I actually think they would've been a better (and more thematic) addition to the oceans in the aquatic update instead of the drowned. Voted!

I realy like your idea but I think they should be like zombie pigmen and only hostile when you hit them but should be tameable with a new plant like a watterlilly

There's already Drowned in game that are like undead sea people and I don't think they're gonna change the temple. Also wearing a dead persons tail that gives the player speed and water breathing doesn't really seem real.

Also there's underwater ruins that already show that there was deep sea life.

Blast Burner those are homes and structures that got flooded, not underwater life.

Sorry Gonzalo I meant to say that there was already land life and that it did get flooded in.

Maybe also do it with it if you give a mermaid or merman a diamond or emerald they will give you water breathing powers for like 5 minutes or something?

In some ways this could work, having tradable npcs in an underwater village setting could be cool. The whole capturing mermaids and having dolphin armies thing might be a little much for Minecraft.

@CrazyChick475 I do not like the Idea of a Town with Mermaids, But I have a better Idea why not Sirens they are Greek Mythology Creatures that use their Enchanting voice to lure people to them and come in Packs of 2 or 3, they spawn on small stone islands and they could be the 1st ever Minecraft mob that lures people to them. If you like this idea go to my account and like my Post about Sirens, and like so Sirens/Mermaids could get added. (Btw also If you do thank you very much, and if they add Sirens I will be so happy, I am the 1st person to talk about Sirens in Minecraft Feedback)

@Blast Burner its Fantasy, It's not like everything has to be real, have you heard of Mythology or stories that's Fantasy.

This would add a nice collection to the coral reef. Make the ocean more magical and enjoyable for players to live in it. :)

Very creative, but I don't think it fits Minecraft's style very well...

maybe instead of in prismarine temples, perhaps a new dimension for them? a dimension for magical creatures.

Now that 1.13 filled the oceans with life and 1.14 polished villages, it would be fitting and fantastic to put in underwater Mermaid villages in Ocean biomes, with mostly similar functions to their land-walking siblings.

La sirenas deberían ser aldeanos pero con cola de sirena,no hermosas sirenas sino excepcionales excelsas sirenas narigonas, es mi opinión ok.

Please don't bring actual mythology in this. Instead just make it like normal villages.

    Oh and @CrazyChick475
At the end when you say something about dying the mermaid tail. Will players be able to wear it and look alike a mermaid? OR EVEN TRANSFORM TO ONE WHEN THEY TOUCH WATER!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I also have an idea. Any of the villages that are by the lake, can have a well that leads to a tunnel that leads to the mermaid village

sketchedgrey, I feel like if the mermaids breed with humans, then they should breed with villagers that live by the sea, if they did they

    1. Would not have long noses

    2. Would swim and not die in the water

    3. Would still be able to trade and do what ever profession they’re land parent did(like if it’s dad was a farmer, it could still farm above land)

If they breeded, they would turn into a new kind of villager, called the Half-Breeds. They would live by the ocean in villages and the cartographers would give you a map of the mermaid village nearby. Also, I feel like this would be a great addition to Minecraft, but (and this is hard for me to say bc I LOVE mythology) unless you have a mod, the chieftain would not (and this next part is making me cry) be Poseidon/Neptune

    Thx!

I think that is a great idea. I also think that they could have some sort of trading concept like villagers.

maybe you could add some sort of ore called magic gems and you could use them to trade with the mermaids. Maybe if you kill a mermaid you get a mermaid tail. The mermaid tail would give you water breathing. I really hope that their will be a mermaid update.

Honestly that all seems a little much. You'd probably want to keep it just the mermaids, not all the extra stuff. The mermaids alone have a lot of potential as a water mob. They can be set up like wolves, where they're tameable, but start neutral unless you make them hostile by doing something like hitting a mermaid, dolphin, or sea turtle nearby. And like wolves the can have a changeable appearance to show when they're hostile, where they appear human-like when neutral but turn fish-monster when hostile. Taming one could bring a few benefits, such as assisted swimming like what dolphins do, attacking underwater mobs for you, and/or saving you if you drown. Alternatively they could be a type of aquatic villager, trading for ocean materials, but it would be better if they spawned villages away from undersea temples, possible with a basic conduit at the center in place of a fountain

For some reason, I don't think finding mer-people would fit the theme of the game, though a forgotten structure they left behind before fleeing. (they would not be friendly with the drowned, and somebody has probably spawned the wither in the overworld before)

If they were added, I would prefer if they were only found in ultrarare structures in deep ocean trenches and cold ocean biomes and you could trade with them to upgrade your conduit so that it provides power for a far larger radius.

The current conduit would be the artificial (player made) version of the one the mer-people would make, as the mer-people created the original/more natural versions.

They would be so hard to find (and why they would live in cold biomes) is because they were fleeing the drowned and the guardians (which are clearly on the drowned's side)

They would be like villagers (in their actions, not their design) and would drop nothing, using pearls or prismarine as a currency.
