how about instead of books, just make it be able to send items, since you could just type in chat to send people messages

I think the job of sending messages should be done by carrier pigeons and that the owls should warn you of mobs around you

    - We also do not want minecraft to be transformed into a Harry Potter game -

Owls can drop feathers and maybe a new item called owl eye to make a new tool spyglass, that can also be found in shipwrecks, and they will allow the user to see further

yes i think this is very detailed and i think that when found and not crouched they will fly at you and do 1 half heart and go back and perch on a tree if tamed then the range of letter should be randomised like horse jump strength and speed and health

as a falconer, I would also like to see other birds of prey. Maybe (like irl) instead of taming them instantly like other mobs, you tame them over time with hard work!

I'm liking the idea of inventing owls to Minecraft, because I think these animals quiet fit into the games charme and style. Could really imagine them sitting inside trees, and hearing their sounds at night.  I'm not entirely clear over their purpose, which you mentioned. But definitely and interesting concept.

It could spawn more often at night and attack rabbits and make a noise when undead mobs are near

It would be nice if they were tamed with rabbit meat and hunt nearby rabbits

Pet owls won’t be added, mojang has not added any pet mobs that cannot be bought at a pet store irl and they’ve axed ideas like dolphin riding based on animal welfare.

And maybe allow them to deliver maps and other small items to but instead of delivering it to certain person you type in the coordinates when you give it the items and it will drop the items at those exact coordinates

Given the association of owls with wisdom, I think it would be a nice idea to make them bring you an enchanted book when you wake up, if you had set them free the night before, just like cats do with food.

Can I add and correct a little? Thanks. So, I guess in single player owls will be useless, so I came up with something. I'll start with the fact that minecraft is really not enough birds flying in the air. The game will be more elegant if there are birds in the sky. On this role perfectly suited owls and parrots (added). I think owls can be tamed with raw meat, after all they are predators. For a model of owl, you can take the parrot, just to make it thicker and with bulging eyes. Coloring matters! White-polar or brown-forest, all beautiful! I suppose owls can be trained to hunt like dogs. Their advantage is flight, which means skeletons would be difficult to shoot it down. Perhaps owls will be able to drag items in the beak like foxes. I do not exclude the fact that they can lay an egg :) and the main thing that you should consider is that owls are cute °^°

Perhaps I will do a sketch of the texture, but it's later

Is it possible to contact Mojang via Twitter? When I finish the sketches can I send them to you?

And send items. So annoying forgetting things while traveling. The owl would fly 50 blocks away from the sender and teleport 5 blocks away from the recipient. If blocks are in the way then it will teleport on the player. Ex:caves)

I love owls and so do my mom and grandma. That's why I fully support this idea. Also we need new birds in Minecraft. :)

I think itd be cool if owls could maybe fetch u one entity from a biome. Example, you spawn in a messa and there's very little trees and u want just a piece of bamboo or a sapling to start growing things. The owl could fetch it for u maybe for the price of feeding fish or something to the owl. Also what if there was a wizard villager?! A rare villager who had an owl for a pet and sold unique enchanted books or a different species of owl you could only get through him!

Signed books with player names along with items should be able to be sent. However, what I think would be cool is allowing exact coordinates to be given and they could fly to retrieve/ send items. This would be an epic way to use this mob with redstone. Say you want a shulker box sent to a hopper in a far off place. You could dispense a shulker box on the ground, then the instructions written as a book or a paper labeled with the coordinates could be dispensed as a way of telling the owl to fly. It would be fun to see the kind of intricate systems that could come from blending the different types of ways of sending items. This would allow for more versatility, but would cost a significant amount of time and resources to develop to keep it balanced. On severs mailrooms could be a fun way of interacting. This type of interaction between player and mob would encourage an entirely new behavior from the player; sustaining a system with friendly mobs. The owls wouldn’t be invulnerable so they would need protection from mobs. This could mean not sending your owl out at night so skeletons can’t shoot them, or giving your owl resistance and regeneration potions so that they can live to deliver messages. So many options come with this mob, redstone interface that would be totally new for the game without destroying any previous designs or concepts. It would bring life to item transportation and give precision to sending items without extremely resource costly systems. Give it a think.

If you wanted to send someone a message but they weren't online then the owl could deliver the book to the named recipients current set spawn (bed) in the current dimension somehow. If the named recipient didn't have a spawn point then some text would appear saying the owl doesn't have a way to deliver the book. This would reqiuire books to be made placable for my version of how this idea could work.
