Exactly what I was thinking. It doesn't interfere with old mechanics, and it gives new reason to go to the depths.

Plus naturally generating lava falls that collide with water will be more natural in appearance.

I agree! It'll look more natural in the negative Y-levels, blending with other deepslate blocks. Deepslate is such a nice building block, it'll be a shame if it's not renewable. Renewability is especially important in limited console worlds, even more so in multiplayer.

That's a very decent idea. I bet the only reason they haven't done it yet is technical difficulties.

I think it's a great idea. It would still require players to venture down below y = 0 to obtain deepslate, but also be a great benefit for builders that needs deepslate in large quantities.

I hope this gets implemented. Perhaps it only works in deep dark or requires skulk or another material (similar to how basalt requires soul sand)

As what we have in cobbled stone, we should also make this renewbale, but instead of using the below Y=0 idea, I believe that mojang should make good use of the powder snow feature. Some ideas such as powder snow + lava, or powder snow + lava + sculk related blocks, can be possible solution for the feature. This enables the machine to be made not limited in overwold, but anywhere player wants.

    But what about super flats???
The surface has been moved down to y -60.
It make more sense to touch bedrock instead.

    Any ideas?
Magma running water stulk bedrock powdered snow packed ice? Update suppression & looking at block ID's could give us ideas. As smooth stone & cracked stone generators were a thing i heard about. We need a developer's opinion on how it might be implemented.

Cobbled deepslate is one of the few major building blocks that is still not renewable in survival. A simple way to make it renewable without adding new blocks or mechanics would be to change cobblestone generators based on height.

If a cobblestone generator creates stone below Y=0, it should generate Cobbled Deepslate instead.

This feels natural because the Overworld already transitions from stone to deepslate below Y=0. Players already associate this elevation with deepslate, so the mechanic would be easy to understand and remember.

This change would have almost no effect on early-game progression, since players can already build cobblestone generators anywhere. Instead, it would provide a long-term renewable source for survival worlds while remaining consistent with existing world generation.
