I would even be okay with a Premium Realm option wherein you could add 15 or 20 friends with a 22 or 32 chunk max distance for as much as $15 a month.

Some of my friends were going to see about this $149 Xbox Digital edition on Black Friday but now they say they'll just get a PC instead to play on my dedicated server because none of us can stand the joke of a render distance on Realms.

I've even been considering an Xbox for my living room but I'm honestly considering a much more expensive PC because I cannot play with these terrible options.

I would still be willing to pay a $15/mo fee for a premium though, many of my friends are already and only on various consoles and right now we don't play together on our main world. I would easily give that much money a month to be able to play together without a nearsighted epidemic plaguing us on the Realm....

For almost $100 US dollars a year, the current render distance is so frustrating I created an account to vote on this and to add to the pile of comments.

That should concern anyone who wants me to re-up a subscription, no matter how many marketplace items you add in for me to never buy...

Thank you for your time :)

I don't think that 4€ a month is a good price for a server with only 10 chunks render distance. Comparing this to a local server that can render up to 80 chunks it really gets laughable.

Now Realms Plus available. But still no Server Improvements. :(

Please! Give us an option to set the render- and simulating distance up to a modern value!

It's really baffling how incredibly low the Render Distance (and also the simulation distance!) on a realm is. When I'm at my home, I can barely see the house of my buddy on the other site of our (small!) lake. This needs to be adjusted, at least a little bit.

I think the idea of realms is great. Being able to share your world without having to be on it for them to be on it is great. But the render distance is absolutely frustrating, especially paying for it? Sure i understand if it was free and server loads could be a problem. But if we are paying for it.... it just doesnt make any sense. Mojang and Microsoft are loosing many subs to this simple selfish issue.

This is a HUGE issue my friends and I have with realms. We’re totally new to it, just trying it out, and immediately we realized we couldn’t go past 10. This makes exploring downright awful, it feels very enclosed.

Its 2020.. And my gaming pc can easily handle 60 chunk render distance. then I bought a realm, and it dropped to about 10 or 12. Mojang, you should allow capable computers more render distance in realms. I didn't build my pc for nothhing...

PLEASE, Please help by improving this QOL feature in REALMS. It is mind-blowing going from my realms to any other mode. Again, please!

First comment ever on here, voted for the improvement, willing to pay for it. I have spoken.

It is actually pretty ridiculous that they don't even state it anywhere about the render distance limitation when buying realms.

It is really disappointing paying a premium to host a 10 person server and have the render distance and simulation distance be so low. I have hosted a server using their bedrock server which works fantastic and you can change all the settings, however, on Xbox you cannot connect via IP address which seems ridiculous given that this is possible on IOS, which has some stingiest rules

ive been trying to increase my render distance for weeks now and couldn't figure out why it was so short. Using the elytra is impossible in the end since all I can see is blackness. I feel boxed in a very limited when my own hardware can handle much more. I'd understand if this were free to maintain the realm but I'm paying a monthly fee.

This needs to get fixed.  The End is practically useless on Realms because of the limited distance.  Flying with Elytra is essentially impossible because all you see is blackness and it's too easy to lose your bearings.  Either: a) give us this setting even if it costs more or, 2) allow console/mobile players to join my private bedrock server.

Stopped playing because of this low chunk limitation... 10 is way too low, can’t even see my tower from a few block away

The fact that Realms has been around for a few years now and that the Minecraft developers have still not listened to the community or the customers is a joke. I paid for a 10 player Realm yesterday as I have been doing every few months for the past 2 years and at the moment, I just feel like cancelling my subscription because after all this time, the Render Distance in Realms is an embarrassment. I have had people join from PC, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and mobiles and they all tell me the same thing: Their devices can load up a much bigger Render Distance than these stupid Realms can. We don't want to be told "hardware limitations" because all of our devices can do even better than your Realms are allowing us and this ridiculous flaw makes EVERYONE who takes out a Realms Subscription want to cancel it within a few days. When will this be addressed by the developers and given to the community? If it is not addressed then people will start looking to other services to host their communities.

None of my farms work unless I'm right next to them, I cant do crap because if I stand back to look at a build from a different angle, I'm not even able to see it! This is outrageous because we have to pay for realms. If they were free, I could maybe just maybe understand but even then, I expect way more.

Not sure what hardware the REALMS servers are set up on but apparently its worse than the original xbox one. I will agree that render distance often kills the game experience, especially as a redstoner it really limits what I am able to build. It makes me sad every time I see new blocks and features added with none of these performance issues being addressed.

For £6.99 per month, I expected the render distance to be better

The main problem for me here is that my friends and I reached endgame and got ourselves elytras. But they're practically unusable, and on more that one occasion I have loaded up a local world just so I could go exploring. I have no idea why there would be such a tiny limit on simulation distance, but even if I have to pay £10 a month instead of £6 for a premium subscription I would be OK. However, I still think you should be able to adjust the limit somewhat, as these distances are irritating even on a phone.

I completely agree with this post. I just purchased a 10 person realm and within 30 seconds found myself trying to increase render distance, only to find out you can't! This - in addition to AFK kicking after a short period - just feels wrong and cheap on Mojang's part.

Lack of render distance ruins the true experience of the game and has already made me look up trying to get a refund/cancel my subscription. If they want customers to keep using their service past a month I think there must be some improvements made to realms as a whole. The value for money of a realm subscription just doesn't feel great and I'm left feeling disappointed.

It's clear this has been an issue for a long time now. I just hope now the post is 'under review' some improvement may be in the works, even if it is only improving chunk loading and chunk rendering distances.

I'm sorry you all have NO idea what your actually asking for here...     I run a Java Server myself for a small gaming community and the max we can set our server is up to 11 chunks without getting rather insane server lag!!       We've tested up to 16 chunks and the game becomes unplayable due to the lag.    12 chunks is about the limit but it becomes very laggy if we have more than 5-6 players online.

The default of 10 chunks is loading 10 chunks from the player in every direction.    So each player loads up a square of 21 by 21 chucks, which comes out to 21x21 = 441 chunks per player.   So a typical 8 player server would have 3,528 chunks loaded for 8 players online at the same time.    So the server has to keep track of basically everything that is going on in the 3,528 chunks all the entities, enemies, players, generate new terrain, etc...

Now if you increase it to 11 chunk view distance, it's loading a 23x23 square for each player.   Or a total of 529 chunks per player.    Or 4,232 chunks total for 8 players on the server.

If you step that up to 16 chunk view distance, it's loading a 33x33 square for each player.   A total of 1,089 chunks per player.   For those 8 players it would be 8,712 chunks loaded on the server at the same time.

I think you can see where this is going....

I play on PC and have had my realm for years now. One day I logged in and found that I could not even see all of my build it is very frustrating. Especially when I pay for it by month it should have a disant render distance!

The small render distance in realms really sucks. It makes you feel really isolated.

I completely agree, I just bought realms on pc and I feel COMPLETELY underwhelmed by the render distance. I went to playing from 48 chunks to 10.

I am building my base on a small island and a cant see the other side of the island. I would be happy if we could have an highter render distance. I think the price of a 10 player realm is enought to provide us more quality.

I totally agree. I think this short distance to be claustrophobic.  We can't see any of the things we're building due to the small distance. There are server hosts offering much larger render distances for half the price. If this doesn't change soon, I might have to switch.

I think that paying a fee for having the ability to play on a server with friend should be at least a premium experience, while this isn’t game breaking (except for fighting the ender dragon) it isn’t acceptable to have a render distance as small as this. You can pay less for and externally hosted sever but that doesn’t reek the benefits of cross play. Please consider finding a solution to this issue!
