There should be mountains that are encased in other biomes. These mountains would be a sub-biomes of both the biome that it is encased in, and the overall mountain biome.

Mountains are far too rare; I think making extreme hills and mountains spawn half-and-half would be a good idea. Don't worry about putting mountains in the center of extreme hills as that would make traversal annoying and limits the variety in the landscape around the mountains. Just have them spawn separately (as they are now) and increase the spawn rate of mountains considerably. I believe I heard somewhere that the height limit for mountains is ~256. If this is for performance then that's fine, but if it's to allow room for building, then experiment with giving them more height. Perhaps up to 300 or 280. This cuts the building space on the tallest mountains, but not every mountain (presumably) will spawn at the max height and I think this would make mountains even better while giving variety via mountains varying in height (~200 - ~300).
It's tough to identify the biomes without a proper locate command and thus making recommending biome ideas and tweaks extremely difficult as well due to not knowing if the recommendation is already in the game. Having this command added in an upcoming beta would be a great tool for users who want to give feedback in the coming months as tweaks are added to the mountain biomes.

That said, having a "floating islands" biome would be a really cool addition to this update. They don't have to have a flat surface or anything, they can just be large chunks of floating rock of various shapes. Giving iron increased spawn rates here (higher than current mountains) presents some mining strategy as well as lore/world-building implications.

Back to the current mountains: the powdered snow should be able to spawn up to 2 or 3 blocks deep. One block makes it easier to traverse, but given that it can be avoided with leather boots defeats the purpose of having powdered snow one block deep. They're already easy enough to traverse if resources are expended a little. Also having areas that can snow (snow biomes and near the height limit) should give freezing damage, but much slower/less than powdered snow. As it is now, leather boots allows you to avoid both slowness and freezing damage since the respective effects only happen when you're inside powdered snow. Leather chest piece is useless for avoiding damage. Either have cold biomes give freezing damage or have powdered snow give freezing damage if you're standing on top of it with boots (without the slowness). This prevents the workaround for the mechanics from being consolidated into one item which makes it too easy.

The new mountains are off to a great start! They're not too difficult to navigate but offer great views and interesting terrain. But there are a few things that could be tweaked/improved to really make them shine.

First off, grass slopes look a bit barren with the lack of grass or plants or anything to add texture. This is a problem with other biomes in Bedrock too, namely plains and savanna, where double tall grass is more common than normal tall grass which results in very flat looking environments. Increasing the spawn rate of tall grass would definitely help break up the monotony of some mountain slopes.

Second, with the new world height, existing mountain biomes should be raised to be equivalent of their java counterparts. Extreme hills, savanna m, etc. Currently on Bedrock, they're cut off at y=128 (cloud height) which looks a bit odd next to the new mountains.

Last thing, there's an odd little graphical glitch where top snow and snowy grass render with mismatched lighting: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-57022. Maybe caused by similar circumstances as slabs, stairs, walls, etc. being lit inconsistently with their full block counterparts (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-54410). It's such a small visual blemish but it makes a big difference when exploring the new snowy mountains.

Those are some bits of feedback I thought of while playing the beta. The new features are great so far, and this update is shaping up to be one of Minecraft's greatest! Keep it up, Mojang :)

    1. There should be ice caves under the new mountain.

    1. The new mountains are high and extreme enough, so other strange terrain should be reduced accordingly, such as Shattered Savanna and extreme mountains, and replaced by new mountains and smoother terrain.

    1. New mountains should be formed in the form of a long mountain range, not a pile.

    1. Need a unique structure on the mountain to enrich it.

    2. Maybe using mountain edge biome to connect mountain and other biomes is a good idea.

P.S. By the way, the desert terrain should be smoother, rather than full of hills as it is now.

Man these look really cool. the only issue i have is the rarity in finding any of the new biomes. it took an hour to find one. but the flower mountain and the snowy tall ones are really cool. the powdered snow and goats and glowsquid are cool too even though its not the one i voted for I'm still happy with it. I still don't like the new iron ore but the others are good. There are also a whole bunch of floating lands or errors with generation but its still so cool

The ravines are really intrusive and distort the landscape too much. The mountains also intrude upon existing water bodies like rivers and oceans, causing them to look unnatural. A more gradual build-up would also look nice. Otherwise, looks great!

The new mountains look fantastic, but I think if they are replacing extreme hills biomes, we should have another place to get giant, classic-style overhangs and mountains like they used to be for. Perhaps expanding the hills variants to the sizes extreme hills biomes spawn at to compensate.

It feels like the mountains don't transition that well from some terrain. The stick out like a sore thumb. Maybe the extreme hills biome could be repurposed to surround the new mountains, and give the mountains a more gradual increase in height.

Fanstic mountains, however I would make the following change:

    • make them a little bit more common
    • add a rare variant called extreme peaks which can peak out at 300 blocks and is a rare variant

Seeing the top of a high mountain from a plain or a deep hole in the ground is pretty insane so I suggest to add a new state into the game which is in 4 tiers: crystal, very foggy, quite foggy and foggy days.

