I think you should be able to drink the bucket of axolotl

I was messing around with them in one of the snapshots and here are some changes I would implement to make them more rewarding to interact with:

    - Make them fully tamable. They would follow you and teleport to you like tamed wolves but only in water (they wouldn't follow you onto land), and you could make them sit underwater. Tamed axolotls should also only attack a mob once the player hits it, since I noticed how they have a tendency to wander off during fights to kill random mobs like fish and squid. (Or make it so that tamed ones only attack hostile mobs)

    - Make it possible to breed them with the tropical fish item instead of just the bucket. The buckets are harder to obtain, especially for players who don't have a warm ocean biome nearby, and harder to carry since they can't be stacked. This makes breeding them unnecessarily difficult and time consuming.

    - Have them spawn only in the lush caves biome. I know other commenters mentioned this but I wanted to include it. This would make them rarer and more rewarding to find, and give players another incentive to search for lush caves.

They keep filling the water with glowing ink loot and also with dead fish. I can imagine dead fish being a too quick source of food in 1.17. Also I wish they would attack normal squids too. Or maybe they shouldn't spawn in such great numbers to flood the area with loot items.

I LOVE the new axolotls! One thing that I would like to suggest (I'm assuming this is the right place to add feedback for them?) Is to add more color variation to axolotls similar to Tropical Fish, or like Panda's genetic system.

For example, an Axolotl would have two statistics - One for determining its base color, and another for its accent color. The one currently known as Leucistic would be considered a Pink base color with Pink accents, the one known as Cyan right now would be a Cyan base color with Pink accents, etcetera - and breeding two of them would have a chance to develop a different color besides what they would normally inherit from their parents, as a sort of mutation. This kind of variation would apply for minecraft's typical 16 color varieties.

I know it's not very true to life, but I think it would be greatly appreciated by those who want an axolotl of their very own.

Axolotls don't give xp so more people will stop killing them

I think a black melanoid variant would be awesome to add, as they are a common color of axolotls and my personal favorite type. It would also join the wild variant as being a contrast to the brightly colored axolotls.

I am happy that you are adding axolotls because they are one of my favorite animals, but olms would have been more realistic because they live in caves IRL.

To make it easier for new players to figure out, Axolotls should also be tempted and bred with the Tropical Fish item, not just the buckets of tropical fish. This will make the Tropical Fish item useful, that item has been useless for a long time.

I think that you should make the rarity of the blue axolotl a little less rarer. You should do this because, 1. If you want one for a pet in creative, just spawning them is a real hassle.  I am using command blocks with no delay in ticks and I still can’t find one. (this also goes for people who want a collection of all the colors)

    2. I know this animal is supposed to be near extinction, but Minecraft is not a super realistic game. Pandas are incredibly near extinction, and they are everywhere!

On bedrock, catching an axolotl is extremely glitchy. First of all, when you try to catch one, it will take 10+ attempts (I know this might be intentional) and the bucket will switch between bucket of axolotl and bucket of water in every attempt. Additionally, when doing this, when you fail you might loose the water in your bucket (it goes from bucket of axolotl to empty bucket). Finally, you can duplicate water with this. To reproduce, empty a bucket of axolotl, wait for the axolotl to move a bit, then try catching the axolotl. this'll give you a plain bucket, with the original source still intact.

I love them so much, I think it would be cool if every time an axolot starts to take damage from the lack of water it may trigger a hidden value which morphs the axolotl into a salamander.

This would be cool because is something similar of what happens to real life axolots. The salamander will be less slow (on land) and could be normally found in swamps, also it would need oxigen to survive. This axolot would feed out of arthropods (bees not being an exception).

I keep seeing comments about the axolotls should only spawn in lush caves. Do you people realize that there are no lush caves at this time? For this reason, they can spawn anywhere with no light. Once the lush caves are released in the second update, the axolotls will have their spawn locations limited.

The main issue with the axolotls is the requirements for breeding. Since the axolotls require live tropical fish we need a way to get them. I suggest giving the fishermen the ability to sell buckets of tropical fish

I would like axolotl to not despawn if you have placed them in a bucket. Mine keep despawning no matter what I do. I tried naming them and was not able to. Maybe allow us to tame them. I don't do under water stuff much but I love them as pets. I would like a way to spawn tropical fish mainly because they devastate my tropical fish aquarium but I love them!

Axolotls are amazing mobs but I am wondering why the green variant of the mob has been excluded from the update. Considering the variant showed up in the caves and cliffs part 1 trailer and has been seen worked on in several areas.

2 things. It would be cool if you could have axolotls as pets. Lots of people do in the real world so it would be cool if you could the same here. Secondly, what if when you breed them there's also a chance for mutations that give the player special effects when nearby. Like an orange colored axolotl would give you minor fire resistance, and an albino one would give you minor swiftness.

I think the AI might need a bit of tweaking (on Bedrock at least)

My Axolotls seem to have a death wish and will make any, and all attempts to escape from the water and will actively just walk away.

I made a nice habitat for them and when I came back all but one had died, so I got rid of the small area of land and now they're all fine.  But they continue to try and jump out :/

New water hostile mobs are necessary to give Axolotls more use, I've only been fighting Drowned, there's no variety. Axolotls should also be bred with tropical fish, it's confusing to only use buckets of tropical fish.

If green axolotls were coming then they would glow because of the color of the green. Right?

    @ThanosCreeper
It's true that Guardians exist, which is nice, but they're only on specific rare areas. I LOVE taking my Axolotls to fight Elder Guardians, but it's sad that you can't repeat the fight as Elder Guardians don't respawn. Perhaps we can feed Guardians something to evolve them to Elder Guardians, making sponge renewable in Ocean Monuments. It's unfortunate that some cool mobs like Elders and Brutes can go extinct in worlds.

And so, most of the time I'm only fighting Drowned with my Axolotls. I agree with you that we need more hostile water mobs, Minecraft can use a bit more variety in them, in deeper areas like ocean trenches and caves. Underwater adventures can have more content, which in turn gives players more fun adventures with Axolotls!

In Minecraft 1.17.1 on Java there is a parity change. That the Blue axolotl is only possible to get by breeding two axolotls to gather.

    1. I think instead of breeding two together it should be possible to get. By name tag in a axolotl something like blue or rare. And maybe someone from Moejang make the axolotl for Minecraft?

    2. Because it dose not exist in real life and I want everyone to know that. So people don’t go looking for a blue axolotl for a pet in real life. Does something awful to turn there axolotl blue. Please don’t make the same mistake as the parent Mojean!

    3. I really think instead of being a 83% chains for a blue one be bread. You should replace the blue one with the green axolotl. Also maybe other type of axolotl that actually exist or did exist in real life.

Why do you have to remove the axolotls spawning mechanic in 1.18?!
