This also has parity with Bedrock behavior as well... what's the incentive of changing this, Mojang? Cripple player creativity within technical Minecraft?

Why remove a "bug" that isn’t gamebreaking and everybody loves

This mechanic is not only useful for technical builds, but also allows for ghasts to be hit by their own fireballs when using arrows, changing it would only hurt the game, currently there are no downsides to it being left alone

There is literally zero upside to this change, I personally doubt a single player has been ever negatively impacted by this. Why would Mojang randomly remove a useful piece of tech?

Mojang if you think this through, you'd see that getting rid of this would have the opposite effect of what you'd want; it would make it worse for technical players as well as casual players, cause some technical players to stay in outdated versions, and destroy a lot of complicated redstone builds which players have poured hundreds of hours into. This will also lead to a decrease in motivation to continue coming up with creative redstone contraptions, because who knows when the next feature which has been in the game for years will get removed?

The reason I say it would make things worse for casual players too is because this feature allowed players to fire an arrow towards a ghasts fireball (which some players prefer to do over punching it because you're less likely to get hit by the fireball) and actually make the fireball hit the ghast. If you remove this feature, it'd make it almost impossible to do that anymore.

As a lot of other people have said, we want this "fix" to be reverted because there's only disadvantages that come from it. Getting rid of that feature will not improve regular gameplay in any way, it will only give disadvantages.

I don’t see why this needs to change. The only situation I find myself accidentally doing this is when shooting at a ghast right as it shoots a fireball, which still kills the ghast. I imagine for casual players they haven’t experienced this bug in any meaningful way. It only harms technical players who want to make cool contraptions only possible with this in the game.

No, this bug needs to be fixed.

I understand why people want to keep this, but the extreme technical use case does not justify leaving buggy and inconsistent behavior in the game. Players who fight ghasts frequently will recognize MC-101770 as the reason ghast fireballs hit by arrows are redirected in the wrong direction.

Ideally some intentional manner of getting the player's facing direction should be added to the game to compensate for the capability loss. Perhaps add some type of dart-throwing golem that aims at the player's cursor?

Fully agree, this change should be reverted. I understand that mojang is currently fixing minecraft on the backend, but this bug is indeed one that many people enjoy and doesnt dramatically break the game. Would appreciate it if it could be left in :)

Aditionally, im sure that this feature is the one that players use to aim at ghasts when shooting the fireballs back at them with arrows, removing this would necessitate changes to how shot fireballs move. The game would now have to calculate at what angle and direction the arrow was shot at, removing this bug gives mojang extra work.

This bug allowed for a lot of very interesting and fun designs in the game, fixing it just removes depth for no gain. Please consider reverting this fix, even the person who submitted the bug report decided after-the-fact that it would be better to resolve the bug as WAI. Instead of fixing bugs with 0 votes please look into fixing bugs the community cares about and has actually voted on. Thank you
