This also has parity with Bedrock behavior as well... what's the incentive of changing this, Mojang? Cripple player creativity within technical Minecraft?

This mechanic is not only useful for technical builds, but also allows for ghasts to be hit by their own fireballs when using arrows, changing it would only hurt the game, currently there are no downsides to it being left alone

There is literally zero upside to this change, I personally doubt a single player has been ever negatively impacted by this. Why would Mojang randomly remove a useful piece of tech?

Mojang if you think this through, you'd see that getting rid of this would have the opposite effect of what you'd want; it would make it worse for technical players as well as casual players, cause some technical players to stay in outdated versions, and destroy a lot of complicated redstone builds which players have poured hundreds of hours into. This will also lead to a decrease in motivation to continue coming up with creative redstone contraptions, because who knows when the next feature which has been in the game for years will get removed?

The reason I say it would make things worse for casual players too is because this feature allowed players to fire an arrow towards a ghasts fireball (which some players prefer to do over punching it because you're less likely to get hit by the fireball) and actually make the fireball hit the ghast. If you remove this feature, it'd make it almost impossible to do that anymore.

As a lot of other people have said, we want this "fix" to be reverted because there's only disadvantages that come from it. Getting rid of that feature will not improve regular gameplay in any way, it will only give disadvantages.

I don’t see why this needs to change. The only situation I find myself accidentally doing this is when shooting at a ghast right as it shoots a fireball, which still kills the ghast. I imagine for casual players they haven’t experienced this bug in any meaningful way. It only harms technical players who want to make cool contraptions only possible with this in the game.

No, this bug needs to be fixed.

I understand why people want to keep this, but the extreme technical use case does not justify leaving buggy and inconsistent behavior in the game. Players who fight ghasts frequently will recognize MC-101770 as the reason ghast fireballs hit by arrows are redirected in the wrong direction.

Ideally some intentional manner of getting the player's facing direction should be added to the game to compensate for the capability loss. Perhaps add some type of dart-throwing golem that aims at the player's cursor?

Fully agree, this change should be reverted. I understand that mojang is currently fixing minecraft on the backend, but this bug is indeed one that many people enjoy and doesnt dramatically break the game. Would appreciate it if it could be left in :)

Aditionally, im sure that this feature is the one that players use to aim at ghasts when shooting the fireballs back at them with arrows, removing this would necessitate changes to how shot fireballs move. The game would now have to calculate at what angle and direction the arrow was shot at, removing this bug gives mojang extra work.

This bug allowed for a lot of very interesting and fun designs in the game, fixing it just removes depth for no gain. Please consider reverting this fix, even the person who submitted the bug report decided after-the-fact that it would be better to resolve the bug as WAI. Instead of fixing bugs with 0 votes please look into fixing bugs the community cares about and has actually voted on. Thank you

ok mojang consider this: if you really want to patch this "bug" because of arrows hitting ghast fireballs, why not just revert the change for wind charges? the only case where this would be a bug would be if a player shot a breeze which deflects the arrow anyway and i know this would be way harder then just leaving it like this but so many players want this change reverted and if you insist on the fireball issue just revert it with wind charges

The amount of time, effort and lengths cubicmetre and other members of the technical community went to finally make use of this feature just for Mojang to patch it is disgraceful. Plenty of bugs that are marked as low priority that the community actually want fixed gets ignored, just so Mojang can allocate time to patch this???

Hey Mojang, what's the point of fixing this bug? Can you name one player who has been negatively affected by this bug?

There are now tens of thousands of technical Minecraft players who have been negatively impacted by this bug being removed. It should be WAI.

Being able to hit a ghast fireball with and arrow to bounce the fireball back at the Ghast is an iconic part of everyone's early nether experience.

Fixing this bug will remove that sense of joy and accomplishment that really helps bring new players into the game.

I still remember the first time I used an arrow to kill a ghast in this way and that was nearly a decade ago.

Please reconsider this to be a feature of the game and not a bug.

I think there is no valid reason to remove it. I like that Mojang has been going around and fixing random old bugs, but as the splash text says "It's a feature, not a bug!"

I get that this was probably to fix issues with the sulfur cube (being able to knock it in any direction), but this (projectile redirection based on player angle) was REALLLLLYYY cool for, well, literally everyone. it enabled so many types of wireless redstone to be not too janky, and that was really cool. you COULD just make this happen between projectiles and fireballs and similar but NOT new mobs (sulfur cube), and i think we would be happy about that

I was literally just uploading a fix for my aimable arrow auto-cannon that had been broken almost a year ago by changes in game mechanics in 1.21.11. I have had so many contraptions broken by so many changes throughout the 1.21.X content drops and to have this change implemented now feels like a slap in the face to everyone experimenting with wind charge tech since its implementation in the Tricky Trials update. Even the person who reported MC-101770 over ten years ago admitted that the behaviour of using the players view direction should be WAI and it was still targetted for a fix.

I want to give Mojang and its developers the benefit of the doubt when it comes to managing the game and its complex web of mechanics. I try to be respectful towards developers and understanding how their workflows impact the implementation of game mechanics. I try to be a supporter of the view that the developers know what they are doing and have a process for fixing issues. I want to be sympathetic to the developers and the immense pressures that can come with the responsibilities of maintaining this game. Which why I am so offended by this one change that impacts my work so deeply.

The work that we do makes content that in turn makes Minecraft more interesting and intices more people to play the game. In the return the developers could give us the least bit of respect by not sabotaging the game mechanics we rely on to make our content work.

why dont we have a block dedicated to player detection by now?

A device that can detect the direction of a player's gaze is necessary.

honestly, this is an extremely useful mechanic for a lot of technical builds.

it barely affects the normal gameplay, but when it does it would usually be beneficial as well, as the player can easier predict where the projectile would be redirected.

Maybe they changed it because it was going to interfere with the End update. (°ロ°)

Even if that was the real reason though it should be reverted. It's better to design around a feature we've had and created machines around then to try and remove it completely.

First attribute swapping and now this. Mojang theres no point in removing these old not game breaking bugs. They are used for the benefit of players in a way that feels fun and balanced. I think its really cool to see redstone create things that feel like modded features and theres no reason to do this. Unless you plan to add some sort of direction detector block but thats not as fun nor as interesting. Please stop patching old bugs.

this "bug" has to much potential to remove it like that. i feel that the best use ive seen was mattbatwings building the chess machine.

I would say that while a bug, this should stay in the game. It didn't notably cause problems for players in-game, and was used for some very interesting advanced redstone that will no longer be possible without it. Players who made the investment of building things that make use of this shouldn't have their stuff broken after it lasted all these years.

Minecraft redstone weapons revolutionized in various ways because of this bug. Users of it will just want to stay in older versions and keep playing the outdated game (I wont leave 1.21.11 until attribute swapping, this bug is confirmed to be reverted with no change).

It's been amazing seeing what the technical community has come up with this harmless bug. Why are we stripping this away just because it wasn't intended originally? Isn't that the point of a sandbox game: allowing creativity beyond what was originally designed?
