It does not have any saplings. The ones you see in Lush Caves are Azalea Bushes, and they don't grow. Maybe if the bushes grow to full trees it would make sense.

It should definitely be slower than boats on ice. Perhaps slightly faster than boats on water would make it pretty balanced.

I believe the Desert Well is well beyond repair. It just exists to be... a thing that we look at. Seriously though, good idea; I also thought that an Azalea tree would look out of place :)
