    I saw a magic scroll data pack that ides this idea of Casting Magic, I agree if implemented it should be something that draws down on the XP to regulate it and make players consider use. Certainly a little easier than adding a mana system. Though most Casting Magic would probably be played somewhere in between bing buffs like potions or ranged effects like bows and tridents already provide, making it a bit tricky in my opinion, I would love to see a magic expansion in Minecraft. Typically a more magical fantasy setting ends up with a less technological push. 

    Some potential book/scroll/rune ideas though, some pulled from other mods/data packs

    Fire Dart - half heart impact with the target set aflame

    Water Dart- puts out fires and acts like a rapidly dropped bucket (water moving out 8 spaces as it would), ergo given it has range and can push entities as well it's pretty powerful without any damage effects.

    Chilling Dart - adds slowness and for the target sees the cold effect of powder snow, 1/2 heart for impact

    Wind Knock - Knocks back target (no damage)

    Idea Update: we can also find many magical artifacts in chests or during excavation in archaeological sites. This include:

    Catalyts: similar to wands, we can use them to perform an attack

    Amulets: items that if held, give special bonuses when using magic, such us increasing the effectiveness or reducing the costs

    Totems: similar to catalysts but more rare and powerful 

    Book and Grimoires: have special spells written in them

    This idea seems a bit too OP

    Maybe you have to search for staffs which have different elemental stones set in them (i.e. Fire, water, earth, wind) would make it more balanced

    Magic protection is a good idea though

    Have you been able to build wands with lesser elemental stones and be able to find the greater stones in the end therefore increaseing game length and change if you add mobs (and why are we making the dragons extinct)
