Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

I agree. In my opinion, for fairness, if "too expensive" is detected it should make it more expensive, so that the grind would be worth it. Maybe it could add, like, 10 or 20 lvls (adding to what it would already show in creative mode) for the more experienced gamers.

its not op. it allows people to actually grind out levels to max out weapons. without this theres no point to farming past a curtain level. level 60 is too much for the anvil but people can spend weeks making a farm to far, that much. so if they want to put that much effort they should be able.

It's too the point now where people can get the XP for it so I think it should be removed. Especially as new enchantments get added so we do this easier.

I agree with this post, the mechanic itself just makes no sense. I also do not understand all the comments trying to justify it, claiming it prevents players from getting "Too OP gear".

To put it simply, you just can get any tool or weapon you want and even rename it, if you do it in a weird way; you "only" need to tryhard figuring out the supposedly right way to do it and this is what I personally don't get.

I wouldn't mind the items getting really expensive as you upgrade them, say even around 60 levels or so, but please, just let me do it. I also don't mind how the mechanic works for repairing items, that's not what I'm talking about. It's just trying to get the right combination of enchantments at the right moment that looks absurd to me, I simply don't get the point.

Also, if you really want it to stay it the way it is, at least make it understandable "In game".

What's the point of grinding XP and trying all combinations at random until it works? Why not explaining how to do it with some sort of guide? Please mind I don't mean some random tutorial, but why not adding an Ancient Tome or Grimoire of some kind that either explains you how to do it legit, or simply lets you do it? It could be an easy treasure to add, expecially with the new Trial Chambers being added to the game.

The point is to let any player, even someone new to the game, find a way to explore mechanics without needing any exterior tool or resource. You would just get everything you need in the game!

i think this would be an overall good because as shown by the villager rebalances mojang wants to incentivise exploration and the only way to prevent it is to retrospectively put all the enchants on the same book then put it on your tool which just incentivises people to use villagers instead of exploring to find the books because its more likely that when you are exploring to find the enchants you are gonna find them at completely seperate moments and you are most likely not gonna find them at their max level which if you combine books it increases the cost. nobody wants to wait to put mending on their boots because they dont have soul speed, depth strider, unbreaking, protection, thorns, etc. problems like these just make the game harder to play not harder to beat or finish goals.

This is left over from the old days of Minecraft, and is the bane of my existence.

Support, the enchantment result that was hard to find was too expensive to enchant.

today i spent hours on a max enchant book for boots and then got hit with the too expensive even though it was only about 30 levels

I agree, it's such a stupid mechanic that serves zero purpose other than to annoy players. And it's really not too op since you actually have to work for all these enchants it just wastes time and sometimes even important resources

I STAND FOR THIS WHOLEHEARTEDLY! You have reached into my heart & pulled forth one of my deepest Minecraft pains! Please, Mojang! I plead with you, break these chains!

    Or-maybe-just-make-te-limit-someting-higher-like-90-levels-max-instead-of-30.

Absolutely agree! If you have to combine the books in a certain order to avoid the "too expensive", then you should have a template for it, like the crafting table. The modern Minecraft player has an XP farm and is not afraid to spend over 39xp points.

also, the tools that have great enchantments on them, you can't repair because they are too expensive! Please, I beg you to remove this feature.

That sounds game breaking, but maybe instead just increase the cap.

Hello. I wanted to add to this post that because of this, you cannot obtain a maximum level enchanted mace in survival mode. Ill use the density version as an example.

Let's take into account that you have to combine the wind burst books, making applying wind burst 3 cost 9 experience levels instead of 6 with applying the enchantment with a natural wind burst 3 book.

In Creative if you CORRECTLY apply the enchantments, starting with wind burst 3, density 5, Fire aspect 2, unbreaking 3, and mending, the level costs will be 9, 12, 19, 34 levels, then 65 levels for that last mending enchantment. You can see this in Creative.

If you manage to achieve this in survival mode, you will not be able to put mending on your mace as it becomes "too expensive!" Why can the game calculate this if you can't do it for real?(in survival)

Sixty five experience levels is absolutely achievable. And that enchanting limit is there, and for what? Wanted a max mace and had to find out the hard way.

I can't even wrap my brain around the argument for keeping this feature. It already takes so long to grind out all the XP or build what you need to get that XP to upgrade or repair. What's the point in blocking it away? Players will try and cheat it out and max out any item through any means anyway. It's also just annoying to have multiple different weapons in my opinion. I want THE sword

I stand by this idea. Here's my signature.

Also, does Mojang check these posts? Genuine question

it's just ridiculous to assume a novice player would even know to look out for this

I think they should make the "too expensive" mechanic a toggleable gamerule, if someone thinks removing it is "too op" then they can just play with it on.

Agreed the entire mechanic is dumb especially if you happen to find a really well enchanted weapon in early game and spend all of the times you are able to put said weapon into the anvil without getting that dumb message; on repairing it! And then you cannot even repair it again once it gets close to breaking!

They have done something recently and now even the "tree method" does not work anymore.

No matter what I do I can't put more than five enchantments on any of my gear and I buy max books directly from villagers, then combine in pairs until I have one book left. It is the recommended method and no longer works
