Chinese Paper Lanterns (1.20)

To fit with the theme of diversity and storytelling, why not add traditional Chinese lanterns to add a different and festive flavour to lighting. The basic crafting recipe would be a torch surround by 7 paper and 1 type of dye. The dye would determine what colour and shape the lantern takes. E.g. a red lantern would be round whilst a blue one might be more rectangular. Paper lanterns could be hanged from the bottom of blocks but not from the side. In addition when placed on the ground the lantern could float a certain number of blocks into the air, spinning around slowly. The player could also stand on the lantern, making for interesting parkour. In conclusion, having Chinese Paper Lanterns would give lot of opportunity for builds, parkour and storytelling.

    In minecraft alerdy have letren but we need Chinese letren in creative build it looks beautiful

    Good idea 💡 we need Indian traditional crakes. India has a very big family in Minecraft pocket edition and Java edition. We need more settings in Minecraft pocket edition

    a wonderful idea, and with the updates about bamboo and cherry blossom biome in 1.20, i think we can add more thing about this aspect, such as the bamboo forest village, or cherry blossom building material such as the lanterns. And some thing about the cherry blossom tree biome, also i hope this gets added.

    Absolutely! I think that perhaps more decorations from different cultures would be added, especially with the cherry wood you should add it a sliding door in Japanese Style. I think that this would be a cool addition to the game and would also create much more opportunities for creative builders!

    Best idea I’ve seen on this site! Totally fits with the theme of 1.20! I hope a developer sees this as I already have so many ideas as a builder for what to use them for!

    I reckon this could be cool. Having more lanterns in the game would mean your house could have a completely different vibe

    I think these lanterns should have the same width and length as a chest (not a full block). Placing a paper lantern on the ground would make it appear as a somewhat dim empty void with a colorful chines trim (so u can use them as building blocks). By using a flint and steel the lantern would give a faint glow. This glow would give a pulsating light level of 6 or 8.

    I think a hanging version of the paper lantern would be nice. That way if you want to use it for interior design it looks better than a floating block in the middle of the room. The hanging paper lantern would craft as a fully crafted paper lantern in the middle, and then a chain on top. (I think this should down grade the size of the lantern a little probably to the size of a activated conduit)

    I think a wall mounted paper lantern would be awesome too. You could craft it similar to my hanging lantern idea. Instead of a chain on top, you can have a fully crafted lantern in the middle and the a tripwire hook on the side. This would downgrade the size of the lantern to fit the wall better similar to a normal lantern. (probably to the size of a conduit)

    The floating idea needs to be adjusted better because it might be to hard to code. Thankfully I have ideas.

    By placing a lantern on the ground and lighting it will float like you said. But not 3 or 5 blocks in the air. Instead, like a conduit, they can gently float in the block they were placed in. But I do like your parkour idea so I made a compromise. When they are stepped on or jumped on they will bop down one block. When released from the weight, they will float back to there original position.

    If you want them to float in the air build up, place, and light it  with a flint and steel your lantern

    I think also a non floatable paper lantern could be nice for ground lighting. By placing a crafted paper lantern in the center of a crafting table and then a flint (or stone) any where else can grant you a non floating lantern. By placing these non floatable lanterns on the ground and then lighting them, they will give or light but wont float doe to the flints or stones.

    I came to write something similar to this, but I think if we apply this to the lantern, it will be 2 colored glass and piece of iron.And takes its color according to the glass.
