Maybe they could have special properties like increased durability or speed.   Also you should be able to craft stone tools with stone.

Yes just make it so hostile mobs can’t naturally spawn in peaceful but you can still summon them

I was making a haunted mansion so I like this. The crafting recipe should be wax (something that makes it) and a torch and add dyes to change color.
