For the accumulation of sand, How about sand that acts like snow layers? It would solve the problem of sand blocks just appearing out of thin air.

I love this idea! I know they are trying to make events be triggered by the player but if there was some way to prevent the event (a command for sure) in vanilla, it would make the actions of the event the 'players' fault as they could have prevented the disaster effecting something (unlike lightning strikes which are completely random and unpreventable until we see the addition of lightning rods). Having a block or an item to protect or prevent sandstorms seems to be crucial to making this a feature that they will actually employ in the game as they have said before they are opposed to events that harm the player if the player could not trigger or prevent them. In this case, the sand accumulation would be very cool but would there be a way to get around this in building so people don't have to constantly dig out their builds? A wall or a roof? I'm not sure how we can make this event the player's fault/ preventable but if it's possible I think this would be an amazing feature.

These sandstorms would occur in the very center of a desert or mesa biome.

These sandstorms should have a blizzard counterpart.

This would be very cool Deserts are super boring to look up and honestly need some huge update. Blizzards could be added too for the snow biomes

I once had a dream of a Minecraft sandstorm, I’ve wanted one in the game since, Go for it!

During a sandstorm, a lot of sand particles should swirl in the air.

An easy way to prevent your base from getting covered in sand is to build it up a few blocks.

Sand should accumulate at 0.25 block (4/16 block) per five minutes. Sandstorms occur when a thunderstorm loses its convective heat energy and begins to precipitate heavily. The rain carries the cold, high altitude air temperature down to the lower troposphere, and cools the air there, however there is still a large mass of warm air below the rain cooled air, especially if the rain evaporates before it reaches the ground, causing the cool air to descend rapidly and pressing the warm air outward. The mass of the volume of air that is pressed out is comparable (though much, much more massive) to a locomotive moving at 80 km/h; it will not stop if there is a big pile of dust in the way of the railroad tracks. Sometimes, this air will move into unwetted areas which have loose sand.

The duration and intensity of the dust storm is determined by the size and energy of the thunderstorm, as well as how dry and unvegetated the sand on the surface is. I don't know why I said this as it is probably irrelevant due to there being no atmospheric data values as of yet, but it could be, especially if storm clouds were put in place of the sky spontaneously turning dark and gray.

what a cool idea all it needs is that the sandstorm would blow you around and make it harder to walk in that direction

    you should move slow too!

    Deserts/Mesa - sandstorms
    Tundra/Deep Cold Ocean/Ice Spikes - blizzard!

I really like this idea! It could make the desert biome much more interesting to navigate and explore. I also think if you walk into the sandstorm, or get too close, it should sweep you up into the air and deal some sort of damage, like half a heart every 10 seconds you're in the storm. Also, if you're too high up when you get out of it, you should get fall damage. Let me know what you think!

    Sand farms?

(Maybe it could fill up cauldrons like snow does now.)

could combine this with cauldrons as a way to renew sand

I think that on the severe one you would slowly suffocate outside. You should also be pushed around by the storm unless your crouching.

I saw something like this I think on a system see video and I think he also mentioned that the could be near temples to make them harder to find so maybe they're a little more likely to occurs the nearer you are to a desert temple and maybe a little less likely near a village

it always struck me as weird how silent and still minecraft deserts were all the time, so i think having sandstorms (reduced visibility and particles flying sideways maybe with scraping wind sound effects) as what happens in the desert when the world is in a storming state would be a nice atmospheric addition. sand accumulation might be a bit much, maybe it would push mobs slightly to differentiate it from rain and snow.

If you aren't wearing a helmet it will do gradual damage. Also if you jump it will push you in a certain direction

Maybe the sandstorm's sand would accumulate into actual blocks of sand, (which could bury things like in the real world.)

I think that is cool and If we are going to add meerkats to Minecraft, have them hide underground 30 seconds prior to the storm as a natural warning system. Also this is probably off topic but I think amber or topaz in desert caves would be nice too.

I'm loving the desert sand accumulation idea - it would make the landscape dynamic just like real deserts are. Current deserts feel so boring and lifeless - they definitely need an update.

It could be cool if there were sand layers (similar to snow layers) that would build up.

If you're adding sandstorms, why not add visibility-reducing fog as a possible weather variant in the wetter biomes, as well?

Maybe there is a gamerule to disable it, and even a block like the lightning rod to protect you, maybe even and enchantment for your eyes on helmets, cacti might temporarily die and all animals run away for a bit, if you are unlucky enough to die in this event then lets hope that your stuff does not get blown far away; who knows, maybe you will even find it again a bit later elsewhere if you chose to go out exploring
