From what I've read, Bedrock seems to use OpenGL. Porting the iOS version would be easier than any OpenGL version, because metal. But if it indeed does use OpenGL, there isn't a lot of reason for it not to be available on Linux yet. And if metal is the biggest thing between Bedrock and MacOS, then there's not much reason for it not to be available on MacOS yet, especially seeing how there's an app store.

tl;dr - Ports of Bedrock to these platforms probably require little effort and should exist

We need Bedrock on Mac sooo badly.

Yes this would mean you wouldn't have to have expensive windows 10 to play with friends, you could just load it on any PC running Linux!

This would be great. I am missing out on some server play because I'd rather not try to wince my way through playing on my iPad.

For those of you still following this thread, I'm pretty sure bedrock is out for Mac. I would like bedrock out for Linux because Windows 10 runs slow on my laptop, and I would like to be able to play with my brothers on our family's Xbox from my laptop because we don't have enough controllers for all of us to play. We do have a few windows pc's but my dad won't let us play on the one windows 10 pc.

The only reason I know of for not combining bedrock and Java editions of Minecraft is the fact that block id's are done differently between the two editions.

What would be even better would be if Microsoft also released the Xbox app to Linux as well, but that's a different story.

The reason that Minecraft Java and Minecraft Bedrock Edition cannot 'talk to' each other at the moment is because Bedrock is written in C#, rather than Java as this runs much faster and is better suited for mobile devices than Java.

Because the two programs are written in different languages, the main engines of the two work very differently. For example:

    • In Java, the dirt block might have the id of 32, but in bedrock, it might be 64.
    • Bedrock's worlds are saved and read in a different way to Java, meaning that if a server were to broadcast a world to both Java and Bedrock, it would have to be able to send the world data off in two very different formats and be constantly converting data between the two. This would be very costly towards the server

There is still hope that the two versions will be able to cross one day, but due to the changes that would need to take place to both versions, this is not anytime soon.

Also, as mentioned in another comment, making Bedrock available for MacOS and/or Linux would take developers off of Java, the original (and in my eyes better) platform.

Of course we want Bedrock for Linux so we can join friends from other households on Windows 10 etc. Currently this is a block to the community. We're all better together!

That would be very helpful. I have a Realm I play in with my friends, and get about 10 fps. My computer runs a lot faster, but I only have Mac

It'd be awesome to have my friends that own macs join me on my realms server. A real shame they can't join at the moment.

I disagree, I prefer Java edition over bedrock edition, and you can still play together easily with a local lan server

I host a Realm mostly via xbox, but I would really appreciate the ability to log in on my Mac occasionally so I could use data packs and the de-bug screen. At the very least, add a feature to Better Together to let us turn on a Chunk Boundaries visualizer!

I'm surprised BE still isn't available for macOS.  There must be some serious technical limitation that makes porting it not worth the revenue, or there is a political issue because MSFT vs. AAPL.

Regardless, to those at Mojang/Microsoft who might be reading this thread, I'd happily pay $30 for yet another BE license to go along with the iOS, Win10, and Switch licenses I've paid for.

I can't be the only one.  Just sayin'

It would be nice to either bring bedrock engine to macOS or at least be able to cross-platform with java edition and bedrock engine. Not many people I know have macs so it is very inconvenient when bedrock engine is not supported on macOS

Please Microsoft do this or at least let us play the iOS version on Mac and the Android version on Linux easily

How has Bedrock not been implemented on Mac?

Part of the reason that Bedrock isn't avalable on mac because Mac is owned by Apple and Minecraft by Microsoft, and they are each stuck up losers who don't want to make their apps avalable on their competitors platform. Also, Android and iOS versions of Minecraft I'm pretty sure are the same (or atleast contain hardly any differences), and linux is most likely to use the same version of Bedrock that Mac will, as they contain may behind-the-scenes similarites.

I agree with adding Bedrock support to Mac and Linux, but not the part where you remove the Java edition. I would go insane.

Having all fans on one platform would make so much more sense. I understand the limitations of the platforms, but splitting your fanbase over multiple platforms seems idiotic. Microsoft at least release the bedrock version for Mac and Linux, if its a monetary thing just make them pay again for it.

Theres clearly enough demand for it on this forum for its release to be warranted.

I agree with the title, bedrock for OSX would be fantastic! you could probably port it right from the iPad considering they're running the same base OS while looking different, mac and ipad are both BSD based and would be a relatively easy port. as far as linux goes adding support for many distros would be difficult to say the least. so for now if we could just get OSX I would be happy and let the rest move from there

Having a Mac and wanting to play with friends who are using Windows machines or mobile devices is just super difficult. I have Minecraft on my iPad but I love the keyboard and mouse controls over a touch screen.

At the moment, I'm having to run Parallels for Mac which lets me install Windows 10 but the performance and intervention is just not as good.

I would love a native macOS client. Hopefully with the release of Catalina and project catalyst, I'm really hoping we start to see some development news on a macOS Bedrock client.
