Agree, because phantom is very very annoying when building something at night

I mean, we can't really remove them at this point. We have the Potion of Slow Falling and the "Two Birds One Arrow" advancement. Instead, we should move them to The End.

In my opinion, Phantoms should have a higher chance of spawning the more you sleep, and not burn in the day, instead they would flee and dispawn when they are far from the player, that way it would create a balence of having to survive some night, instead of promoting skiping nights all the time. Also, phantom sould be able to pass through blocks to make the "dig a hole in the ground and hide awaiting the day" strategy less viable without punishing newer player as they would not spawn unless you sleep for multiple days. they could also prevent the player from sleeping if they are there and killing them reduce the chance of other phantoms spawning. That way, it incentivise players to face the night instead of hiding or skiping it.

I'm not a fan of phantoms either, but at least you can turn them off, unlike other undead mobs. They really should give power to the player and allow us to turn off or on the mobs we want or don't want.

well hey, don't blame Mojang for this...blame the people because they chose it...Mojang only made it an option...

You tame a cat and let it follow you. Phantoms are afraid of cats and they will not hit you if the cat is near you.

I would actually like to see a game setting that disables Phantoms without disabling other mobs. I just don't feel that it adds anything to the game, and since I usually end up playing Skyblock and it usually takes a long while before I can get a bed built I'm almost always dealing with them unless I either switch to peaceful or hide in a closed room while I wait for them to go away. Neither of which is fine. Peaceful ends up being too easy while hiding in a hole is boring.

I get that there are mods that do this, such as "NoPhantomNoCry" but this really should be a vanilla setting considering just how much of an impact these have.

So, quite a few comments are telling people that this CAN be turned off, but the method of doing so isn't always available. In order to disable phantoms you need to have cheats enabled and then type the following:

    /gamerule doInsomnia false

This does disable phantom generation for both single player maps and servers. However, again, it requires that cheats be enabled. If the world was created without cheats it would require an external program to turn them back on.

This means that the option of disabling phantoms requires the use of cheats or mods, whereas disabling all mobs simply requires changing to peaceful mode. That just doesn't make sense to me. This should be an option within the GUI of single player or a server setting.

Other comments would commonly say that we don't have to sleep - just touch a bed - and, well, this is true. You can carry a bed around and every 3 nights just drop it somewhere, get in, then get out, and continue. Kind of tedious though, and for skyblock maps it's usually a long while because I have the ability to make a bed.

That just leaves death. The thing is though one shouldn't be required to die just to make a mob go away.

Now, others have pointed out very good alternatives to removing the phantom outright, and I'd have to agree with them. Making it spawn in some other way, or not spawning in the light, would help. They can already spawn during the day if during a thunderstorm and at light level of 7 or less, so tie them to that light level.

Bruh, you can literally just turn off phantom spawning with one of the GameRules, it's really not a big deal. And they aren't that dangerous if you're an experienced player... all you have to do is sleep and it's not even a problem (even in servers, if you sleep in a bed until the screen stops getting darker then it resets your sleep cycle count that causes them to spawn. It doesn't even have to turn back into day).

umm I think phantoms are a great mob they are the backbone of the elytra and they are easy ways to troll your friend on a private server plus creeper are the same as phantoms they are annoying

Maybe not remove, but make them not spawn in creative mode. It’s pretty unsightly to have them circling over your build.

I think the idea would make the game too easy. Plus, the world voted phantoms into the game so that would be a major disappointment to them. Also, phantoms are amazing mobs and their membranes are too useful to leave minecraft. Elytra are hard to get, and the membranes are very helpful. Sorry I dont agree with this. It would be good but also something most people would be upset about.

I don't think they should be removed, I know this is 3 years old and clearly they haven't been removed, but I do think minecraft should go for the night time event system that other survival games take advantage of and make phantoms a special mob that spawns on a special night. That way regular players don't need to constantly sleep to avoid them, and players who want the membrane will have an event where they can get them. This event can effectively disable sleep for that night, it could be called "the sleepless night" and phantoms can show up during this. The event can be somewhat rare but spawn more than just 2-3 phantoms so that players who want the items can get them. Another reason this method would be way better is that players who haven't slept in a while won't suddenly be caught off guard by phantoms. They will see an announcement that says it's a sleepless night and will know what's about to come.

Phantoms are meant to encourage sleeping and not staying up all night. We need them to repair elytra. They are needed to support the game’s structure, and I would hate to see them removed.
