And not just that, the owls can also alert you when danger is coming or when it's near, eagles should be in Minecraft too.

Some ideas. So don't quote me on this, but Mojang has some sort of thing where they don't want some of the players to get the wrong idea and do stuff like feed parrots with a cookie or try to make a fox a pet. One thing Minecraft has done with foxes is they made it so foxes can trust players. So wild foxes will run away, but the baby of foxes that were bred aren't scared of players. They don't follow players, but if a mob hurts a player they trust, they protect the player. What might be interesting is if owls worked in a similar fashion where they can't be tamed, but they can trust the player. Trusting owls should be able to occasionally approach players and perch on the player. Owls are also a bit like cats in their behavior. Perhaps they could scare away creepers and phantoms that approach a player they trust. And maybe sleeping near an owl could result in the owl bringing gifts. So foxes are to wolves as owls are to cats.

I like this idea, but I think another use for an owl mob, would have it help you in battle (similar to a wolf), by attacking enemies and animals kind of like how a phantom would, except it would dive bomb the enemy or attacked mob, and shoot strait down out of the sky and claw at the enemy or attacked mob.

I think it should also be a neutral mob and attack the player if the player attacks it, when it is not tamed.

I also think it should avoid any mob that has a ranged attack.

Overall, with all the ideas listed above (including the person who posted this idea) put together, would make this a really good mob.

I like the idea. I can imagine it hooting in the mega taiga/taiga biomes. It could add so much more atmeshere. I could also imagine it in the new swamp biomes!

It would be cool to add Owls in the Wild Update! It's fits the theme perfectly!
But, I think they should have another function, since this is one isn't that useful in a singleplayer game.

yep 100% perfect but i see having a owl on your should a bit weird i mean especially if its of a different size to a parrot maybe a new animation that makes you hold your arm out a tiny bit?

If they add owls i agree on the items isntead of messages.  And there should be those types someones else already suggested. But each varient should have a different temperment like real life. Barn owls should be complete passive to the player and other owls and birds. Great horned or tawny should be aggressive if player is near its nest or its hungry. And hostile to other owls that are in a nest they want.  The snowy should be completely neutral on weather you hit it or not etc.

I agree it should send items instead of messages.

The owls should be able to hunt chickens and bunnies and drop the meat on you.

Owls should be like dogs. Attack when there owners get attacked.

I love the idea but I dont think it makes sense for the messaging bit. Minecraft is meant to be for singleplayer, and while it would be a cool plug-in feature for multi, it doesn't make sense for now.

Maybe instead of that, they could carry chests similarly to donkeys? Or, if backpacks are added, those?

YAAASSS!!!! They could spawn in more temperate regions, or even have biome-based variants like bunnies!!! I think that wild ones should also eat frogs, or maybe even be witches' familiars!!

These could add creepy ambience sounds to freak out new players in forest biomes at night.

You are trapped, with no supplies, at the top of a hill, waiting for the dark silhouettes of monsters to hear you, (maybe crickets are chirping in the background for more ambience?) and you hear an owl's call from across the forest, and the fluttering of wings. All is silent again. Except for a small hiss coming from directly behind you.

Ok, so most players wouldn't be too freaked out, but new players could really be freaked out by this ambience. We could use more forest ambience, honestly.
