Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Was just doing some exploring in an Ice Spikes biome and it struck me that I really wanted something like this.

    Do we really need it?

No – we have all sorts of things to solve sticky situations:
    - Elytra, for flying
    - Block stacking, the easy way

Problem is, Elytra is really imprecise if you just want to get to the top of that one spike, and comes with a lot of risk. It's just a big headache.

Block stacking leaves a mess, unless you have the exact blocks, or the ability to mine them away once you get to the top - which you often don't. When I'm scouting out the terrain looking for somewhere to build, I really don't want to be leaving obstructive blocks lying around.

    The benefits

This could add a lot of flexibility to lightweight exploring, add potential new dynamics to the Ender Dragon fight, and reduce the necessity of terrain manipulation where the only reason to change the terrain is to just get there just once.

This also has the potential to be useful in building, getting to all those tight places that you'd have to build a stack of blocks, just to get that one thing – potentially changing mechanics a lot, but depending on the implementation, placing blocks could be left with clear advantages (such as flexibility in being able to actually move around)

Also, in some ways… it's not super minecrafty Similar to how (to me) the fishing rod doesn't really feel minecrafty

Pet spiders, however, would totally solve all these problems and be super cute. Tameable & rideable spiders!

I think this would be a great addition. Especially with the Caves and Cliffs update on the horizon.

I think this is a great alternative to ender pearls as getting the pearls from endermen is quite scary for some people. Perhaps it can act like a swing except that you can release the hook from the block that you're swinging on.

This could be a great way to explore the new caves easier! This gets my vote.

if they add a falcon mob, you could use beaks or claws to make grappling arrows

Maybe you could hang on the ceiling with it, for building?

That's pretty nicealso now with the new chain from the nether updateand  maybe the trident or a new   object (just to add a little difficult to build it). Idk maybe the warden could drop it.

you could craft it with chains and an iron pick with the iron pick in the top middle of the crafting bench and two chains beneath it. Like a shovel but the diamond or iron is a pickaxe instead and the sticks are chains, you should also be able to increase the range by crafting it with more chains. 4 extra blocks every time you add 2 chains with a limit of 32 blocks. or you could add the chains in the smithing table

I think this is a great idea, but I would consider making it durability based instead of use based, with around the same durability as an elytra, and taking away different amounts of durability based on how many block the grappling hook was thrown. The hook could have a slipping feature that gives it a 8% chance to slip a few seconds after the head of the hook hit a wall/ledge/whatever you are grabbing on to.

Another suggestion I have is that it has it's own enchantments:

    • Zip I-III: changes the speed at which the grappling hook pulls you
    • Reach I-IV: extends the distance at which the hook can be thrown
    • Grip I-II: lowers the percentage of the likely hook that the hook slips

I was thinking of a concept like that, maby there could be climbing picks instead ( two pickaxes) that only let you climb stone and dirt stuff

Maybe a grappling rope crafted with a crossbow could make a 'Grappler' that has 35 uses and goes up thirty-two blocks, with a slightly slower cooldown of 3 seconds.

This would be a PERFECT thematic fit for the new Caves & Cliffs update, with the massive mountain generation, huge caves and ravines with overhangs. Swinging through the air like Indiana Jones sounds both super complex to program and not very Minecraft-y, as well as stepping on the toes of the ender pearl and elytra, but having it work like a temporary ladder that doesn't need supporting blocks would be great.

I'd prefer a durability bar to a fixed number of uses.

I feel like this is even more relevant now, the new caves will be such a pain to traverse if for example you see diamonds embedded in the wall of some expansive cave.

Maybe it could hold you in place where you are until you crouch or jump making it even less like and enderpearl.

Podria ser muy util para explorar las nuevas cuevas y montañas aunque quizá mas usos no estarían mal, el hierro no es escaso, pero se desperdiciaría demasiado hierro para alguien que suele explorar este tipo de lugares

We have elytra, ender pearl, scaffolding. I don't see a need for this item, but it sounds cool

This is a very cool idea! I’d love if it could be “placed” in the world as well if attached to two fence posts on either end for example, as that would have so many building applications!

you should also be able to use the grappling rope to “swing” across blocks. that would be fun.

Awesome. I think it would be better if you had variants: wood, stone, gold, iron, diamond, and netherite.. Crafted with their respective pickaxes

I think we could probably just use the fishing rod and add a new enchantment, kind of like with riptide and the tridents.

For me its a 50/50, its useful in caves, but also makes the game easier.

    idk
