    What would work a lot better for this, I think, is popping up a dialog encouraging the player to decide which to choose, and making Keep Inventory only count as a cheat in normal or hard difficulty...

    I don't think it should be unlocked by advancements, and I don't think it should be a separate slot, I just think you should be able to stick banners in your chest slot, much like Elytra.  Perhaps ...
