Realizing that pointed dripstone could be used to make more of a potion was one of those moments when you had to say "It's not a bug, it's a feature".

It made sense, within the oddlogic of Minecraft. It also made for good gameplay. Would I spend the time, emeralds and iron to get all the stuff set up to do this? Under certain circumstances, it was a good investment, such as parts of the game where you could not obtain blaze powder, or in intentionally rescource-depleted worlds (such as skyblock).

It was not overpowered either: For one thing, you needed to get your hands on a specific kind of potion beforehand, which is hard to do. Apart from the energy potion from witches and the extremely rare potion of invisibility from the wandering trader, there was not a whole lot of potions you could make with it. Also, it demanded some attention from the player to work.

A possible use of the potions obtained this way would be to have more energy potions in preparation to going to the Nether first time, which would be usable but not overpowered. In later game stages, brewing stands would replace the need for the dripstone method.

Therefore, the "dripstone potion duplicator" was usable, interesting, and not overpowered. It should be brought back.

Definitely was a fun creative feature. Please bring it back. It should be upto the people paying for the realms. Pro players are all about speed runs not building potion farms. Come on Mojang.

This definitely should be kept in the game. It gives pointed Dripstone a usage. It's not overpowered as you need to obtain the potions first (which is difficult in itself). I thought this was an amazing feature didn't realise it was a bug and now it has been removed has rendered Dripstone pointless in my opinion.

It should be kept in the game with a small percentage that they will fill the potion in the cauldron up to the next level.

It's good to see this has quite a few more votes than almost all other posts, at least in this category.

This was such a cool feature. If they don't want it OP. Then make it so that after a while a new potion needs to be put in or it gets deluded, like how it works with dye.

This was a fun feature. Should have kept it. I feel like potions and potion arrows are underutilized and this feature made potions a little more available and potion arrows a lot easier to make. It wasn’t to op either because you still needed to use the brewing stand if you wanted to make splash or lingering potions and potions don’t stack you you had a limited space to put any extra potion bottles

Ugh, I thought this was still in the game.  Had a whole potion farm setup and was about to automate it when I realized they weren't filling anymore. Please bring back so I can make a potion dispensing machine.

    Mojang's logic on:

TNT Dupers, allowing for infinite farming of most blocks: ah its fine

Potion farms: remove them. as fast as possible.

Why? I think lava was awesome (no more endlessly having to spend time harvesting wood or coal) and at least makes the game less tedious. After a point, you focus more on building and less on the mundane gathering. The potion farm was just one more of the crazy farms to build. Please bring back this feature.

So their excuse was it was too OP? How about villagers trading 1 book for 1 emerald, and also selling a bookcase for 1 emerald? Literally tripling your emeralds. TNT dupers are okay too, right? Kelp XP farms? There's a ton of "broken" "OP" things in this game that you can choose to use or choose not too, this should be no different. Bring it back!

I had never done anything with potions aside from learning how to make them, making a few, and shoving them in a chest and being too afraid of wasting them to ever use them.

When I found out about the dripstone farms, I immediately set out to try and make every potion in the game, I made a whole farm and build around it. Then I started actually using them and strategizing around them.

Now that they're gone, I feel my enthusiasm for potions gone too.

I can understand if Mojang thinks they're overpowered. Honestly, I agree, but it was the difference between me being excited to make and use potions vs not engaging with that mechanic at all, so I hope it comes back.

It sure was a good feature, and it certainly wasn't overpowered. You would have to collect dripstone first and then also get the right potion. Also it would be logical if dripstone can fill water and lava cauldrons that it can also fill potion cauldrons. It was a very nice and helpful feature to have, especially in peaceful mode, where you can't brew potions. My brother and I used to multiply potions this way, because we couldn't get blaze powder in peaceful. I think java players would appreciate this too, especially on SMPs because they could make great afk farms this way.

