If anyone is familiar with the sky factory mod then I think it should be like those auto crafters but maybe a different crafting recipe, for those who don't know the mod it basically has 1 grid for the recipe, 1 area for the materials that can be set into it, and 1 last part where the item(s) are crafted, easiest usage would potentially be for auto farms being just that much more efficient in the long run. I personally love this idea and I don't think it's too over powered because you have to have the items for the recipe, the items to be able to craft the end product, and would need a power source (potentially it can be instant or delayed crafting, instant would be balanced by eating up more fuel), and storage for it all. Another way to balance it would be to find a special crafting recipe that would balance it out whether it's intended for early or late game, and there can possibly be an achievement for crafting an auto crafter then crafting auto crafters from an auto crafter called "well aren't you a crafty one"

If you have to craft the item first the input what you want the product to be for example you put a chest in the machine and put the hopper with wood on it so it will only craft when you have all the components

If we could just craft 3x3 blocks with an input hopper and output hopper on a crafting table, I would feed my kelp farm into a smoker, into a crafting table, into the back of a furnace

Really like this, the possibilities for auto farms would be endless :D

gree that this item could be very useful even if its only use was to craft an item fed into it into its block form.  It would be very simple too, since you wouldn’t need to supply the recipe.  The recipe would be either a 2x2 or 3x3 crafting grid filled with the item fed into the system, and I suspect they could make the block smart enough to figure out which is appropriate.  Is there an item that has a filled 2x2 and a filled 3x3 crafting grid recipe?

Although I suspect the OP is actually asking for a full crafting block, it’s just that one of their main examples was farm outputs that could be crafted into blocks.

I also think it would be mostly used to compress items, so it should only do that to balance it a bit

Previous summer I crafted 65.000 Nether-bricks in survial... I had to take breaks regularly because it was an absolute pain to craft the netherrack into Nether-bricks. Most of players can't afford making a nether-brick city. This suggestion will allow most of players to build with "long-crafting" blocks. :)

An alternative way to auto craft might be to only allow it only for the 2x2 grid, with a hopper on each of the four sides filling one of the 4 slots. A top hopper could be used for fuel input, and a bottom hopper to collect items.

This might be considered more balanced, as you can only do simple recipes, not the complex ones.

However, as showcased by an ‘ilmango’ YouTube video, it is still hard to set the redstone to input items in the correct order for a full grid, so this complexity means the benefits of even 9 item auto crafting are balanced by redstone needed

This block cannot be OP, because few people are engaged in red stone, and to build a full-fledged automatic plant, you need to put a lot of effort, for example, I really don't like to make pistons and to organize their automatic production, you will have to connect a large number of funnels to this block that will take resources from different parts of the warehouse, the organization of all this is not a very simple idea, so this block should not use fuel and will not be much more complicated than a piston

Eh, If what we're doing is packing I would make it look more like a furnace. You have an input slot, and output slot, it consumes fuel and turns items into blocks as either 3x3 or 2x2 based on the type of fuel you give it. Coal / charcoal wood etc is 2x2 cause low temperatures. Blaze Rods, Magma creme etc are hotter so you get the 3x3 recipe.

I think, that if this thing will be craftable, then it should use some redstone components(most likely dispenser or item hopper).

I really liked the carpet mod for auto-crafting, where the order had to be planned out and filler used to get the shape right. Mumbo has a fun video on it: https://youtu.be/n1WCEBdAfQ4. This makes simple compression easy (i.e. iron blocks, kelp blocks, etc.), but still gives the option for more complex recipes for late game.

I think needing fuel really balances it out. Love it!

This is like a mechanical crafter from create mod, but this might can be fueled with lava maybe?

I don’t think this should be a late game block, I consider it as a mid game one. It should require some sort of rare block or ore to craft, such as iron blocks, emeralds, etc. and the crafting recipe should be logical (e.g. Ender pearls, what do Endermen and teleportation have to do with crafting?).

They should also require fuel (Same fuel as furnaces), to balance the power of the block.

    My suggestion would be this:

    C - Crafting table

    R - Redstone

    I - Iron block

    H - Hopper

    I H I

    I C I

    I R I

How much of my life is spent combining melon slices into melons? (Which, incidentally, isn't necessary for the melon's cousin, the pumpkin... for some reason.)  It doesn't have tyo craft, just combine.  PLEASE!  I beg you!

I think Mumbo Jumbo's video is a great concept of a purely vanilla way to do it.
