This has now been added as a feature in the Minecraft 1.21.60.21 Beta & Preview!

If you would like to leave feedback about this feature, please head over to the thread here: Let's talk about the new pause feature! (Bedrock)

If you're on Minecraft PC, you can click on the app to minimize it.  And it pauses for you.  If you're on your mobile device, just escape the app temporarily.  Xbox One?  I do not know.

Yeah, why can’t you just click pause and pause the game. It just shows up the pause menu, it doesn’t actually pause the game even though it’s a pause button.

Anyone know when this will supposedly be implemented. I hope they also add the option to disable the player list.

ComoSgt - we don't provide updates/dates, sorry - please keep an eye on the beta/release changelogs. As for your other idea, please make a separate post for that. Thanks!

Be cool if the devs were able to let us experience the full interface of the menu by suspending our game by pressing some button on the menu. But on a basic level just let us choose in the options of any single player game to "Allow Pausing"

This was supposedly put as a priority in updates yet no one has seen it for the past couple of updates. I kinda expected it to be in 1.8. Hopefully it's in 1.9 but for now it doesn't necessarily seem like it will be implemented any time soon seeing that it's been 4 months.

Please put this in. I've lost all kinds of items due to this. And not to mention time.

Seriously I put my Switch on the home screen so I could do some dishes, then when I went back to the game I found out I'd been killed by something and all my stuff had despawned.

If I had known there was literally no way to pause other than to do a 30-second Save & Quit, then spend 30 seconds loading the game again, I wouldn't have bought this.

On the Nintendo Switch for most games the Home button will Pause the running game but for Minecraft it does not . Neither, as requested here, does the “pause” (Minus) button. If the option to Pause a single-player game is added this should also Pause the game when the Switch Home button is used to exit to the main system menu.

Really happy to see an official comment from Aubrey on this issue! OP is right, this needs to be implemented as a basic Quality of Life improvement. Having to spend minutes quitting and rejoining worlds repeatedly is annoying if you have to keep getting up to do or get something.

This NEEDS to be implemented! A few days ago, i paused so i could go get a cup of water. But when i came back, i was dead, because creepers are a thing. And what made it worse, is that i was thousands of blocks away from home! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add this! One upvote = less deaths by creeper!

WHY ISN'T THIS IMPLEMENTED YET? Seriously. Seems like a basic thing to me. Like we shouldn't even be having this conversation, let alone 5 updates after it came under review.

    This is unbelievable.

Months after lying about adding the feature and we still cannot pause a video game.

We were easily pausing games 30+ years ago.

What a massive regret buying this on Switch.  And the audacity of a developer commenting that they're prioritizing it almost 6 months ago.

In 2 months this post will be a year old, unbelievable that this still isn't a thing yet. The old Minecraft had pause, I don't even understand why it got removed in the first place. Kinda beats the whole purpose of the Switch's whole portability convenience, pick up n play and what not.

What's taking this so long? I understand game development is something that takes a lot of work but if you say you are prioritizing something that usually means it will be implemented before several other things. I don't understand how you can develop several blocks and new mechanics into the game but cannot simply update the game to allow pausing in single player.

In single player it should actually exist. But on multilayer, it can't work because what if you pause the game and the other player is mining diamonds/ fighting a ghast or wither. And if it is paused only for you, the world can still interact with you, so no pauses for multi-player, only for single-player.

Less PR and excuses please, and more implementing. Actions speak louder than words. It's very hard to trust you when you claim it's a priority then do absolutely nothing for months.

I mainly play bedrock on the Nintendo Switch so many of you may think that pausing isn't that big of an issue for me with the Switch's sleep mode, HOWEVER, I must say that whenever I do use sleep mode for this particular utilization, it logs me out of Microsoft no matter what. Even if I were to stay in contact with my Wi-Fi not leaving the room, I am still kicked for putting my Switch in sleep mode, so a dedicated pause feature for single player would be great and very very usefull.

I can't still understand why this is taking so long to implent, when is something so simple that existed in the first versions of Minecraft Java. These are the type of things that makes me avoid Bedrock edition. Simple things that the Java game already has that are not implemented in bedrock is kinda sad. Are you sure you guys are working hard with Bedrock? Looks like you're being lazy. And your pinned post of "Just saying folks" Is quite dissappointing. Are you telling me that it's been 8 months (almost 9) until today since you started to "make the pause button a priority"? Is PAUSE, is nothing complicated, that should have been implemented since the very first day of existance of Minecraft Bedrock. Stop being a lazy development team, get your pants on and implement the pause for the game. Notch did it by himself, and now that Mojang is a huge company, you are telling me that you can't make the game pause? It's offensive that you even need to think of it as an upcoming feature. The community shouldn't be asking for this. You should release this once and for all with no more delays. 8 MONTHS and still nothing.

Please because a few times I saved and quit in a random place and when I got back on it had the death screen on it and lost all my stuff and didn’t play for like a month

I agree. I can't tell you how many times I've "paused" the game while exploring or something only to come back and found out I've died and lost all my levels and stuff. I actually didn't even know you couldn't pause for the longest time and I was always wondering why I died.

The only way I see this being able to work is if you ither have no online connection or have multiplayer settings on that world turned off. The reason is due to Xbox Live, as your fiends can join at any time. Other than that, I fully agree.

8 months after this received an OFFICIAL response, still no dice. Come on! Something as basic and necessary should not be put on the back-burner. Please, for crying out loud, I just want to be able to get up to pee without having to dig myself three blocks into the ground and close myself in with a dirt block.

I hate it when I have to see some Creeper blows me up while I have to go to the bathroom. On Switch I like to look at my screenshot gallery and post images to Twitter but I have to risk it.

Could you please add the ability to pause soon? Its quite cumbersome to have to quit to main menu everytime I take a break from my Switch. I honestly wouldn't have purchased Minecraft if I had known there was no pause ability.

    750% This.

I have kids, yo. If I can't pause a game, I probably won't play it. The real problem is that this issue is unique to this version. All previous iterations of Minecraft allowed pausing.
