I think you should Be able to place redstone on walls going up because it would make it a lot easier to use. And in real life, wires dont only go on floors, they go up walls.

The easiest way to make vertical redstone instead of redstone placed on walls is to use cromson and weeping vine-like cables. They eliminate the placement of redstone toches and blocks on top of each other and allow instant ticking of redstone power.
The different directional growth of these vine-like cables affect the direction of redstone transmitted wither downward or upward.
Easy solution to the whole Redstone dust is dust, a new item created by combining Redstone with copper, could be a wire or something more "minecrafty" but this could help the vertical redstone idea, and make more uses for copper
Yes please! And work down too; making glass staircases or a large downward staircase or a big delay downard torch curcuit is not fun at all and I think is nothing more than a limitation that does nothing good but create badness in creations (whether that be making the contraption larger, more expensive, have more delay, etc)
This is an amazing idea. Yes, you can "solve with existing mechanics", but this will add a few things:
1. Make redstone more approachable. Redstone towers going up and down are not easy for beginners to figure out, and redstone dust blocks would help with that.
2. It would have more capabilities and flexibility. A redstone dust block might be pushable by a piston or used for something else. It's up to the player to decide.
3. it would make redstone easier to hide. Whether it's for traps and secrets or just to look pretty without the wiring showing, redstone surreptitiousness is very important. the 2xNx1 is a bit bigger and can make things harder to hide. if you add redstone dust blocks, it will be smaller.
There are lots of possible solutions. The first one seems quite easy to implement but I never saw it mentioned. the others involve new blocks:
- make restone (the ore) able to behave like redstone dust (that is to say able to conduct redstone signal with an attenuation of 1 level per block, like the dust) but in all six directions (east west north south up an down)
- mix redstone dust with something that goes up or down (chains, vines, iron bars, ...) or that sticks (slime balls) to have a vertical equivalent to redstone dust
- make use of copper to invent new conductive blocks (wires, bars, ...). But I personnaly think copper could be used for another kind of signals (electric...) or to have more compact devices (integrated circuits realizing more complex functions like logical gates)
For this idea, I would like if mojang will put the gears, which is a minecraft block that existed in the old betas, it would make more sense because, the redstone is like a solid red dust, so it would not make sense that it can put on walls, but the gears can, because even in the old betas they had the feature that they can be put on walls and upside down.
And like the crying obsidian, which was an old betas block that was then put to the nether update, it would be cool in my opinion to put the gears in the future like a redstone block, the craft in my opinion could be that 1 redstone at the center with 8 iron ingots surraunding it, will give you 3 gears.
It will NOT be possible to put them in the ground because it would make the redstone useless, and it can't interact with the redstone repeaters or redstone comparators, they would work just if they are next to each others (like redstone) and they can work with a redstone signal like a redstone block, a button, a lever or even if they are in contact with active redstone on the ground, (EXAMPLE... if you have a redstone line on the ground which goes to a wall you can't extend the redstone line, but if you put gears on the wall, in front of the redstone line, it will be extended on the wall, and if you active the redtone line the signal will even go to the gears).
This block when is active will have an animation where it moves like a real gear, and if it's not active, the block will be stuck, but usefull as a decorative block...
I have an idea for this. since Redstone is dust maybe you could combine redstone with slimeballs in a crafting table and make a kind of Redstone paste allowing you to place it on the wall (I got the idea from skipthetutorial)
Please look at this one. I think the one this guy posted is better suited https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/4404810514061-Redstone-Wax-aka-Redwax-Java-
Just no.
As a redstoner myself this is just no.
There are way to many ways atm that are cooler because they each have their own thing going for them, and they also make for problem solving with redstone more engaging. The easiest one is just observers. You have the slab thing, leaves slime, scaffold, bubbles, walls going downwards, torch towers.
Tbh I prefer a lot more this, a lot of the value of doing redstone comes from figuring out how to do anything, giving just directly easy wiring is lazy and makes redstone boring.
Easily solvable with copper, if lightning rods can be used to conduct redstone signals vertically. Right now copper is decorative, for the most part - it's also super-abundant - with a Fortune III pick you can get a ridiculous amount relative to other ores. Currently copper is really overabundant and underutilized. A unique use for copper in redstone mechanics would be appreciated. Wouldn't want the entire line of copper blocks to be conductive, necessarily, perhaps lightning rod + redstone dust...?
this idea is a little easy but i have an idea if you mad a shapeless crafting recipe that was 1 slime ball 1 redstone = sticky redstone that would be a good idea because slime is hard to get and you only get 1 sticky redstone so you kinda have to want it
