I think the new mountains are too rare. I spent about 20 minutes flying around in a creative world and found one measly hill at spawn, one semi-decent mountain and finally a decent mountain range. In that time I saw a dozen Extreme Hills biomes (which probably shouldn't be called Extreme anymore) which were lacking a mountain imo. I think mountains should generate more frequently in the middle of Extreme Hills biomes.

Flying around I noticed the old generation mountains were way more common than these tremendous new ones. I don't mind much having the old ones in the game still but new mountains need to be way more common and old need to be less. I also think the mountain meadows and groves need to be wider, this can create a nicer transition to the cliffs and more room to build a base.

The cloud level seems too low and should be raised to accommodate the new mountains.

I would love to see archaeological sites near the peaks of mountains with different and unique loot to underground archaeological sites, to encourage exploration in the mountains. These sites will basically be abandoned buildings covered in powder snow, as if an avalanche hit them. You can also brush powder snow for items like mutton and rabbit hides, freshly preserved in the cold.

After watching a Beta showcase on Youtube, I believe that the new Mountain biomes are extremely rare compared to the old Extreme Hills (old Mountains). I like how Extreme Hills still generate, but I think that players should be a little more likely to find the new Mountain biomes. It might be down to performance though, so it's not urgent. Thank you for all of your hard work :)

The new mountains are absolutely perfect and gorgeous, but in my opinion they are too rare and old mountains are still way more common. I think either old extreme hills should at least receive a visual upgrade to fit better the new ones (because, u know, they are as ugly as always), or they should be removed and replaced with smaller versions of the new mountain biomes, thus solving the problem of their rarity without overloading the world with huge mountain ranges.

Oh my gosh, they're huge! They're beyond inspiring, you've really outdone yourselves. So far, climbing a mountain was a lot of fun! With there being piles of powder snow and a few skeletons at night, it really felt like I was some kind of hiker or explorer warring against the elements.

I think mountains should be a little more common though, and maybe tweak the old Extreme Hills biome, too, to be a little greener or more interesting?

I also need to point out, we absolutely need a new way to gather lots of Gravel now that Gravelly Mountains are out of the picture. I'd say Villager trading would be a good way to fill the gap; maybe you could buy Gravel from Armorers and Sand from Fishermen.

With the new mountains, I don't see a reason why we couldn't also have some unique features in their caves, too! I'd love to see patches of Blue Ice and snow generating next to cave air.

Strays should definitely spawn instead of Skeletons in the snowy biomes, too, and maybe Foxes should spawn in the Forests & Meadows.

The new mountains are incredibly beautiful, but they have several drawbacks.

    1. First, they are incredibly rare, maybe random, but I've seen some people search for them for 10-15 minutes.

    2. Secondly, the old mountains are not as exciting as the new ones, I would even say, outdated. Perhaps it is worth making them less often or somehow updating, or this can be corrected by the frequency of new mountains appearing (that is, making new mountains more frequent).Old mountains are not as popular as old caves or diamonds.

    3. Sorry for my English (I'm from another country)

I really like how the devs try to even out the ratio between Java and Bedrock snapshots, it shows how much time and effort they put into the game and how much they care about the community. THANK YOU DEVS WE APPRECIATE YOU!

This is not totally related to mountain generation, but I think goats should have better jumping animations. They feel a bit clunky and out of place at the moment, especially when compared to the warden or to axolotls. A smoother animation like in their biome vote video would be very nice and inmersive imo.

I am really not a fan of how snow looks on top of stone. It just feels like the snow is out of place and doesn't belong there. Snow on grass looks nice due to the way it changes the texture of the grass to have that snowy overhang. If other blocks did this too, that would improve how the mountains look quite a bit

The only thing I can really think of is the clouds. Cloud height certainly has to be raised in 1.17. They generate too low even currently, but with the new mountains there would be clouds cutting through the landscape. Maybe they could be at y level 300? 315?

I feel that the frequency of mountains is too low and fails to leave a significant impact on the world generation. Personally, I would love to have more mountains to allow the natural beauty of them to shine.

The old generation of tall terrain should be changed, too, right now it's quite simply terrible.

The mountain generation seems to collide with water generation creating some ugly lakes

I like it, but could be a bit more taller and less hilly. The powered snow needs to be more than one block deep and needs to be more steep, because it's to easy to get up.

Personally I deffo think the nicer generation of mountains should be a little bit more common, as they are a pain to find out in the world. Older generation of mountain biomes could have a smoother transition as they just kinda zoom up at the moment. Apart from that everything is amazing and I’m loving the new generation.

Mountains are far too rare; I think making extreme hills and mountains spawn half-and-half would be a good idea. Don't worry about putting mountains in the center of extreme hills as that would make traversal annoying and limits the variety in the landscape around the mountains. Just have them spawn separately (as they are now) and increase the spawn rate of mountains considerably. I believe I heard somewhere that the height limit for mountains is ~256. If this is for performance then that's fine, but if it's to allow room for building, then experiment with giving them more height. Perhaps up to 300 or 280. This cuts the building space on the tallest mountains, but not every mountain (presumably) will spawn at the max height and I think this would make mountains even better while giving variety via mountains varying in height (~200 - ~300).
It's tough to identify the biomes without a proper locate command and thus making recommending biome ideas and tweaks extremely difficult as well due to not knowing if the recommendation is already in the game. Having this command added in an upcoming beta would be a great tool for users who want to give feedback in the coming months as tweaks are added to the mountain biomes.

