    Instead of 2 string and an iron pick it could be a lead and an iron pick this would add a fun use for the lead

    Cool idea, maybe it could only stick to certain blocks like stone and wood, but not blocks like glass or sand.

    I support this idea too much, I think it would be incredible to have a hook to rappel in different environments, and with much more reason you should consider implementing it since we already have a caves & cliffs update. Crafting could be done with nether chains and some expensive or exotic materials to give it merit to build and use it. Halo Infinite recently implemented a grapple hook and it is simply a spectacular mechanic, super fun to be able to move freely in an open world, now imagine something similar in minecraft where we have an almost infinite world.

    I love this idea, but I don't think it's powerful enough.

    It's made with an iron pickaxe and has a mere 16 block reach? That seems severely underpowered. I think the grappling hook should either have a range comparable to a bow or durability comparable to an iron pickaxe (so around 250).

    The grappling hook would still be outclassed by ender pearls later in the game, but that's to be expected.

    I feel like a grappling rope would take away from the minecraft experience. Making climbing and such too easy.

    However, having a portable ladder of sorts could be really useful. There's often holes that you're curious about exploring, however not feeling like going all the way down them only to have to nerdpole back up.

    A portable ladder with durability would be a good solution for this.

    20 uses? I say about 50 uses so you have fair shot to mend it.

    I believe this would be a great feature but I would add different types like Dimond gold netherite cobblestone wood. Also, you should raise the block distance and more uses the better the type this feature would really help in the nether fighting the dragon or even mining or even add enchants like allow mending to be on or even have a reach enchant or faster grappling. that is what I believe.

    Something similar that was discussed in the comments that I think would be a better alternative would be the addition of grappling hooks. Imagine the possibilities for building, mining or just plain adventuring. Even better if we could dual wield grappling hooks and feel like spiderman or the scouts from Attack on Titan just hooking around. I love the elytra but this sounds like a way more fun way to travel and potentially more useful for tall but smaller sized areas. I feel that they should have an expensive recipe and be an end-game. Don't know if I should make a new suggestion or just keep it as a comment.

    Grappling rope would be awesome for climbing cliffs. I think it should be crafted with lead across the three middle spots, gunpowder in the two far left spots and some iron in all the other spots. I don't even care how it's crafted, I just want it to be a thing!

    The durability should be much longer.  And enchNTABLE WITH MENDING AND UNBREAKING 3.  Better yet, remove the durability.

    It should have more than twenty uses. It should have the same durability as an iron pickaxe. Maybe instead of an iron pickaxe, you could use copper for it? Copper needs more uses.

    I think it should have a lot more than only 20 uses. It should go up to ten blocks, and any blocks after that distance will require one lead. You could swing from block to block and you could hang from a block allowing you to mine while grabbing onto the rope.

    I think that 20 uses isn't enough !!!!!
    Using an iron pickaxe for only 20 uses is a little useless (that's only what I (I wanted to put it in uppercase, but it HAVE TO be in uppercase) think (yes, that's a lot of parenthesis)).

    This idea is great. For instance, you want to build a skyscraper in survival, and boom you can go up a lot of blocks!

    If you'll allow my creativity to expand this idea, maybe there should be a few enchantments specifically for this item? For example, "Drawing" which could extend the distance the rope could travel by 3 blocks per level. Or maybe "Launching" that could reduce the time it takes to mine, indicated by light cracking around the edges of the block.

    Having grappling points could help make this not OP. To get where you want to go you have to do the hard yards first, then once you are there you can anchor a grappling point down allowing you to attach the hook from a distance to rappel or swing to in the future. Traversing up cliffs or down caves anchoring from point to point doesn't take the initial risk/reward thrill away from exploring new areas, improves quality of life for returning ti already explored areas, and makes caving and climbing more fun! Plus it opens up new building opportunities such as base entrences, redstone contraptions, decoration etc. Please make this a feature as I feel like water buckets are so lame and ender pearls are too expensive.
