I think that backpacks have a lot of potential. I know we have already shulker boxes, but they are late game, and backpacks that would be smaller (have less inventory space) but easier to craft could add a little touch to the game. And, backpacks should be accessable directly from the inventory without the need of placing it down. Maybe backpacks should be put on the chest plate slot, so you can only have one and they wouldn't be too op for early game. And finally, I would like if you could dye them, so that they have an individual look.

Shucker boxes are sort of hard to get because they are in the end, so maybe some way to get the earlier in the game!

I'm thinking backpacks could be and extra 5 inventory spaces at the cost of your chest plate. this would be a great addition to mining and a bit of a challenge at the cost of holding more items.

I read thru a few comments and a lot of them mention shulker boxes im not sure what those are but i personally love the idea of backpacks

I think backpacks would be a great addition to minecraft java and bedrock. It could allow early game additional space, it could maybe add just 9-18 additional storage space. It could also be crafted from 6 wool (top row and bottom row) a chest (centre) and two leather (one to the left and right of the centre). This would be a great way to transport extra blocks and tools around and would also help transporting building materials for big builds that require lots of different blocks. It would be really helpful for those in early game situations when they're not prepared for the end side of the game.So overall i will really strongly support this idea and hope the developers notice this and add this item to the game in a later update.

Shulker Boxes do the Job of a backpack, but an earlygame backpack with maybe 9slots is easy to get and not too OP

LISTEN. Shulker boxes will still have a use. they are portable storage, yes? and they are late game, yes? we need a easier way to transport things, while not being uncreative or rendering something also useless. So, they would offer 9-18 slots of storage, so a smaller amount of storage, AND are early game! they could be worn as a chestplate. you could have several, but can only use one since you have to wear it to have access to it. its not OP. its not difficult to get. its simply a early game portable storage. so, stop saying it replaces or renders shulker boxes useless. it is a simpler, more affordable, BUT LIMITED, portable storage.

Maybe introduce an extra slot called back or something along those lines for equipping backpack and later on elytra. This would allow you to have a chest plate on while having a backpack or elytra because once you have elytras you also have shulker boxes so the backpack isn't needed anymore.

I propose  that backpacks can only be hold in your chestplate slot, this ,I think will make them balanced.

One of the main issues of Minecraft at the moment is that so many new items are constantly being added, but inventory space isn't compensating that influx. It's actually changed the flow of the game to where inventory management has become a much bigger part of the game than it used to, which is frustrating because it interrupts exploration, building, combat, and all other parts of Minecraft to open up a menu and sort items. Shulker boxes, as many have pointed out, are a solution, but it's too late game for something that affects gameplay very early on. Backpacks would be a great idea if they add a boost to one's inventory size, but can't be placed down and have less inventory space than shulker boxes. I also feel that they would need to be placed in the off-hand to work, so you would only be able to use one at a time, and it would be a trade-off of whether you want extra inventory space, defense (shield), or torches.

I think backpack, if added, should:

-only give few slots (like 9),and not 27

-be only accesible when worn on chestplate/elytra slot

    This would make them

-useful, because they wouldn't require the player to stop

-early-game, because late game players with shulker boxes would choose elytra instead

-not too overpowered, because wearing them would sacrifice some armor and they would only allow for slightly higher number of items carried

Also pouches, sword sheaths and quivers, like to carry the sword you need a sheath, you could make the game harder this way.

Shulker boxes are great but a hard to get. We don´t need backpacks, we need some way to get shulker boxes in early-mid game rather than post game

I see a lot of people really want backpacks, but I do not agree with this change for one basic reason: The shulker boxes would have no use. The ONLY way backpacks could be acceptable is if they were a lot smaller, like only 3 slots. We don't want to unbalance minecraft. Shulker boxes have to be hard to get and make, so we can have a more challenging game!

I think there should be backpacks because I just keep getting my inventory filled up every time I want to explore. I think the crafting should be something like a bed so you can sleep, a crafting table for crafting, any type of chestplate so you can equip it if you dont add a slot to equip it, a chest for space to place items, a bucket for liquid storage optional, and a dimond just so its not super easy to craft. Also it should placable so you could use the bed. Hopefully you see this because i need more inventory space.

Shulker box are hard to get at the beginning of the game So we need leather to create those and wear them in the torso armor shulker box are hard to find because you have to beat a dragon , theres a similar one it called ender chest the ender chest is expensive and need silk touch to move

I for one wanted "Backpack" and "pockets" to be ENCHANTMENTS for Chestplate and Leggings respectively.

    • Backpack
      Possible Levels: I, II, III
Level I: 3 extra inventory spaces in a separate grid to the right of the main inventory.
Level II: 6 extra inventory spaces in a separate grid to the right of the main inventory.
Level III: 9 extra inventory spaces in a separate grid to the right of the main inventory.
The completed grid would be a 3x3 square, each level adding 1 column.
    • Pockets:
      Possible Levels: I, II
Level I: 2 extra inventory spaces in a separate grid to the right of the hotbar
Level II: 4 extra inventory spaces in a separate grid to the right of the hotbar
The completed grid would be 2x2 square, each level adding 1 column

If you had items in your backpack/pockets storage spaces and you take the armor off/the armor breaks, I would presume that the items drop.

Minecraft has vast worlds to explore. Simple backpacks made from 4 leather an iron ingot and a chest would help us explorers in beginning stages of play.

This addition would be great since new updates are bringing us more items and we need a new way to organize or inventory. Also a cool addition to add a purpose to all the items we carry and a new stylish look at our skins! Amazing suggestion and it's about time. :)

I actually really like this enchantment idea. Although I think just 2 additional hotbar slots would be sufficient.

Lack of more inventory slots has bugged me for years. They keep adding new items but no better way to manage them.

Shulker boxes and ender chests are clunky alternatives that you constantly have to put in and out of your inventory to access. Donkeys and llamas are slow and bulky.

I imagine backpacks as a quality of life improvement for advanced players so they don't have to waste time managing inventory. For me it's about having to click a few less menial buttons hundreds of time in a play session to access your items.

Backpacks should of course be harder to get than shulker boxes since they would be an upgrade to them. Each should have at least 27 slots and there should be a limit to how many you can have at once. Perhaps a special chest enchant would allow attaching a shulker box to a chestpiece so you can access it alongside your inventory.

If Backpacks were to be implemented, I feel like they should be a early-mid game Item, that has less storage than a shulker box, but doesnt have to be placed down to be accessed.

Small Backpacks would maybe have up to 5 slots and could be upgraded to Medium Backpacks which would have 7 Slots, and those would be able to be upgraded to a big Backpack with 9 Slots.

The Materials needed would probably be some Leather, Wool, aswell as Iron Nuggets, each upgrade not neccesarily needing more than the original crafting price, but just adding up on it.