Patches of Powder Snow should be more than one block deep much more oftenly, otherwise they wouldn't really be a threat which deincentivises the usage of Leather Boots!

And in my opinion there should be multiple cloud levels, maybe the lower ones would feel more like a fog and occur much less commonplace, while the others look like the fluffy wet things we see everyday, which would flow thirty blocks above the current (320.O) height limit. Also there are clouds that uncommonly occur over mountaintops called lenticular clouds, they look like UFOs and stay in one place for hours. Go look that last one up.

In tropical places, the snow line on mountains is a lot higher because it is so much warmer. So if mountains generate in jungle biomes, instead of generating with Snowy Slopes, it could generate with mountainous rainforest or a tepui (tabletop mountain) sub-biome.

There should be mountains that are encased in other biomes. These mountains would be a sub-biomes of both the biome that it is encased in, and the overall mountain biome.

Fanstic mountains, however I would make the following change:

    • make them a little bit more common
    • add a rare variant called extreme peaks which can peak out at 300 blocks and is a rare variant

Seeing the top of a high mountain from a plain or a deep hole in the ground is pretty insane so I suggest to add a new state into the game which is in 4 tiers: crystal, very foggy, quite foggy and foggy days.

They would have no impact on gameplay below Y 128 but work this way:

if the day is in one of the 3 foggy tiers you cannot see structures higher up than 128 no matter the render distance, so you see the base of the mountain but need to climb to its top:

    • if the day is foggy after passing Y 128 at an example height of 200 you can only see 45 blocks up and 45 blocks down your Y position (so 245 and 155)
    • if the day is quite foggy at the same example height you can see only 35 blocks up and 35 down
    • if the day is very foggy you can only see 25 blocks up and 25 blocks down
    • in crystal clear days you can see up and down as of now limited by your render distance only

At around 128 this would work a little bit differently:

    • if the day is in a foggy tier after going from 128 to 129 you do not instantly loose sight of dowards ground:you will loose sight of the Y areas below 128 gradually and the complete lost of contact will happen at Y 153 (128 plus 25) no matter the fog day tier. The upwards sight level just above 128 will slowly transition to the correct level of sight depending on the fog tier instead

I love how Mojang is changing minecraft forever. Preparing minecraft for the future. I love the mountains. They are masterpieces. But they are VERY RARE. I passed in a lot of mountains biomes but it was old mountains there not the new mountains. Since Mojang put an effort in giving us this amazing mountains at least make them more common to be appreciated.  I was in creative mode for 25 minutes to find one. If I was in survival mode it would take 10 days of me playing to find one. So my advices are:

    - Make mountains more common (way more common). Also those old mountains could be less generated(they are ok but not that many).

    - Some mountains should be way more taller almost in the limit.

    - Also fog would be so cool in those mountains. Fog would be cool in any biome but since is not possible at least for now it would be cool in mountains.

    - I know this was not announced on Minecon but would be so nice to see a hardcore weather in the top of mountains. Like snow more fast and more agressive and also a lot of wind (minecraft doesn´t have wind). But that wind would push you and make you fall and make you move way slower.

    - Last one: Also not announced but would be cool to see avalanches since that it what is about mountains. I know it´s hard in a block game had something like avalanches. But there are a lot of things that are no cubes on minecraft like smoke, like flowers, etc so maybe they can do that.

Finding mountains is epic, they are so much bigger than anything we've had before!

I like how they generated in a "range", at least the set I found.

I thought the challenge level for climbing them was well balanced - not hard enough to be frustrating but difficult enough to be engaging. I would have liked more defined peaks - I guess a little less noise in the heightmap.

With the additional world height, it would make sense to me to raise the "snow" level too. Snow in the hills seems misplaced now.

Edit to add: I found what looked like a standalone Mountain Meadows area. Nothing taller than the old Extreme Hills biome, but the terrain generation was so much nicer (except when it intersected with water). I may never be ok looking at the old Extreme Hills ever again! ;)

The new mountains look amazing but there's still some things that need to get flushed out:

    1. The snow/grass border around the mountains looks unnatural. It should look more jagged and have more variation.

    2. The new mountain biomes are extremely rare and should definitely be bumped up in terms of how frequently they spawn. They should also spawn in ranges and not the typical biome 'blobs'.

    3. The old mountains should have some changes made to them to make sure that they don't stick out. Right now they're ugly and barren and need some basic changes such as smoother/steeper terrain and a better foilage color, as well as some extra plants and trees.

    4. The clouds should be modified to spawn in multiple layers, and they should come with more variation to thickness and texture, as well as opacity. This would help with the atmosphere in the new mountain biomes, or heck it could just give the overworld a much nicer feel to it.