As an avid Minecraft player I used positions but not often. They weren’t really worth taking the time to get all the supplies and spend the time making them over and over. I never used them on arrows at all but when the first half of the cliffs and caves update came out and you could make the drop stone potion farm I started using potions a lot more and actually started using them on my arrows also. I believe this is one of the most useful tools with the new update. Aside from making lava farms with it the drop stone in my option is pointless without this feature. I would please ask that you bring that back as I don’t believe it was OP as most people have mentioned you still had to work hard to build this farm by simply just getting all the potions which takes a good amount of time if you are just starting off. I would love to have this feature added back to the game making the gaming experience more fun!

Should most definitely be a vanilla thing, it brings inspiration when I just found out about this I made a whole western saloon around it. It was really cool and it’s definitely a mid-late game thing to get all the cauldrons, potions, and dripstone to make, we can have all these renewable sources and more to come with renewable clay? However we can’t have potions? Please bring this feature back it’s a lovely and welcome feature to the game that makes sense and didn’t actually produce that much because, it took so long for the dripstone to renew the potion. In fact I thought this was a vanilla feature due to a unique sound affect when you tried putting the potion in after the dripstone was placed, it would evaporate the potion so players would have to put the dripstone in after the potion so there potion wouldn’t evaporate.

This is something that needs to happen, who the hell even said it was something that should be removed hell we have a wither with 600 hp compared to Java having only 300 so if the Java players said anything about it they can go ahead and fight 2 withers at once then, but in the end why the hell was it removed, the function still exists for water and lava so why not potions

As with many players here, investing time to create potions and use them takes a lot of time and effort and therefore never bothered. Allowing to refill potion filled cauldrons meant the game becomes more fun. I started ti experiment more and have something else to do. I don't think it is too OP because most people who will build them are mid game and this is where new features are useful to keep the game more entertaining.

Agree with the posts here, I fell in love with potions when dripstone was released. Went to build a farm today only to realise it doesn't work. Tbh I think I'm going to end my realms sub, they are making the game too stale, all of the unique features of the game are being removed.

It’s February 2022 and that potion farming method is still sorely missed. To me, having to manually brew every sip of potion makes potions uninteresting for most of my normal gameplay, with extremely rare exceptions like with the ocean monument or the Wither. And even then, I would probably prefer to use alternatives

Didn't realize this was apparently a bug, but I loved being able to use it when it was working. I don't see how it's OP, I personally think it should be added back as a feature. Dripstone, at this point, only has a use for lava and water. Water you can get infinitely with a 2x2 thing of water, so it's legit only useful for getting more lava. I never used potions too much before, so I found it fun getting to play with the different effects this way in survival.

I finally set up my dripstone potion farm only to realize this feature was removed. This feels wrong and most players will agree that this was a fun feature for survival players. Please bring it back Mojang. :(

Why in the world would an exceptionally useful feature such as this be nerfed when this game is supposed to be all about defining your own gameplay?

Rather than removing it entirely, why not put it behind a setting for servers that want to keep potions on the rare side?

    Bump ...

I just built a potion drip farm, then found out it's not working ... =/

Agree with above. It gives a use to pointed drip stone. Getting "potions for free" ... You have to find and mine the drip stone and ALSO build the cauldron ... and then you have to MANUALLY harvest it from the cauldron, and ONLY two layers ... It's a lot of effort ... a comparable amount of time to actually just getting the components ... If you want to brew a lot of potions fast, mass brewing is still the best way ...

We farm everything else ... why not potions? Again, it's labor intensive to harvest on a mass scale, so, the time you put in is a lot ... ALSO, you have to GO EXPLORING for drip stone caves ... which just adds to the "to do list" when building a base in a new world ... and most players don't even dabble in potions, since they take up a lot of inventory ... it's just a nice thing to have—another thing to farm and manage—for the players that actually care ... and brewing manually is faster if you need a lot of potions NOW ...

Turtle Master is the hardest component to farm, but how often are people using that?

Lastly, if you think it's overpowered, then LOWER THE CAULDRON FILL RATE FOR POTIONS to the point where it is not ... THAT seems like the best compromise. If it was a bug that turned into a cool feature, why get rid of the cool feature entirely? Just nerf it. THAT seems like the best course of action ...

Upvoted this idea. I would definitely like to see the feature come back. Been watching my cauldron filled with water breathing for a lot of time now, and just found out this is gone.
