Sandstorm weather cycles in hot biomes like desert, and mesa. A common sandstorm would darken the skies and lower visibility like a rainstorm, but tint everything a light brown hue. A severe sandstorm would darken the skies further like a thunderstorm, and reduce visibility more thn a common sandstorm would. It would also tint everything with a dark brown hue, and have lightning. sand would accumulate and fall similar to a snowstorm in both storms, with severe storms causing more sand accumulation than common sand storms.

sand layers could happen with this update!
I dont think there should be lighting in severe ones it makes no sense why it happens other than its cool because lightning do big brain coolness things
Sounds great! One consideration for Mojang is the possibility of farming sand if the storms were to common.
love the idea!
maybe if the player doesn't have armor on it will deal a slight amount of damage?
Wirklich gute Idee es würde die Wüsten interessanter machen und man könnte auch dadurch Sandschichten hinzufügen wie im Schneebiom die Schneeschichten
Instead of just lightning, the sandstorm should mess with exposed redstone systems because they're electrostaticly charged, causing them to fluctuate from on and off randomly
That would be cool like being Mexican & Middle Eastern/Northern African experiencing those would make things more reaslistic
I like the idea of sandstorms slowing the player's movement and reducing range of visibility, but I don't think it should do any damage. That seems like it would get annoying real quick, even if the damage was low.
Husks should spawn more frequently in the storm and/or get some form of buff from it. Maybe instead of slowing down the player it gives the Husks a speed boost. Don't know which one I prefer.
On a final note, sandstorms should leave a layer of sand on all solid blocks like snow. This sand layer can work just like snow and digging it up with a shovel will create an item (like a sand pile) that can be used to craft a sand block. This would make cleaning up after a sandstorm worth the effort.
Or you could leave it to make your desert base look cool.
mobs could be thrown around by the wind too and same with sand and gravel. maybe it could begin when its raining?
I want more weather stuff
It should also slow down the player (and mobs, etc).
Even better, it would have a blowing direction and then either slow the player if it walks against it, or make it faster if they go in the same direction.
Similar to how flowing water also affects speed. Or how sandstorms work in Terraria.
Even a mini boss like terraria
so you're saying the sand will fly around? So what if the sand fell on you and suffocated you but it'd have the same rarity of getting struck by lightning? I think that it'd be cool, personally. also, if the sand falls like snow, it should have different layers, like snow.
good
I'm guessing that sand layers could be picked up and than be crafted into sand blocks
I think this is a great idea, however, I think it should only be activated when thunderstorms are happening. This will make them rare and feel substantial. Perhaps more husks could spawn during these events.
You should slowly lose hearts until you can make a shelter
This is a great idea to make the desert more alive! Sand layers would also be a great addition
Well, that could be cool. However, what about having other natural occurences?
What a splendid idea! Add camels too! A twist to the good old Llama...
the sand accumulation would make sand farmable, which i like!
I think its to extra I do not think Mojang will ever add Tornados, Sandstorms, or even Tsunami in The near future of Minecraft so I think the right thing to do os just to wait until we get info about this.
If this is added, they need to add a soundtrack. Terraria pulled this off awesomely.
It could also add the sand layers, acting like snow layers, being spread and falling, while it's storming
Evan Bookout My desert consists mostly of hard dirt, rock & limestone. Windstorms are a thing & they kick up a lot of dust. There are a lot of great ideas in here, taking from reading, here's a perspective:- Affect movement speed & visibility- Spawn Sand Golems- Lightning- A dust devil where if you get too close it picks you up and throws you based off its rotation- Rolling sagebrushThe biggest thing to keep in mind here though are wind mechanics. This is adding a whole new layer to the environment. The deserts are a good 'initiator' because of the lack of stuff to get in the way, but how do they operate on a norm? No wind? Layer 190 never stops being windy? How do these pressures generate, dissipate & spawn a sandstorm?I think this is a great idea, and a way to avoid taking damage this is wearing a helmet. Or maybe add an enchantment that protects you from the sand.
