Should be different types of back packs that look good, can be different colours, shapes, sizes, like a chicken back pack. More like a modded one

if a backpack was to be added, it would have to be an early game item. Maybe made from leather & string. To balance it, it should have to be equipped in the place of a chest plate but offer very little to no armor. I think many people wouldn't use it though.

I don't think this is good. I keep seeing this idea popping up in different forms, however I don't think it would work well. All it would solve would make shulker boxes available earlier on, which would be too OP in my opinion.

I think back packs are a good idea since we usually run out of space

And u could use 8 leather in a circle and any type of chest in the middle including an ender chest then put another ender chest at home so that every time you die the inventory in your backpack will be in the ender chest at home

Honestly making a backpack with just like 8 or 9 pieces of leather in a U or “Box” configuration that adds 9 item slots would be perfectly fine. And make a dedicated spot for it next to the left hand box. You can still equip armor with it and it adds no protection. Also, another version of the backpack would be an ender backpack that connects to another ender backpack. The crafting recipe would be the same, but with a ender chest being in the middle and would have the same 9 slots of space. And you can put anything in the backpack.

As many have said, shulker boxes fulfill the purpose of backpacks. As its true, it does take a long time to achieve shulker boxes.

How about increasing the amount of slots in shulker boxes and adding backpacks to minecraft? While backpacks adds 10 or 20 extra slots.

UNA mochila seria un gran acierto y no tan dificil de conseguir como una shulker box ya que podria ser crafteado con cuero y cuerda o lana y un cofre. Pero estas cosas serian super utiles

One thing I have noticed although I've never seen this said by the devs, is that they have repeatedly avoided adding a backpack. I've seen them add the ender chest, the shulker box, and the bundle, but there appears to be some sort of reasoning, probably just balancing purposes, that they haven't added a direct inventory expander.

What about the idea of having a backpack replace your chestplate similarly to an Elytra would & it possibly adds more slots in your inventory? Just an idea.

In the crafting table, put a chest in the middle, and surround it with leather, except for directly above the backpack.

The best way, in my opinion, to implement backpacks would be to change the pre-existing inventory system, so you would start with simply your Hotbar and crafting a backpack (with leather in the shape of a chest, surrounding a chest) would unlock the remainder of your inventory, which is the same size as a chest, which makes sense and would act as an early-game addition. Perhaps upgrades could be implemented in order to increase the standard inventory size, up to a double chest in size. There will be disagreements, but it makes more sense than the current inventory system and, with upgrades, would improve it.

The backpack could work like a shulker box but in the place of a chestplate. The sacrifice of some armor points for more storage would be one I am willing to make.

What about a 12ish slot backpack but for bundles, just to carry a bit extra while adventuring but not defeating the purpose of shulker boxes

I think that we should have backpacks, the problem with shulkers that you have to place them down, but the problem that I am having is that I do not have space in my inventory for things I need to keep on me, like blocks, food, a bed, tools, water, crafting tables, etc but if I pick no items up my inventory gets full to fast, but I need to keep these essential items on me, so I suggest a backpack with 10 - 20 slots that you click on inside of you inventory to open.

As some people mentioned, Shulker boxes are more of an end game item. A way to make backpacks only accessible from one slot, perhaps a new slot similar to the shield slot. And to deter players from carrying too many, which could make it OP, maybe give an effect of slowness or mining fatigue depending on how many bags you have and how many items are in each bag, 3 full bags (storage 1/3 of a chest) being the max before getting the effect. Being made of leather, a durability could also be added based on how many times you put items in or take them out.

I think that backpacks could help address the issue of a rapidly expanding block count compared to the default inventory space. Maybe it could work like an equip-able chestplate slot item that expands your immediately accessible inventory by 2 - 3 rows?
I think that Shulker Boxes and Bundles are nice attempts at solving this storage issue, but both have the issue of not having immediately accessible contents. For a Shulker Box, you need to place it down before accessing its inventory. As for the bundle, you need to eject all of its contents before being able to retrieve a specific item. Both are slow and clunky solutions to the growing inventory storage issue.

I don't think we really need backpacks, since we already have ender chests and shulker boxes. However, I do think we need an easier way to access them. Maybe there should be another armor slot to put e-chests on our backs. Then we could access them by pressing shift+e, eliminating the need to place them down, open, get stuff, then mine the e-chest with a silk touch pick. I think this is an easy way to solve the problem of more inventory space without having to add a new item.

But shulker boxes take up room in the inventory. So what if backpacks had a slot in the armor area and when put in it, it appeared on your back. And you could place it down to put stuff in.

Backpacks could be made with 4 leather surrounding a chest, similar to the smoker. When in the inventory, an item can be dragged from the inventory to the backpack. The backpack acts like a portable chest, and could be put into the off-hand. (This is a mix of a 1.17 bag and a shulker box). Since backpacks are made out of leather, they can be dyed. Those are my ideas for backpacks.

a lot of people are disagreeing with the idea because they are saying it will defeat the whole purpose of shulker boxes, BUT to get shulker boxes you have to go to the end. shulker boxes are very useful and in my opinion a cooler looking chest; but for exploring you need lots of inventory space for food, tools, and cool finds. a backpack would make so much space and it would be very easy to craft very early in the game.

The inventory kind of already is the backpack.
