Please reconsider releasing the Bedrock Edition for macOS!

The Education Edition (which is based on the Bedrock engine) is available for macOS already, so there's no technical issue preventing it. Let's have Bedrock on all the things!

yes there is education edition on MacOS, but I want the regular bedrock engine on mac. Why don't they do this. If they have education edition on Mac already, it shouldn't be that hard to do it for the regular bedrock edition.

@nasloan it would take so little resources to port it to Mac, it both wouldn't be at the expense of java edition pretty much at all. But linux idk

@NavalTundra668 Exactly what I was going to say here

Linux support would be awesome. Mojang could atleast make the windows edition a non UWP program so that us linux users could run it with Wine🍷. Porting the DirectX made Bedrock edition would be difficult because linux only runs on OpenGL/Vulcan. But if MS would be willing to port dx to other systems, it would be 100 times easier.

I'm putting my vote in now. Porting from iOS to macOS shouldn't be a difficult task (relatively speaking) for mojang. Having macOS support would be amazing as it's great to play on a laptop when travelling.

Paid for the java version to be able to play with my kids who play on their Ipads, just to find out, it's not supported. Please fix.

    If they do bring bedrock to Mac, they should make it free for existing owners, because I just want to play with all my buddies ;_;

I think they should just put the iPad app on the Mac App Store since Apple supports that now.

Apple was launching a thing for macos that lets you move iPad apps to mac

please give us this ability so we can play with Xbox players. I understand the concern of devs who made stuff for the classic Java edition, but it feels strange having the java edition limited to only PCs, and to be unable to play with servers that are accessible via console and mobile. Thanks.

Definitely want to be able to get bedrock as I already had java before the deadline and always thought i could just get bedrock only to find out that it's not available for my operating system. Very disappointed. Hope to see it soon.

As someone who regularly uses both macOS and Windows 10, it would be great to have some consistency between these platforms. I decided to give Bedrock a try on Windows 10 and I got hooked on how smooth it was. Now I have a fortified village with a nice mending trade. I want to be able to play that world on my Mac as well.

It would be lovely to have Bedrock available on macOS. Better together

Mac/Linux Users need the bedrock version! Please hear our voices!!! We only have Macs in our home and would mean we would have to buy new PCs to play Minecraft!

I play on Mac and PS4. It sucks when all my friends are playing minecraft cross platform and the only two consoles I have aren't compatible.

considering bedrock came from pocket built for ios which is very similar in build process to mac os these days... it is a crime there is no bedrock edition on mac yet. (not that its easy, just saying...)

but for the love of Steve do not abandon the java edition!

I can (but not fully) code iOS and TVOS AND I say one thing MACOS CAN SUPER EASY GET BEDROCK EDITION and and it's extra easy if it's a game. So MOJANG AND/OR MICROSOFT this is good.

I am also part of a purely Linux and Mac household and 100% agree with you, excluding leaving Java edition behind.

Minecraft Bedrock Edition would be AMAZING to see on Linux and Mac! Currently we are using "Bedrock Launcher" To use Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Linux but it is buggy as all heck considering it is using the Android version with some kind of compatibility layer. Would be great to see a native version!

With the new OS Catalina porting an iPad app on Mac is considered to be completely painless. If at this point they don’t release a Mac version of bedrock, it will be clear it’s only a marketing decision. And nobody here will change their mind unfortunately.

I'd love to be able to play bedrock on my mac because my mac can't handle java edition. I pretty sure bedrock takes less processing power than java.

"Better Together" can only be realized by bringing Bedrock to the Mac (sorry Java fans, but cross-platform Java will likely not be happening, although it is a great idea). Given that Bedrock is written in C++, which is by its nature portable, there really is no technical reason why a port to Mac can't be done.

So bring Bedrock to the Mac, have it co-exist with Java for a couple of years as players decide which version to go with (hint: they will switch to Bedrock so they can play with everyone else). Then give Java modders a real way to port their mods to Bedrock (not trivial but worth doing).

A big upvote for the Bedrock engine on Mac & Linux!

Please update Bedrock to support Mac OS. I've been playing MC since day one and one of my favourite things was being able to play it on any computer.

I am a mac user and when I try to play with my friends I just can't. There's no reason to not bring over bedrock to mac by not doing that Microsoft is literally isolating one of if not the most loyal Minecraft fanbases and one of if not the oldest Minecraft fanbases.

    Okay.

First of all, the java edition should NOT, I repeat, NOT be abandoned, as it is written in Java, which makes the game much easier to mod.

Second, cross platform is not possible, or even plausible, between the Java version of Minecraft, and the Bedrock (C++) version of Minecraft. They use different programming languages, and have numerous differences in rendering engines, performance, availibility on ARM architechure processors, and so much more.

Third, for all of y'all out there who think "Minecraft Bedrock Edition is only for Android, iOS, and Windows 10," I say this: Android and iOS both only run on ARM architechure processors, while Windows 10 is not made for ARM. Mac OS and Linux are both (mostly, in the case of linux,) not made for ARM. The technical hurdle of ARM and non ARM has been overcome. It is possible to run Windows 10 on both a Mac, and a Linux machine (by this I mean a machine that was made specifically to run Mac OS or a Linux distro.) So processor type is not the issue.

What about the program itself? The Minecraft for non ARM is an exe file, how will that work on a Mac?

Well, Mojang will have to figure that out... At least they would, if they had not made Education Edition work on Mac OS.

So there you have it. My opinion mixed with my experience (from trying to get Java Edition to work on an ARM based Chromebook... It didn't work.)

Hope I have helped clear things up, and I sincerely hope that Mojang ports Bedrock Edition at least to Linux.

I 95% agree with this post, Bedrock should 100% come to macOS but definitely not at the expense of the Java edition.  And as much as I would love to have Bedrock-Java crossplay, I alas know that while the Java edition is still coded in Java and Bedrock remains in C++, it will most likely not possible.

After posting this I read the post above me and realize that I said nearly the exact same thing shorter, and dumber.

If you are on Linux you can use mcpe-launcher (https://mcpelauncher.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) and run it from there. It preforms pretty well.

Isn't the Minecraft Bedrock Edition suppose to be available on ALL platforms?

It will be real nice if we can just buy it right of from the Apple App Store. Maybe Microsoft can have a XBox website for downloading the dmg file and you login with your XBox account if you already bought a copy.

It'll be lighter on the batteries in a macbook. Less heat and less battery drain.

I am using a MacBook Pro OS X EI Capitan 10.11.6
