Hey Mojang, I'm a huge fan of Minecraft and what you have done to the game but Minecraft’s rivers currently lack unique wildlife compared to other biomes. I’d like to suggest ducks as a new passive mob that expands river ecosystems while fitting naturally into existing mechanics.
Ducks would spawn in rivers and behave as passive mobs unless attacked, at which point they become defensive and would use their beaks to do the same amount as wolves. They could be tamed using a new item: breadstick seeds, creating light progression without overpowering early survival. Breadstick seeds can be crafted into 3 breadsticks, giving the game a new mob, block and food. The seeds can be obtained by breaking hay blocks and 1 breadstick would do 1.5 hunger bars. A rare grey variant would add visual variety (compared to the normal yellow ones), similar to other mob variants already in the game.
To support natural behaviour, ducks would lay eggs in a new nest block.
Duck eggs would require Silk Touch to be collected safely, similar to turtle eggs.
Eggs could also be broken to drop as items, or transferred using hoppers, allowing for limited automation while maintaining balance.
Nest blocks themselves would be easy to mine, acting as a simple environmental block rather than a progression-gated one.
Nest blocks would be crafted using:
2 sticks on the middle row sides
1 wheat in the bottom centre slot it will look like a cosy unlit campfire.
