I have done both on mobile. It shouldn’t make a difference whether you are on mobile or not. For survival, just make fireworks: PG GG G=gunpowder, P=paper.

Watermelons are extremely useful. I lived off of them in a Mesa biome long enough to mine twenty-six gold blocks. Also, they are required in order to make potions of health.

I think that repeated attacks with a fishing line would work for this, even though it requires skill. I have actually yanked fish out of a river with one for quick fishing.
