Having lived a significnt part of my life in deserts, this would be an excellent addition.

I like the visibility/atmosphere parts of your idea, but I dislike the sand accumulation. To clarify: are you proposing that sand blocks just appear out of thin air during sandstorms??

    @MacchuPicchu96

I'm assuming it'd be sand layers, much like how snow layers appear in snowy biomes after snowfall.

The idea sounds amazing, and it sounds easy to program. At some point in the next few years I'm positive that will happen.

There could be tornadoes in biomes as well, which would rip blocks and mobs out of the ground and fling them elsewhere.

I quite like the idea. Maybe, as others pointed out, this would requrie the creation of sand layer blocks, similarly to how snow piles up, but I think it'd be worthwhile, bringing another addition to the desert biome. Also, maybe husks would spawn more frequently during this event

It's a great idea to have desert sandstorms that darken the skies and reduces visibility. It would make the desert biome more unpredictable to have a sandstorm wall moving across it. It would also be pretty cool to hear the wind as the storm starts.

There could be different levels of sandstorms and the highest leveled sand storm can summon Husks!

And yes it should be quite hard to sea as well.

it would also be cool if very extreme ones could blow entities around imagine living in the dessert biome getting caught in a sandstorm on the way home and having to slowly walk home in low visibility against the wind

Just one thing to add- The sandstorm could maybe push the player around. Voted!

It shouldn't occur in mesa, since there is no sand there, but there should be sandstorms in the badlands. Maybe sandstorms in the badlands could have a reddish hue instead of a brownish one, given the red sand.

I don't like the sand accumulation. While it does make sense, I think layers of sand like layers of snow would not really work so well. Maybe in a sandstorm crops won't grow and entities can't move as fast.

I suggest instead of the sand accumulating maybe there can be sand particles and while its happening make a new effect in the game where the players sight is hazed. The sand storm only occurs during a thunderstorm.

I think movement speed should be reduced in a sandstorm, like wind and sand is pushing against you.

We all know that in Minecraft there are natural climatic events that vary from per specific biome. In tropical biomes there are normal rains and even lightning storms, while in cold and icy biomes snow showers occur. My idea is that in desert biomes there was a sandstorm, on the one hand it would be a natural climatic event, and on the other, a challenge in the gameplay, when activated it could activate the effect of blindness in the character, and adding it to the husks zombies, would be perfect.

Maybe husks could spawn in large numbers during Sandstorms, just to give these biomes a bit more danger.

I think that when there is a thunderstorm in other biomes, there should be a severe sandstorm in deserts, and that when you walk outside you take damage when wearing no armour. You should be able to shield from the sand by going behind a wall, assuming that the sand would always come from the same direction (eg: north)

I like this idea, sandstorms could also be used in order to "fill" sand into areas where players farmed it empty:

If this is put into mesas and deserts, the Mesa sandstorm should have a more orange hue to the color.

HalfwayShelf23 no mesa. Only badlands and desert. Mesa has no sand, just bare rock, so why would there be sandstorms?

I really like this idea but what if red sand blew across the mesa from the badlands? Also it would be good if it slowed down the player's movement. Maybe you would not be able to mine as fast or at all in a sandstorm.

And in such events villagers would stay inside the houses, and maybe outside villagers put on like a rag of sorts over their face, and the iron golems get a scratched up type of skin on them after they go through one.

So a sandstorm could blow players around and damage them? If it stops the player from getting to safety them it would probably become very annoying, especially if you respawn out in the open in the middle of one. Getting caught in a death loop until the sandstorm passes or waiting it out on the respawn screen seems pretty aggravating.

Also the opacity of the storm could be a problem. If it can be turned down or completely off it would be alright as long as it doesn't cause damage.

i really like the idea of sand accumulating but i want to take it one step further why not also add sandgolems so sand becomes easily farmable also you got my vote
