To ensure that they’re not the same as shulker boxes, the heavier the backpack (more items), the slower you walk. This makes sure that you don’t want to wear the backpack 24/7, otherwise it would be just an permanent increase of your inventory size. I also think that it shouldn’t have as much itemslots as a chest, maybe 9 would be enough.

Backpacks are a great idea for anyone whether they are exploring, building, mining and more.

Are shulker boxes not good enough for you?

People seem to think that shulker boxes are backpacks. No they are not. They are glorified chests that can be broken with a piston and keep all their items inside. What we really want is an item that does not need to be placed down or removed from the inventory in order to access and manipulate the items stored inside. One other thing to note is that a backpack item would probably only be able to stow 9 slots worth of items. In addition to that, a backpack is a worn item. Can you wear a shulker box? No!

I agree your idea, despite of having many items inside the inventory, it must have a Backpack that doesn't need to place as a block.

The issue with shulker boxes is that you have to be at the end, equipped with all the best items in the game. Backpacks would be a nice addition for players that aren't at the stage of fighting the ender dragon.

Since shulker boxes exist, this would be hard to implement properly. What I think you should be able to do is when you craft a backpack, it adds another row of inventory slots when it’s equipped, which go away when you take it off while the items stay inside. You can only carry one at a time. This way, you can’t carry multiple like shulker boxes, and you don’t get as much added capacity, but they’d be unique in that they can be used without placing them down, and they’re wearable. There would have to be a separate armor slot for them. Another idea for implementing this is crafting a shulker box INTO a backpack, so you can access it without placing it down and still get the other benefits.

That would take the usage of shulker boxes

I think this could work, but it would need to be set up in a way that doesn't make Shulker Boxes worthless.

Maybe have it so they can only store like, 1 row of items?

Also, I think if they're going to be wearable, They need to be accessible from the inventory screen, and need to come at the cost of a chestplate.

    Yes! This is great.

    Players could add to their personal inventory space by crafting a Backpack using;

    • Leather
    • Sticks
    • String

This could increase capacity by a row or two of the player's inventory. Contents could stay locked in like in a shulker box, so that you may remove it and equip another backpack. Could be considered a

The Backpack could have its own new slot or take up the off-hand slot or even the chest-plate slot like the Elytra. (sacrificing armor for storage)

As a player who doesn't like to rush to the End Dimension and instead just want to peacefully build and gather in the Overworld, a backpack would prove to be wonderous. It's very tedious having to make chests everywhere I want to build something, then transferring build materials to the location.

Meanwhile, players that rush the End, get to carry 27+ INVENTORIES worth of shulker boxes in their SINGLE inventory. The backpack will be universally fair allowing these players to further carry items if they choose to do so.

A backpack would help so much with the early game & could benefit late-game players by being able to carry MORE shulker boxes. It would be useful for migrating/relocating.

Shouldn't you be able to put a shulker box in a backpack? Kind of double space then, and that would be cool.

There should be backpacks to loot in Spawner Chests, Temples etc.

May be 4 versions with different space

I would like to see backpacks in game because shuker boxes are something you have to place and open but if they have backpacks if they add a mechanic that allows You to open in your inventory And use it that would be wonderful. You have my support

I don't get it. If backpacks are supposed to be an early-game item, then Mojang might as well say "Here, we are going to expand the inventory by another row" because you're going to have that extra space the backpack provides more-or-less from day one. I agree that shulker boxes don't count towards the discussion because they are so late game, and before you get to that point you will often find yourself running out of inventory space. So preferably we want an inventory extension somewhere in the middle of the game progression, because you're stuck with the same amount inventory slots until you get your hands on shulkers...

But wait, we already have a mid-game item that you can use to extend your inventory, the ender chest! I takes a bit of effort to obtain but then can provide you enough space to tide you over until you get shulkers. I can't see lack of inventory space to be a pressing enough issue to warrant the creation of basically an early game ender chest minus the teleporting items.

I love is idea! The shulker boxes are like backpacks but to get one is hard! And we need to put the shulker box in a place to grab items, good idea the backpacks!

Any sort of backpack would be great. We already have shulker boxes, but by the time you get them, you''ve probably almost done everything. Perhaps if it were a smaller inventory space than a chest and if it couldn't be put into chests or ender chests

netherite backpack can keep two items in and replaces chest plate and keeps items safe if killed by lava(like a mini wearable, lava proof shulker box)

I'm thinking that they will cost 1iron nugget 2 string and 5 leather.

They will at level 1have 3 extra slots. Level two has 5. Level Three has 8 with level four having 12 and finally, level five has 18 slots. To level up first you surround it in iron nuggets

Second , gold nuggets, Third 4 gold ingot and 4 obsidian, fourth two diamonds, and finally 2 netherite ingot.

To use you will either place in chest slot, offhand or a new slot for elytra or backpacks.

I agree with what he proposes and those who will put to replace the shulker box do not see it as a replacement if not as a form of early space or when you go to mine you can fill the inventory of stone, granite, gravel and backpack It would be very useful for those types of cases

I think it should just be crafted with leather and string, both early game items. Is equipped like a chest plate and gives half the armor points as a leather chest plate. Adds an extra 9 slots in the players inventory. That is all.

Instead of being smilier to shulkerbox, maybe the backpack would be an item that takes the chestplate slot, and gives you 9 more inventory slots?
That way, you have to sacrifice armor/elytra - what makes shulkerboxes still useful and make the backpack look more adventure style (and it's a BACKpack)
