Perhaps you've done this before in a science class:
If you and a friend stand at a distance, and one of you bounces a basketball on a court, the other will see the ball bounce before hearing it. There will be a noticeable, maybe even jarring, delay in the sound, because sound travels slower than light in the real world.
What if the vibration mechanic was used to make some sounds do this for players? For example, a ringing bell right next to you would be audible as it rang whereas one far away from you would take a little time before you could hear it. Not all sound has to do this. In fact, it should only be a handful. Explosions including TNT and fireworks, bells, and anything else that would be understandably loud would fit for this.
There wouldn't need to be a visual particle for this feature (in fact that's probably a bad idea) like there is for normal vibrations involving skulk, and they could travel more quickly so that the real effect is properly mimicked. Nearby players would then hear some things before players further away.
Sound volume would be the same as it is now, where sources of sound from further away would still be quieter than when up close.
Could this also allow sounds to be heard from farther than normal?
