To make it less op make it where you can not increase the level of the potion and that has a low durability.

i like the idea for cloaks. what if the cloak could only be used with a few affects like only invisibilty, swiftness and, strength? i also like the idea of it taking the chestplate slot and giving no armour points that Blast Burner suggested.

The potion should be a lingering potion, this would make dragon's breath more useful and it would only make sense since lingering potions are designed to last

And please add to bedrock. And this could have usage like armor so it's not to OP.

Wow I legit thought of the exact same idea! Great minds think alike... A possible enchant /curse you could get on it would be a curse where every effect you get while wearing the cape is pemanently applied. E.g. if you are hit with poison, the effect is always on the cape

This should just make all potion effects last 2-3 times as long

Invisibility cloak from illusionary that hides you with armor. However not very durable, possibly worn on head.

I like both the decorative and potion use aspects of it. It should probably be crafted from a material that is difficult to obtain, since it is pretty powerful.

if it has no potion then it protects you from them.

Maybe instead of infinite potion effects, the effects would only activate under certain circumstances. For example, if a player wearing a fire resistance cloak falls into lava, the fire resistance effect would activate for fifteen seconds or so. This activation would eat through the durability of the cloak, but still be capable of saving lives. An invisibility cloak could only activate if the player stands still for a long period of time, then gives the player 30 seconds of invisibility. A speed cloak should only activate for a short burst when a player holds down the sprint key, etc.

Other effects, such as regeneration, water breathing, night vision, levitation, slow falling, etc, shouldn't be obtainable on cloaks at all, so that they don't make potions and beacons useless.

As for equipping, I would give cloaks the unique ability of being able to be worn over chest plates, this being balanced out with their somewhat limited effectiveness, difficulty of obtaining (Illusioner drops, as mentioned by brenn boyer), and relatively low durability (maybe around 64 durability?).

Personally, I think the Idea is genius, I always thought that Minecraft needed cloaks as just cosmetics (I love the cape/hood combo of cloaks) ... but the idea of soaking the cloak to give it special effects is incredibly unique! Sir, You have my vote! -Beast Wars Silverbolt

yes, but instead of the effects thing, I think they could have a hook that you can put on/off, and it will hide your name for other players (yea, is a only multiplayer feature but I don't have other ideas). Also, is the perfect time to add a back slot for the player, so the cloaks and the elytra can be put here and let the chesplate on!

Also, if we have this (https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360014755492-Add-a-Freezing-Status-Effect-Fur-Trimmed-Armor-and-a-Warming-effect-to-Torches-Fire-Edited-), that can be used to reduce the freeze.

MacchuPicchu96 it wouldn't be OP if it lost durability over time. But, I do think that the cloak should only provide you with the potion effects dependent on the length of the potion itself. Plus you aren't getting the particles so that's already a win.

However, personally I feel that this idea in general should just provide you with invisibility until the cloak itself wears out.

I like the idea of it being something you can wear to give a potion effect. I think it would be cool to make it like a gray armor that gives no armor points and the more armor you have on the more effects you can have at once.

Effects shouldn't be able to stack because then you could have regeneration 4 which would be insane.

I do like the idea of the illusioner have the drop of cloth and then using the cloth to craft the armor and then dip the armor in a cauldron filled with a potion. It gives the illusioner a purpose and adds a new purpose to cauldrons.

I think this would be good as a drop from the Illusioner. The illusioner would be the boss in woodland mansions. This way there is actually a reason to go into them. Right now the big item is the totem of undying but it is way quicker and easier to just defeat a raid.

maybe the evoker can drop one too, but it is less common than a wither skull, and even then its a very watered down version of the on the illusioner drops. I don't know, why not some variations of the cloak? the illusioner staying the most powerful though.

And to get rid of a enchantment/curse on the cloak, you put it in a cauldron and wash it with milk.

If the cloak were to bestow status effects upon the player, it would have to take up durability like crazy to be balanced.

If it were to block potion effects from splash/lingering potions, the durability could decrease at a more reasonable rate.

Either way, It should definitely take up the chestplate slot, to be balanced.

Or- the cloak would take up your ofhand slot and be worn as a "cape" of sorts

You could make wool/phantom membrane/leaf cloaks available early game, but they wouldn't have magic-like effects, whereas the illusioner drop could be a special magic cloak.

Wool cloaks slow down insomnia and make spiders neutral. they could also shorten a mob's follow range.

Phantom membrane cloaks would make phantoms, spiders, skeletons, and strays neutral, as they are would be fairly difficult to obtain.

Leaf cloaks would make you nigh invisible to mobs when sneaking, even if you're wearing other armor.

