Not sure why this is still missing. Having to quit every time something else requires attention is very annoying.

And when the game take a full 3 minutes to actually get me back to my title screen, playing 100% Vanilla on a PS4 it's the most frustrating thing to run to another part of the house for literally 60 seconds to come back to a death screen or if I leave for more than 5 minutes I loose everything. This and Minecraft dungeons are the only two games I can think of where pause isn't actually pausing the game

OK, I get the team does not give dates, but can we at least know whether this issue is something that has a definite place in a queue of things to be added or if it is just on some list of "Oh we'll do that sometime, but even we don't know where it comes in the list of things we want to do, so theoretically it could just be pushed back forever."?
The most recent comment was April 11, 2019. This needs more attention. We can't let this die. I remember seeing a video of java edition where someone brought up the pause menu, and it actually paused. I was stunned. The fact that I could die while changing my settings is ridiculous. If I get a phone call, and I don't have time to barricade myself up, what am I supposed to do? I see no reason why they can't implement such a basic feature of any video game.
This is why I don't take people seriously when they say Java and Bedrock are basically equal. There is literally no excuse for this.

I understood if it was only on single player but this isn't there at all, and there isn't even an option. It doesn't make the game harder, it just means you have to quit every time. There is NO reason why this shouldn't be there after so long. And the worst part is you guys have forced people to switch over from a LEGACY version which DID HAVE A PAUSE OPTION. I don't get this.
Yeah that will be extremely helpful but keep in mind the bug that was in Java when you are falling in the air and then pause the screen and quit and then re enter the world and take no damage at all and the same for explosions and creepers , we don't want cheating bugs! :)
This is really needed, sometimes important things pop up in real life and it would be nice to be able to pause the game.
I just died to this problem as well. I game froze but it was still running, so I assume pausing the game would help. But I died to drowned zombies instead and lost all of my items that I recently got from a treasure chest. It was really frustrating when that happened.
Looking through the comments here pretty much confirms my issues with the game: where's the single-player option? Why did this fundamental problem happen? The Multiplayer Game option is already off, but why that didn't work? Why is this even a problem?
One of my joy con’s malfunctioned just when I was getting attacked by a skeleton and a zombie. Instead of pausing - like EVERY OTHER game on my switch, so I could reconnect - a small pop-up appeared, telling me I need two joy-con’s to play, while in the background I could see myself getting attacked and slowly dying without being avle to do anything about it.
Punish me for being bad at the game, but DON’T punish me for bad/malfuntioning technology! Also, it would be nice to go pee without having to bring my switch with me.
I like this since I sometimes have to go away and i don’t Want to die over and over while I’m gone
OK. So coming back to the game after a little while on ps4, and seeing its alot different. Annoying thing now though is I cannot stop the game from autosaving, or save manually WHEN I WANT IT TO. This is especially annoying when something youre making goes drastically wrong, ie, blow something up! Please revert the save side of things back to old. (Feeling rather frustrated rn) 😡

Way too annoying to begin with, especially when you play it on mobile where you have limited maneuverability when a whole bunch of mobs start chasing at you at night on an offline game
Please let us pause the game. I could do it on the 360. Why can't I on switch
PLEASE! I play Java edition most the time, But LOVE being able to play on my Switch. But, I have only a few minutes to do this from time to time between meetings, or when traveling, etc. But It takes so long to load/unload that i'd like to be able to just PAUSE the game... I mean.. I'm the only one playing.
Last time I hit "pause" because I needed to do something I came back and I had been killed, a full map away from my respawn point. I lost all my hard earned (looted) stuff. So annoying makes me want to ragequit.
So annoying, I'm in single player. why pause doesn't work? especially it worked before on ps4 and now this version suddenly doesn't pause without even telling me.
I just got a switch. I was excited to try Minecraft on it.
But now I keep dying. =P
Please let us pause.
OK - I've been Java since 1.2
Son is playing with some friends on XBox so brought in Bedrock to support them - trialling on NonMultiplayer Test World and absolutely GOBSMACKED THAT THIS IS MISSING!Yes - MISSING! This is an essential component when Real Life means going and doing something else in the midst of a gaming session. In Java it's just 'there' - bring up the Menu, go do what needs doing, come back and get back to gaming with no grief.
Come on Devs - make it a 'toggle'able preference if you must but please make it :(
This is literally the most simple quality of life change that'd make the game infinitely more playable. I don't want to have to quit to main menu every time I want to get up just to use the bathroom. There's no reason it should've been this way for this long, and no reason a "priority" for developers should take multiple months to implement when it's literally just pausing the game
not having pause is insane.
Two years later...and we still can’t actually pause the game. It’s a simple feature, it shouldn’t take this long JUST to get a pause feature, this is ridiculous honestly.
So, since this issue was first reported, we have had the update aquatic and overhauling a literal entire dimension. But no pause, aside from a passive aggressive tweet two years ago about it being "a priority" to re-introduce a feature that was r e m o v e d . which is nuts, a bug that happens? sure whatever. but the most basic, simple feature that the dev team knows does not work, and simply don't care? ridiculous.
PLEASE! Especially on the Switch as it's portable. I take it places for when waiting. I don't want to have to load a level or go-to sleep every time I want to pause to do something real quick.
Still can't pause the game in single player in October 2020. Have mostly just used xb1 version instead solely because of this.
Update Aquatic, Village and Pillage, Buzzy Bees, Nether Update and soon the Caves and Cliffs update...
...Somehow despite all these game changing updates, we still do not have the ability to PAUSE in multiplayer DISABLED worlds. Despite being put under "high" priority, it's been 2 years at this point! Minecraft Java and the discontinued Legacy console edition (which you evicted the player base from) has had this feature many years prior to Bedrock edition... Somehow the version with the biggest player base has yet to have a feature that the first version already has.
Not to mention, games from the 1980's allow players to pause their game with no problem, pausing is the standard for videogames, how have the developers not even notice this for 2 YEARS?! I may consider quitting Bedrock if they somehow manage to miss out on adding such a small thing for another game changing update...
I feel that being unable to easily pause your game when you need to in single player discourages players from taking necessary breaks and makes the experience unsuited to any interruptions in their play time. Sure, you could always save and quit the game whenever you feel like it, but it makes it an unnecessary inconvenient task to get back on if your break is only short. I agree that in-game single player pausing is a very necessary quality of life/accessibility/flexibility feature that must be present in Minecraft Bedrock, and that is only standard to games of this nature. I recommend this feature work when the "Multiplayer Game" option is disabled (or LAN is disabled), to remove any confusion from the game when it comes to distinguishing between single-player and multiplayer settings. Then, I also recommend making the "Multiplayer Game" option disabled by default, to avoid confusion among players when it comes to pausing their game in single player mode.
OMG yes! please, we need the ability to pause the game as it shoulds, as we normally would do, at least for the ones that are on PC.
Just Disable friends and LAN in multiplayer section when creating the world
That affects me in another way, when I die the game should pause if single player, I hate that my items despawn when I die while afk. The weird thing is that when I afk in the nether and die the items still despawn although the chunks should be unloaded.
why is this suggestion over TWO YEARS OLD for something java has had forever
