If the Block of Sludge had the opposite functionality, it would be faster to walk on but you are glued to the block so that would be bad. The original idea would be better even for speed runners

Instead what I would do is every time you click on the Crank, it acts like one redstone signal or just wherever you stand on one side or the other it goes the opposite way