They would have no impact on gameplay below Y 128 but work this way:

if the day is in one of the 3 foggy tiers you cannot see structures higher up than 128 no matter the render distance, so you see the base of the mountain but need to climb to its top:

    • if the day is foggy after passing Y 128 at an example height of 200 you can only see 45 blocks up and 45 blocks down your Y position (so 245 and 155)
    • if the day is quite foggy at the same example height you can see only 35 blocks up and 35 down
    • if the day is very foggy you can only see 25 blocks up and 25 blocks down
    • in crystal clear days you can see up and down as of now limited by your render distance only

At around 128 this would work a little bit differently:

    • if the day is in a foggy tier after going from 128 to 129 you do not instantly loose sight of dowards ground:you will loose sight of the Y areas below 128 gradually and the complete lost of contact will happen at Y 153 (128 plus 25) no matter the fog day tier. The upwards sight level just above 128 will slowly transition to the correct level of sight depending on the fog tier instead

the new mountain are huge but they are not wide enough like the biome is not wide in length i mean the biome should be 25-30 chunks long so the of mountain will be more epic! But they are insane!❤😍

I really like them, but I had to fly around like 30 minutes to find one. They're so rare. I get it that they are huge and need lots of CPU power and disk space, but still they need to be a little more common.

    Thank you!

Also I would like to see more layers of powder snow in the mountains, because I like mountains to be more challenging.

A lot of people have probably said this but I think the hills and existing mountains should be a bit more smoother and polished (similar to the place holder mountains Henrik showed). They are also a bit too rare. But they look absolutely epic!

For the new mountains, they are wonderful :D they look so amazing and I cant wait to see what else you guys update! Hopefully, you can add some kind of frozen cave biome that can be found inside them through powdered snow or something.

If I had to complain, I think that these are obviously far too rare. It takes us way too long to find them.

Also I don't really agree with the old mountains. Obviously, we should have lower mountains instead of the huge ones, but they don't even look like mountains at all, they are basically just ordinary hills that have been amplified in height and are extremely unappealing compared to these huge, impressive mountains that FEEL like mountains and make me want to explore. Unfortunately, I don't think the old and new mountains go together well at all. These old mountains are far too old compared to the new ones. I think the best thing is to remaster all mountains (which may be a stretch) and put them at a lower height.

But you guys outdid yourself and these look outstanding and I really hope you take my advice ;) Thank you

I love the new mountains so far!

    I suggest:

    • completely eliminate the old extreme hills and make the new mountains more common;
    • a smoother transition between snow and grass blocks;
    • patches of powder snow deep more than 1 block (at least 3 blocks);
    • mountains should extend for more chunks.

-I believe that the old mountains should be altered to look like downscaled versions of the new mountains and the new ones need to appear more frequently. I’d suggest them to appear at a rate similiar to jungle biomes
    - if it’s possible it’d be great if the ice rivers caused indents in the mountains to mirror how glaciers erode mountains
-another thing I’d like to see is rivers to cause wide valleys potentially depending on how wide the river itself is. I think this would help improve visually the larger new mountain biomes since they start to feel messy because the peaks are too frequent and valleys would help to calm the picture.
-I’d like to see biomes like hilly taiga be altered to go slightly higher

I loved the new mountains, I don't even have words to describe my happiness, but I wanted the mountains to have a challenge (a crowd for example), which had to do with ice, cold ... That would undoubtedly make the mountains 100% complete

Ice caves with icicles are a highly requested idea, it'd fit well with the higher snowier peaks! Also, a generated structure of huge pretty waterfalls will work well for mountains, maybe with something hidden behind the waterfall.

Other than that, do make the mountains a bit taller, closer to the world height limit.

    Everything looks great!
The only thing that I would change is transition between snow and grass to make it more smoother with random patches of snow scrambled around

It would be cool if you extend the mountain generation to maximum (320) because to be honest it's so wide (make sense if caves comes) and the height looks so flat like 40°(if you're on the foot of the mountain) or something. It's what I saw from my experience.
The height of the mountains may or may not be extend but it's probably going to be because of the ore distribution up to 280.. well maybe.

Watching a youtube video on the new mountains, the actual snowy mountains were almost in a circle which made the biome look like a cone rather than a traditional mountain range. I think this can be fixed by adding more snow to the branches that stick out from them to make it a line rather than a blob.

    AVALANCHES.

Hi Mojang, you should definitely consider an avalanche feature for the new mountains. There could be a 25% chance if the player uses the goat horn in a mountain. This would be SO cool.

The mountains are magnificent, but I think we need more layers of clouds...

Just 1 layer of cloud makes the game very strange with these new height updates, maybe more widely spaced clouds fit together very well :)

I think you need to give players a reason to climb these mountains. I think there you can place some kind of destroyed house in which there will be a chest(s) with some loot like in destroyed ships. I think climbing for no reason makes mountains less interesting.

factyuan I like the new mountains, but the old mountains should never be reduced because It would ruin the charm of the old generation.
