The mushroom lights aren't bright enough to completely stop mobs from spawning, just make it harder. Also, they would not melt ice. (Minecraft needs more lights that don't melt ice.)

I like the amethysts, things have been added just for decoration before. I would like to see the amethyst get some uses in enchanting, or even magic, though.

I wouldn't make them undetectable, or I would put more valuable stuff in the snowy biomes because it just might not be worth it. Not that I don't like the idea.

Also, rusted Iron cannot be mined without silk-touch, for realism. Also, the first two stages can be abolished via the brush, but the final stage requires lightning to set it right.
