Termites: Will invade places with lots of wood (villages and your house) if you happen to live in a savannah, dessert or mesa. They are too small to hit with a sword so you will have to enlist the help of the native animals. In the dessert and mesa you will find meerkats, to lead them back to an infestation you will have to crouch in front of them with a dead termite which you find where the infestation is (since termites don't have long lifetimes) if you scare the meerkat it will retreat in to it's burrow which is marked on a block by a black hole when it comes back out again in about 10 seconds you have to try again if you manage to tame it because it is a wild animal will lose interest and run away if you take to long so lead it to the infestation quickly (it follows you like a wolf but for a limited time). To bring an ostrich back it is much simpler just lead it to the infestation with wheat or seeds (like a cow or pig). When either mob reaches the infestation it will run around crunching the bugs until there are none left then it will run away in search of more termites. leaving you to clean up the damage. Maybe if you save a village they could reward you with gifts similar to the ones you would find in blacksmith chests.

you should drown them with water!
Out of all the good ideas why this? Sure it is a interesting concept, but I'd rather have them work on other things.
I think termites should have a chance of spawning after you break a block of wood in desert Savannah and mesa biomes and be like silverfish...
Neat idea but I think it would be really annoying
If there was a way to downvote this, I would. This sounds like an awful idea. Now no one will want to build in any of these biomes.
Don’t do this please. you’ll ruin Minecraft. Also i’ve Built a large structure in a savanna primarily out of wood, and I don’t want it to get undone in a few (minecraft) days. Besides, No one will build out of wood in these biomes anymore, yet alone find acacia logs.
I think termites will add a new level of complexity to Minecraft, but I have to agree there needs to be a way to protect your homes if termites are capable of potentially destroying them. For example, maybe there's a substance you can add to a recipe or something you can coat on wood or around it to repel the termites. There are those who probably would love the idea of homes potentially having termite infestations, but there are also those who want to ensure their builds aren't destroyed. As long as there's a way to prevent an infestation, even if it's something as simple as a repellant that has a radius area, then I think most people will find the idea fun. :)
Are termites still going to be added even though they weren't voted in?
So what if a wood based block had contact with termites for a while, then the wood becomes to unstable it breaks when you walk over therefore creating a new block called Rotting Wood.
I think this is a simple yet effective thing to add and maybe by finding and keeping a termite nest, and the termites keep rebuilding their mound you could collect course dirt or podzol. OR just thinking about i think a termite mound the dirt from it would make a really good fertilizer!
I think maybe they should have a choice (pe) before loading the game that says “ world opstions” and the thing to turn termites off and on should say“enable termites”.
I think you can still hit them, but there is a chance of failing, instead of just not being able to hit them at all.
what would you do about the infestation if you live nowhere near a desert?
I believe that this would ruin the feel of the game. As it's bad enough when you lose something to a creeper or an Enderman when he inevitably steels your stuff. This feels like an edition that will turn may users away from Minecraft. Just imagine: having finally finished your colossal Mega-Base, that took, literal weeks to build due to the 10 double chests of wood you needed to fill and empty in its construction; For it to be destroyed simply because some termites showed up and you couldn't find a Meerkat. All in all this has the feel of a punishment to players that build primarily with wood than a useful addition that will contribute to the current game.
On another note. If the termites are to be as small and pervasive as is described in the post above, this will cause the entity count in an average players base to skyrocket. The lag will be immense, and it'll definitely piss off a huge portion of Minecrafts' player base.
Part 2
Finally on a third note. Why would anyone in their right mind want another mob in the game that will most definitely be a struggle to lead. This in my onion will leave players building with wood full of un-satisfied frustration.
Whereas i like the concept of a small mob like the Meerkat adding life to arid biomes, the method of taming in the post would ruin them as a whole. The Meerkat should have nothing to do with termites.
In conclusion, this change if added needs a complete overhaul on how it works, due to these tremendous oversights. As it stands this has a very unbalanced and non-vanilla feel.Dont make them eat wood like orespawn though!
Instead of breaking wood, termite-infested blocks should instead become weakened. Wood would turn into rotten wood, and this block would have a random chance of breaking, like leaves decaying, or will break when a player stands on it for too long.
(PS i didn’t see a similar comment above has been posted, but still a great concept to consider)
make all this on all
consoles
I would make them like silverfish that but instead of stone blocks they burrow into wooden blocks.
I would love this to add a sense of realism to the game, plus it could lead to other insects[ants, flies, mosquitoes, etc.] because who wants to play a game with 0% realism.
i also hope these are introduced to bedrock edition because that's what i play on.
This would be another thing to deal with in survival and I think it would be great

minecraft should be peaceful and not full of things that can destroy builds without any stopping it
I think there is a great opportunity to add anteaters and armadillo's to the game. They are the natural enemy of the termites. they locate the termites by smelling there surroundings. They dig into the termite nest with there massive claws. I can see them being used for farming termites and what not.
I would also be interesting and weird to see a termite boss of some sort.
I think termites should produce an item that lets you recycle wood and/or change wood into different types (ex: jungle to birch)
Could termites destroy your creative builds?
I'm loving the new mechanic with Bees popping in and out of the block. I think this would be an awesome addition for Termites if they get an entity as well. (It could very well just be a block though, not sure what Mojang is planning).
Would water effect the termites
