I agree with your opinion but you put no evidence into it. My reasoning for removing the phantoms is because no one sleeps in multiplayer worlds. We could also have a toggle-able switch to turn off phantoms

At the very least nerf them so that they don’t deal crazy amounts of damage

    Here are my points:
Volume: The Phantom is far too loud and stresses me out whenever I’m just trying to play. Minecraft isn’t supposed to be a stressful game (as far as I know) and this is really out of place.
Time to kill: Phantoms take way too long to kill if you don’t have a really strong weapon, and if you miss because the hitbox only consists of the head. This makes it unnecessarily hard for minimum rewards.
Rewards: For defeating these somewhat difficult mobs, you get minimal experience and an item that only does two things, one of which was repairing the Elytra, which Leather used to do. This takes away from Leather’s uses, as Leather isn’t good for very many things. The other is Slow Falling Potions but most people forget those exist anyway.
    Preventing creativity:
Phantoms always come and attack you whenever you’re trying to build or adventure at night. This forces you to go to sleep, which is counterproductive and I’d much rather be building than wasting time sleeping.
Damage: the amount of damage they deal is very unbalanced for a mob that attacks in packs.
Those are the reason the Phantom is a bad gameplay mechanic.

My problems with most people who support the phantom.
    “BUt ThErE MY faVOrITE MoB”
Boo hoo. Phantoms being your favorite mob isn’t even a real argument. Go play Minecraft Dungeons, there’s a pet Phantom you can get in that game if you get it during special events.
    “HeRE’s wHY yOUr WrONG…”
Instead of providing helpful reasons for why Phantoms improve the game (spoiler alert: they don’t, stop living a lie), they tell you “JuST SlEep” or “jUSt uSE CaTS”, which doesn’t tell you why the Phantom improves the game, it just tells you things to avoid it. This doesn’t help your case at all.
“BuT YoU nEed it FoR ElYTra RePAIrs and SLoW FaLling PoTIoNS!”
First of all, Elytra could be repaired with Leather previously. Don’t like that? Well, cats can give you Phantom Membranes as a gift when you go to sleep. This encourages players to sleep anyway, so they can stockpile Phantom Membranes. Also, can’t remember what the other use was.., oh right, Slow Falling potions. Slow Falling potions are so forgettable and nobody uses them.
    “TuRN OfF DoInsomnia!”
For a Java player, there’s no issue. However, players playing on Bedrock (which is the majority of players) can’t do this without enabling cheats. This prevents you from getting achievements, and this isn’t fair to Bedrock players who just want to play the game untainted and get achievements. I know, I know, you Java players don’t care about Bedrock players because you’re “better”
    This is my counter-counterargument.

You players are just angry your mob didn't win! I didn't even vote for the phantom, but I didn't complain! The phantom is a cool enough mob.

    Just use a cat

As I have never encountered Phantoms, I cannot accurately judge all the complaints against or points for them. I do have a suggestion, though. Simply tame a cat or ocelot. These mobs scare Phantoms just like they do Creepers, and Phantoms stay even farther away than Creepers (16 blocks). Given that cats are fall-proof and have a very small hitbox, they are unlikely to die on adventures and thus make excellent Phantom repellents.

Additionally, to those who claim otherwise, Slow Falling Potions are very useful. You ever tried the Ender Dragon fight without them?

In fact, phantoms should only spawn in biomes like the pale garden and they should be neutral to players who slept in multiplayer situations where not every player can sleep.

Please remove phantoms. They don't add anything valuable to the game, they're only annoying. They're an unnecessary punishment when starting new worlds, since sheep aren't always readily available immediately when you load in. Most of my playthrough involve several days without sleep since I have no wool to make beds, and hunting for spiders for silk is a huge risk when these things divebomb you in swarms and can kill an unarmored new player in just a few hits at full health. No bed also means no spawn set, which means if you die early on you can very easily lose your entire base. These make it way too easy to die early, and there's no incentive to try killing them until late game, reducing gameplay to hiding overnight and sometimes through the day if you're unlucky enough for it to be raining, preventing phantoms from burning in the daylight. They should at least despawn during the day, regardless of weather, so that players aren't forced to sit and wait for days when the game decides to make it rain endlessly.
