The fact that there's not a bedrock version of minecraft for macOS yet is sort of interesting. The Education Edition of Minecraft (which runs on the Bedrock engine) already exists, so it's not like they need to port the engine or anything, it's just a matter of when they'll release it. The education edition is just a modified version of the base game. It even gets updated every so often, with feature parity up to Bedrock 1.7.

(edit) Here's some screenshots of the game running

I'm guessing that it not being on mac is intentional, Windows loves to shoehorn people into buying their products if they can by tethering them to other things they would have already bought. I highly doubt bedrock would have any trouble porting to mac and linux, as they port it to consoles and mobile just fine, which is waaaaaaay harder on the technical end. They obviously know people want the game on other operating systems, and are likely keeping it to just the one for selfish and petty reasons. Ultimately profit is more important than the happiness of their customers, so long as that happiness or lack thereof doesn't interfere with profit ;)

It absolutely boggles my mind that Bedrock isn't available on at least macOS. Rebooting into Win10 to play Bedrock multiplayer is NOT worth it imo, so until then Java edition will remain my most played on the devices I use the most: my Hackintosh & MacBook Pro.

That would be really good but I am pretty sure that would take an awful amount of working on and sadly java features are completely different and there for probably couldn't be played multiplayer unless the features are exactly the same but cross play to java would be sooo good

Just put out a Bedrock Edition, have it run concurrently with the Java Edition. It’s essentially already there ready to go (Education Edition)! We are a Minecraft family who came in via the Pocket Edition, the kids & nephews all have it on iPhones, iPads, Switch, Apple TV & I am paying to host a Realm for them - yet I can’t join from my Mac. It’s such a bummer.

I have a MacBook Pro, and I would love to be able to have a Bedrock version of Minecraft, so that I can play with my friends on other platforms.

I primarily play on IPad, but would like to play on OS/X from time to time, eg. when inviting other user's in my household into my world.

My brothers and I used to play Pocket Edition together all the time, and I have multiple other friends who currently play Bedrock Edition. I would like to play with them, however, I take issue with playing Minecraft on the small screen of my phone, and I've gotten far more used to PC controls than mobile controls. Currently, I use Ubuntu Linux as my only non-mobile operating system. Because of all this, I think a Linux port of Bedrock Edition would be very useful to me personally.

Please devs, update us on this topic. Would love to see Minecraft bedrock version coming to Mac. Currently we are unable to cross platform Minecraft because of the lack of a Mac bedrock version. Is it coming in the near future?

This would offer an extra layer of convince to people like me who uses Mac instead of Windows. I won't have to install Windows on my Mac via bootcamp to play Minecraft Bedrock anymore; I can just play it natively.

Most of my friends own a Mac computer, and I'm really upset I can't play with them. They own the Java version, and I only own the Bedrock version on multiple devices. Minecraft Bedrock is a great version, even has a few exclusive features, and I really want to play with my friends on another platform.

    Make Minecraft more unified.

While I don't think anyone wants Java Edition to be completely replaced, Mac and Linux Bedrock should definitely be considered - then it would be REAL cross platform play.

Yeah I think the player base could be stronger. And the cross platform would be better if it was on Linux and Mac too

Yes, it's obvious. What happened to Microsoft Loves Linux?

I hope that this will be a thing one day because I am getting tired of all these Windows updates and I just want to go to Linux to play the Bedrock edition. I know it's possible to play the Java edition but Bedrock feels too smooth to just let go and I wouldn't be able to play with some friends on XBOX/Switch.

Edit: Java should still be it's own thing but having another option to cross-play would be amazing.

I agree with @nasloan. Absolutely do bring bedrock to macos. But don't worry about bedrock-java crossplay. And definitely not at the price of deprecating java edition.

    • Put it on the App Store for Mac
    • Put it on Steam for Linux and older versions of Windows (7 to 8.1), and maybe Mac too.

The Education Edition, which is based on Bedrock is already available for Mac, and Windows 7 to 8.1.

There were two older posts for Linux and Mac that got removed (archive links here and here). Each had 710 and 325 votes respectively as of September 2017 versus the current posts's 647 votes.

For Linux, you could also make an AppImageFlatpak, or Snap, which should support a wide range of Linux distributions.

Comparison of the three on AppImage's GitHub wiki.

Yes, I play this on Win10, iPad and Android. Now I'm working more on my Linux partition, and I can't play with my daughter (iPad) and my nephew (Android) 'cause there's no Linux client to play with them. I almost bought the Java Edition (given it's the only one available on linux) but I tried to find out if it was compatible with the others. Luckily, I checked. Let us play with our family and friends on the same world! Give us Bedrock on Linux (and Mac too, since we're at it)!!!

Please allow Minecraft Bedrock on MacOS, I bought Minecraft to enjoy with friends with cross-play, turns out it is limited, I would really appreciate it if it happens soon.
