker Boxes. The two enchantments will not be compatible.

I think this is great idea for early game storage, but should be designed in a way that shulker boxes will inevitably replace it.

If the backpack took up the chest slot like others suggested, it would be competing with the elytra for that spot, but not in the early game since you can't get the elytra in the early game. Once you get the elytra, you will most likely also be acquiring shulker boxes, so you replace the backpack with the elytra and the storage the backpack provided with the extra storage from the shulker boxes!

I think in order for this to work though, the backpack should not act like a shulker box where everything stays in it even if you remove it from your inventory. Instead, it should directly expand the player's inventory by 9 slots. If you remove the backpack the 9 slots disappear and everything in them goes into your inventory or gets dropped.

This is good in modpacks due to the sheer amount of items people must carry. However this should stay as a mod feature for the following reasons:

    1. Vanilla does not require the same amount of items (especially non-stackable) as some mods require.
    2. This will make shulker boxes redundant, which is a great feature of the game and makes it so you have to work for more inventory.

You make a good point, however I counter:

Vanilla does not have as much items as mods, but still a ton of items; especially as they continually update the game. Rice will not come into the game alone.

You can still balance Elytra with a Backpack WITH S. Boxes. Not everyone makes it to the end game, but a small progression (that can be spoiled with consequence in Minecraft vs. Animal Crossing) of inventory expansion earlier is something that has been vocalized by fans for a while now; which is why the backpack is under review.

I still do not think the backpack should go on the chest. I came up with an Expansion pitch (Munchies & Mobilities) to setup an accessory system, revamp food entirely with a makeover & rational application of desired options, as well as combat; timed hits, blocks & Hooks (with the grapple.) Leap of Faith they go for it. Been working myself into madness & misery to sell the idea of Minecraft doing an expansion to people (mainly through Rick and Morty's fanbase & news sites.)

I think to not make shulker boxes useless, it should be kind of expensive and you should only be able to have one in your inventory, it should be placed on the chestplate slot, in the shield slot, or in a new slot made just for it

In perspective to shulker boxes, Backpacks could provide extra hotbars (maybe on the sides of the screen), like a dedicated food slot, water bucket slot, rocket slot, providing direct access to the enderchest (potentially a variant of the backpack like an ender-backpack that you can craft with backpacks surrounded by obsidian), and an overall sidebar that gives direct access to daily essentials irrespective of where the items are in the inventory. This sub-idea is because hotbars have become limiting and difficult to manage in light of the massive recent additions to Minecraft, and I think it's time the hotbar system catches up. Using backpacks to make the hotbars more convenient can be a way to go.

Backpacks is something a lot of people want in the game, especially with a cave update. However, they should not be over powered and come at a small cost.

    1. Backpacks cannot be craftable - They should be treated similarly to saddles; either found in loot chests, fished up, or traded with villagers (leather workers specifically).

    2. They would only have 9 slots of inventory - This makes it nice for just that bit of extra storage in the early game for say mining, but not be enough to replace everyone's desire of shulker boxes making shulker boxes still an end game reward.

    3. Chest plates would not be wearable while wearing a backpack -  Having a backpack should have a cost if a player wants one. That cost being, you cannot wear a chest plate if you have a backpack on. This gives the player a choice, extra armor for protection? Or extra storage to hold more stuff?

    4. Can they be placed in your inventory if they have items in them? - No, because this would make them essentially tiny shulker boxes and would technically replace the purpose of shulker boxes as moveable storage. If you want to take the items out of the backpack, you have to remove them yourself. This also means you can only have one backpack on you at a time.

I think backpacks could offer maybe 2 or so more rows into your inventory. So like 18 more spaces and it would be different. From the shulker box. Because it could be early game. Maybe only requiring leather an iron. But the catch is. You would have to wear it where your chest plate is. Similar to the elytra. So you would have to choose between. Safety, mobility, and storage. (Chestplate, elytra, and backpack) and I think backpacks should just act as regular inventory storage. So you could but shulkers in them. Making it a lot easier to transfer a lot of stuff from one place to the other.

I really like the idea of a backpack being placed in the chest-plate slot. They definitely shouldn't be able to transport as much stuff as a shulker box. Maybe it would add an extra nine slots to the player inventory. This is would be great for builders because there are so many blocks, stairs, slabs, etc., in the game to detail builds with and the player inventory can't hold all of them.
