I like this a lot, though perhaps it wouldn't be a "wave" in the normal sense of it. Perhaps these could be wave-like-mobs, mobs that look a lot like waves and could push you out onto shore.

Admittedly this does have some visual problems, such as how would it look if you had a bunch of waves just randomly moving? Wouldn't look right. So maybe these "Waves" (Wakes) would try to target the shore? And then despawn at the shore. Though if they weren't that common, about as common as Dolphins or Pufferfish (in a warm ocean biome), then I think there wouldn't be as many issues with it. As a bonus, this would give a player added reason to get in a boat, as they would be unaffected by the Wakes.

I don't think they should be hostile if this was to become a thing, however, it could be made so that the Wakes become aggressive during thunderstorms. During a thunderstorm they should try and drag you under the water instead of push you to the shore. Not very far under the water, just a few blocks under.

Maybe pistons could create waves to as a method of entity transport and boats wobble on them??

I like the concept but it, I feel, that it will cause a lot of lag

I reckon they would be able to add ocean currents as an alternative. The software might not be able to handle a wave engine

Like this. Dont know how theyd implement it but. It be really cool to have. Maybe have occasional giant ones that could break your boat or flip it even

I feel like these might be hard to implement, although the concept is interesting. If you like wavy-looking water, you could try the Vanilla Tweaks mod. One of the options makes the water appear to have little waves in it.

Maybe waves could be in their own biome, and you could use them to get weathered variations of things like stone!

Honestly if they could somehow perfect the application in to adding the waves, I would be all for it. but I do figure that this could make the gameplay on the ocean more choppy, and not as visually appealing. There is a lack in design when you look across the ocean on the surface. Maybe waves could fix that, but it would be risky and before it should be implemented it should be definitely trial test it or something