Perhaps they could be placed in the helmet slot (hood on) or the chest plate slot (hood off) so they could be worn with elytra? This would also add to the aesthetics.

Perhaps there could also be a prank version, like the Cloak of Hostility (which makes EVERY non-villager mob hostile on sight and increases everything follow range by 200 blocks)

It sounds like an RPG item...

Perhaps there could be two kinds of cloaks? There could be the standard craftable cloak, that holds an effect for a limited amount of time with limited power, and the Evoker could drop a "Magic Cloak" that holds it infinitely (Or close to infinitely). I definitely think it should have its own armor slot in this case, however, since the one that most players will get their hands on is going to be the nerfed craftable cloak. It would just make the Magic Cloak more valuable in contrast, which could easily be remedied by some balancing; i.e. tweaking enemy difficulty/drop percentage.

It would also be really cool if the craftable cloak could hold a banner design.

So haruneko and brenn gave amazing Ideas. The magic cloak from Illusioners and other cloaks seem pretty cool... And here's what I'd like to add.

Considering we only have 4 types of armor pieces, perhaps the cloaks could be given their own slot, as a nerf to the magic cloak, which I believe should have An Infinite potion duration, they can only be tainted with a single potion effect, and should only be compatible with Invisibility (which now hides armor If on a cloak), regeneration, fire resistance, resistance (via potion of the turtle master, although without slowness and being weaker, such as only giving resistance 2 If you make the potion stronger.), and slow fall.

Besides this, other cloaks can be added, like a blazing leather cloak that enables dashing In four directions, which could affect parkour maps, and By doing all this, players now have more to do more then just search for netherite, and would give players more bragging rights.

In order to use it the potion effect would either be used up over time as it is used while you get short bursts of it under certain circumstances with the timing based upon the time it takes for the potion used to run out, or the cloak would need to lose durability overtime as a potion effect is used. Splash and lingering instantaneously taking away durability while a drinkable potion slowly takes away durability over the time it is used.

Instead of the illusioner dropping the full cloak the illusioner should instead drop pieces cloth to make it slightly harder to obtain. To give it said potion effects drop it in a cauldron with said potion. Once done some of the potion in the cauldron will be used up. Naturally I think this should break down overtime as it uses the effects. That or have a an incredibly low durability. Additionally mending should not effect this one, and it would have little to no armor slots. We could either have the same effects activated so long as your wearing it or have the effects only come into play under certain events, or by the player hitting a button in which case it would take up some durability. Additionally under the invisibility effect this cloak will go slightly transparent. If you use dragon's breath then instead of applying the effect to you under certain events it will apply the effect around you in a small radius like a splash or lingering potion. To do this you would soak it in a dragon's breath cauldron. This would be helpful in a lot of defensive situations. If you place gunpowder into the cauldron with the cloak upon certain events the cloak will explode into a fire work like manner with the effect taking up a lot of its durability.

Enchantments that may work on it.

Mending will not be allowed unless the potions are used up overtime the more you use them instead of durability.

    Working enchantments:

    Unbreaking

Protection- so it will provide some protection with no armor slots

    Projectile Protection

    Blast Protection

    Fire Protection

    Thorns

Slow Falling- cloak catches the wind upon hitting space bar in midair which allows you to float down slowly

Illusion- upon being attacked illusions will be created just like with the illusioner to distract players or mobs. The number of illusions depends upon the level of enchantment. This is exclusive to the cloak.

Magic Protection- protects from specifically magical attacks such as from potions, or enchantments to increase damage or knock back. Similar to projectile protection, or blast protection.

Curses will also apply to it.

How the potion system will work:

You fill up a cauldron with potion bottles of the same variety. For water bottles it takes 3 so for potion bottles it should also take 3. You throw the cloak into the cauldron after around 10 seconds the cauldron will empty of all potion to leave behind the cloak with said effect on it. Regular potion effects use up durability as time passes with the used effect.

If you put gun powder in the cauldron with the potions the potion in the cauldron will bubble a lot to represent such. If you drop the cloak in then you will get a cloak that upon certain conditions depending on the potion or whether player hits a button to activate the potion will make a shock wave like effect sending potion particles outward in a small area effecting the mobs and players around it. Naturally this will use up durability instantaneously.

If fill a cauldron with dragon's breath and put the cloak in it the cloak will now instead do the lingering effect for whatever potion it has on it. In which under certain conditions the potion will create and outward circle around the player of lingering potion particles effecting whatever mob or player walks into it. Uses up durability instantaneously

Finally if you fill a cauldron with milk and drop it in you can remove whatever effects are on it in the first place. That or a milk soaked label which will make it so if you ever get a potion effect on you after just a few seconds the cloak will remove it using up the milk.
