I was skeptical at first but near the end you won me over. I definitely think the smithing table needs some more uses.

Half heart with leather, one heart with chain and gold, two for iron, three for diamond, and four for netherite, or perhaps a specialized helmet enchantment that reduces the damage from stalactites...

I like them being able to have multiple on a block but I'm not sure how it would work with their other mechanics.

I like the armor idea, especially since you can attract lightning with a lightning rod. But I think it should be a status effect that lasts for around ten minutes or until you are no longer wearing...
