This is a horrid idea, since it's public servers and not partnered servers I can not see this going well at all.

Moderation of chat should be left to the server Admins since there might be insiders and jokes only the players, especially of private servers understand which would lead to a lot of false bans.

There is also the problem of multi language moderation, some words, spelled the same, might have an ordanary meaning in one language but may be harmful in another for example: gift (german) = Poison whilst in english it means present.

The basic idea is a good one, since they can be actual harm but I think that this global chat reporting should be an opt-in choice for server admins. And server admins should be able to decide for themselves if they want to allow players on their servers which might be on that global ban list, which the admins don't have control over.
Referencing back to my first conceirn, there will be a lot of cases where messages might be considered harmful or not depending on Context of whats currently going on in the game.

Overall I think the basic Idea of this is good, preventing harmful behavior but I personally think the server admins (and realms owners) should be able to dissable the global banlist on their servers and dissable their chat messages for reporting to prevent bans that result from inside jokes on private servers.

My own friendgroup has some inside Jokes that might be considered harmful but we all know whats actually meant so its not harming anyone.

Java minecraft is not the wild west. Having moderated on a number of servers, I see no reason to add this feature into the game. The only thing you are going to improve with this update is toxic players ability to further damage the wealth of online servers in this version of the game. Within hours of this update lanuching people have already modded their way out of having owners mass reported by disgruntled players, so just drop the 'feature' completly and let moderators and owners of servers do what they feel is best for their own community.

As an active server maintainer, I am seriously concerned about this change. It prevents us from taking our own actions and leaves out critical information, for example, communication that is performed off platform. On my end, the only thing this will achieve is extra tech support problems that I will have to help with.

I think you should add a gamerule for Chat reporting.
That will fix the complaining as we would finally have a way to disable this.

Please add an option to turn player reporting off for servers hosted privately. For example in the server.properites file add a new property "allowPlayerReporting"

The whole entire system should be entirely removed. Allowing human mods to determine what's right, even if they have tons of experience, will lead to mistakes. There are a ton of loopholes to this, and can be easily weaponized to target innocent players. There are some major points of concern:

    1. Issues with human moderation. Servers for the entirety of Minecraft's lifespan in Java edition have been able to moderate there own servers. There are mods and plugins that help with that, and each server should be able to moderate their own. When u now have someone else moderating, things can be taken out of context, and players can be given false bans. As a server owner, I should get to determine on what counts as a rule or not. Not the mod team

    2. Exploitation and abuse. This whole entire system is completely flawed. A mod from the mod team can give out false bans for something that they don't like. I don't trust some random "experienced" mod to deal with moderating my server. Just like u don't trust random people with your banking info or other sensitive information. This leads to a lack of control, which will cause a mass exodus of players.

If this whole system is not taken down, or is made optional or restricted to only realms, then the community that the game developed over the last decade will leave.

what if players figure out the accounts of the trained Microsoft moderators and mass report spam them, so they will only be checking their own accounts :)

There will be endless malicious ways the chat report and banning feature can destroy the playerbase. Do not add it.

Please remove chat reporting -- it's a bad idea to touch private servers that Microsoft nor Mojang own. Leave it be to the server owners and server admins.

Keep your censorship far away from my server, I am sticking to 1.18.2 from now on i guess.

PLEASE remove the chat report system, we already have admins to moderate their own server thus this is completely unnecessary.
Chat report feature is absolutely abusable, either from trolls or hackers.
Please, we java players aren't asking much. Just don't force such thing onto our community.

The moment that you try to police this, I'm sure that many people with stay on 1.18.2.
Minecraft Java Edition literally states that servers are not owned, operated , or supervised by Microsoft or Mojang. Don't act like it. We don't want this.

    Please do not implement this.
It is intrusive, unnecessary, unpopular and dangerous for minecraft as a whole. We pay for our own servers, and in the privacy of our servers me and my friends can mess around and do what we want, but now this will no longer be possible. I will certainly be spending less time playing and enjoying minecraft because of this.
It also seems pretty much the entire community agrees with me here that this is a TERRIBLE idea that will do NO good for the community and can easily be abused by people with malicious intentions.
Not to mention the sheer difficulty of this, global moderators will be unable to notice and take into account differences in context, dialects and meanings of words.
For instance there is a word that I will not mention that in America is considered up there with the f slur, but where I live is commonly used as a term to refer to your mates. Calling someone this in my server would be equivalent of saying “sup bro”, but an American moderator would see it as an egregious insult and quite likely issue a ban.
In conclusion, this is a bad idea, on behalf of myself and everyone else, please do not implement this.

I can't even begin to tell how much flaws of these chat changes would have in the future of the game. I don't understand why can't just the servers's staffs and admins decide by their own rules what counts as harmful messages? Would there be any system that would notice if someone gets falsly mass reported by any chance? Reporting players's messages will be abused a lot. Furthermore I find it really scummy that the game wouldn't just automatically cancel your realms subscription if you get banned by these reports. Also, would any of these bans that accured by chat message reports be permanent or some of them just temporarily? Because obviously some messages aren't as harmful as others. I don't even understand how could you even get permanently banned by message reports unless it's promoting cheats or something. You are telling us that you listen to community feedback but this is just an abvious lie into our faces. At least be honest to your own community. No one likes these changes.

I hope the Microsofts iron grip on Mojang Studios doesn't last very long because it is degrading the Minecraft experience for the players and the community. I do not support the chat reports on the private servers.

Any form of chat reporting is a bad idea. Some people may and probably will abuse it by creating report cheats/bots resulting in thousands of false bans. By getting banned from multiplayer we will arguably loose most of the game we payed for.

Why should servers adhere to a global ban list when they pay for the servers themselves? I understand this decision for Realms but it absolutely needs to be off for player run servers, it makes no sense.

There is no place for a chat reporting system in minecraft java edition. Server owners have had no problems policing their chat as they see fit ever since multiplayer became a thing.
